13B Engine/Trans mount issue

Is there a common failure among engine and or transmission mounts? My car is kind of jerky when changing gears (kind of like I'm being shaked back and forth). I also notice under hard acceleration that the **** kind of moves up and down a little bit. Any suggestions?

Well, the old mounts are rubber based,so it will flex a bit.
Guys opt for solid mounts to replace the old 25 year old stuff.
Though there is nothing wrong with a rubber replacement mount.
Depending again on if you plan to really go Hog wild in the HP Department too.

Pretty common for passenger side motor mounts and transmission saddle mounts on FC's to go bad and break down.

I think I will stick with the rubber ones for now. I'm not going to be pushing much power through (yet). Thanks!

To clarify: It is not unusual for them to fail with age

To understand why the passenger side mounts fail first, we should look at how the engine turns over. Looking at the front of the engine, it rotates clockwise. This means that the passenger side is being constantly stretched while the driver's side mount is being compressed. This reasoning is above and beyond the primary age-related failure.

Also, I wouldn't necessarily recommend solid engine mounts because there is no 'give' to them. Banzai Racing offers some nice Polyurethane mounts that are highly recommended for stock to streetable-modified cars.
