Just let me know when.
Since this post is for people in Va.....
I got a question about my 83 gsl.- it has been sitting for about 5 years and only started a couple of times by the way. I did the pully pull test to see if it was locked... it moved, but every so many pulls it sounded like metal was rubbing metal : more like thin aluminum bend back and forth: ~weird~ so the question is, should i just plan on rebuilding the engine or try all the seafoam, mmo, etc. to get it running again? the car needs a lot of work everywhere else...like suspension, brakes, almost everything in the engine bay is probaly going to get replaced, interitor needs to be restored, needs a couple of rust spots taken care of, wheels, tires, paint the list can go on....you get the drifft, thanks for all your input and advice it will mean a lot!!!!!!

Having tried to rebuild a 12A recently, I would pull the motor and rebuild. Hopefully, both rotor housings will be in good shape and can be reused. I would not risk a apex seal breaking when you try to start it and tearing up a housing. How many miles are on the motor?
If you end up looking for housings, I found 1 guy that has a handful of them that are brand new. Expect to pay in the $850 range, plus shipping.......each!

yes, I do agree with you about risking the apex breaking while trying to start it, I don't want to have to by new housing.... that would suck. the car has about 163,000 mi on it. when I did drive it as a daily driver about 5 years ago, the car ran like a top! no problems with it at all. so I'm thinking everything should be good inside. ~hopefully~ is the 12 a easy to rebuild? I have never done a rebuild or any motor, and I don't really want to pay the amount of money for someone else to do it cause it would be way too much, especallily cause there is only like 1-2 shops around that would even look at it, let alone do a rebuild. I don't know anything about previous owners and there relationship with the car, so don't know if any major service was done to it or not. thanks for the info, looking forward to hearing from you.
well, I kinda of thought it would be fun to do myself, you know rebuild it and put it all back together. I'll just have to take my time with and and make sure i don't **** it up.
so do you defentily think i should take the motor out and rebuild it from the noises i described? is "atkins" the best deal on a rebuild kit? what do you recommond? I just ordered the workshop manual yesterday, so I can have better diagrams than the good but low detailed haynes book. here is a link to a couple of pics of it- https://www.rx7club.com/members/paulymc27-143943-albums/ - just a few will have better ones when I get back to my house. thanks for the info.

The other option is to do a compression test to determine engine health. Those 12A's are **** brickhouses. They don't blow coolant seals and they don't break compression seals as often. I'd put money on all you needing is a carb cleaning, fresh gas, and a major tune up. But first, compression test to see what you're getting into. Just remember, it's been sitting 5 yrs so there won't be an even film of oil in there to aid compression #'s. Don't add any oil thru the plug holes either cuz that will give you false results.

Do the legit test with a gauge.
The aluminum noise is like a thin piece of aluminum and holding it tight and then press it in and out, so it's like that, but muffled ......weird ....When I just grab the Eccentric Shaft pully belt and pulled on it to see if it would turn... and I don't know if the noised were coming from the rotor housing or if it was something else tring to move, like the shaft or......I don't know. but it sounded like it was coming from the motor. when I did use it as a daily driver five years ago, it ran like a top.. very quick and kept it up with high rpm's. so never any problems with it.
so.....I'm going to be putting my new axle in my 83 soon. the axle is from a 82 with 112,000 miles on it..... my question is do i need to tear is apart to make sure all the gears are fine, or just change the fluid out and slap it in? Thanks for the info.
Man, you're all over the place. haha.
well, I've always learned better from other people and experince than by a book. so I was just looking to get advice from other people that has experinece the same or as close to what I'm getting ready to do. I do like the help you all give it really does mean a lot. Thanks for the info. and about the noise I was hearing.....I was doing a seafoam today and I put my ear to the carb and the noise sounded like it was coming from there or close by, just can't put my hand on it. it could be from old alternator or not smooth pulleys or anyting. have no clue
While I did the seafoam and turing the engine with my hand, I saw some smoke...or clounds..or fumes of something coming back out of the carb. Is that bad or good or normal?

Hey out there...I'm looking for some friendly advice...I've got an 88 10th anniversary turbo...all original...I replaced the motor w/ a Mazda reman a while back...some years but only 10k miles on it and i blew the rear apex seals...I have the motor out of the car...thought about tearing it down myself but second guessing that thought. I'm looking for someone in and around the central VA area, a shop, a person, whatever, that can help. I am not looking for a hand out. I am in Midlothian and can bring the engine to you...please help if you can...just looking for some advice...I have owned this car since 91 and desperately want to get her back on the road...thanks...
I assume you've looked in the NE for sale section up above
so is there a particular set/brand you are loooking for?
