Seriously this event will be just like any other 4-heat autocross... except it just happens to offer twice as many runs, on a very twisty, very fun little racetrack. ;-)

Definitely Mitchum's or Delta V, either place is very familiar with pre-tech... Mitchum is NASA's Mid Atlantic chief of Tech among other things, and Jeff at Delta V is a former tech scrutineer for SCCA Pro Rally among other things...

http://www.nasaracing.net/pretech.htm

Basically a quick once-over on a lift at either place is never a bad idea before any kind of track event ;-)

went to the GF's house at lunchtime, I'm all nice pre-regged now - looks like there'll be a few VMSC folks going too

Oh man! I'm glad I saw this. So is the autocross the full patriot course? Which way will it be run? It looked like it was going both ways in the video. I ran this portion last June doing the Grand East track. The patriot course section was my favorite part. I might sign up for this.

There is a full course HPDE and roadracing both days. Saturday there is also an autocross on the Patriot Course (clockwise.) We'll start the timer at pit-out so the first/slowest turn is that downhill right hander off the north course divider road, and put the finish timer up the hill so you can slow way down before pit-in.

Only 27 spots left... please join us! ;-)

Thanks,

Jon

Man that sounds like fun. I've only done the patriot course counter clockwise. Seems like going clockwise is a good idea to keep speeds down, too. Decisions, decisions. Full course or patriot...

Btw are you still running the e30? How's it treating you? I'm a friend of Jeff@Delta V's. I have a blue mazdaspeed protege (selling soon though).

Hahaha the Full course would be more fun and more seat time that weekend, but it also costs 6 times as much to enter. ;-)

I stuffed my E30 into a wall at Summit-Shenandoah in June and totalled it. Pics are here: http://www.get-fast.net/bmw/driver (doesn't look too bad on the outside but that thing was seriously tweaked underneath.)

Since then I've owned two WRX's (both gone now) and am currently looking for a good E36 M3 (preferrably a 4-door.) I'll have something before the VIR event.

Jeff's a good man, I wouldn't buy anything without having him check it out.

Anyway, I hope you'll join us at VIR, one way or another ;-)

Ouch, I saw the car at Jeff's but I didn't realize it was anywhere near totalled. Where'd you go off at Shenandoah?

The full course is fun, but I've done that a fair amount relative to the times I've been on the patriot course (1), and I've never been on it going clockwise. I need to figure out which one my dad wants to do.

Oh yeah, that car was seriously f--ked underneath. The LF suspension was all bent, the LF wheel was pushed so far back into the firewall that it moved the pedal assembly, three of four motor/trans mounts (hard urethane ones, no less) sheared off, the rear subframe was tweaked almost an inch, etc. Basically the car twisted enough that the tub wasn't worth saving. Luckily I made a few bucks back parting some stuff out. Jeff handled most of the disassembly and disposed of the carcass for me in August. ;-)

It was the right-hander onto the straight that goes under the bridge and then down into the Carousel turn on Shenandoah. Fourth lap of the first instructor session on Saturday I came in sliding, tried to turn, and the car went straight. I managed to get it turned enough to broadside the wall instead of head-on. I believe it was a broken tie rod (although they were nearly new OEM parts and the car had passed TWO pre-techs in the weeks before the event.) But I was done by 8:45am. Not driving the rest of the weekend was the worst part!

Anyway- you'll have fun with us on Patriot, please be there ;-)

Eek I know what turn you're talking about. I did Shenandoah with Mazdadrivers in September.

I'm kind of in car limbo as well, but if I can procure a vehicle I'll be there.

Well I did it, I had the rustback exhaust system replaced. I had a local muffler shop (recommended by my regular mechanic) install a single 2.5 inch exhaust setup. It seems to have the same free flow as the non-existent exaust piping and is much quieter but does not sound stock either. So no more constant backfiring and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Final cost for parts, labor, and tax - $246.00 - seems fair to me.

I have a body shell from a NA 86 available. I have stripped it of much stuff, but it is a straight, rust free unibody for anyone looking to build a race car or something. It has aluminum hood, some other stuff. If you have a wrecked S4 or have the stuff to build a race car, this would be a good platform. I can even arrange delivery as far as Richmond. I live in Suffolk, but have a trailer and make the occasional trip to Richmond. Here is the link of what I have available from it:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showthread.php?t=492855

I also have a friend who has a 90 that he is also parting out, so if anyone is interested in anything for a NA S4 or S5, let me know..

FWIW, both cars are missing most of the suspension, but if you need something....

The S4 has an aluminum hood. It is white and in perfect condition. The paint is a little faded, but there are no dings or anything. Make me an offer if you are interested. Several people have expressed interest, but nobody has bought the hood.

man, ive missed alot of stuff here. ive been trying to stop in a catch up every now and then, but its been awhile.

mainly what brings me here is that i was talking to the guy at my work that bought my fb, and he wants to sell it ALREADY. kinda sucks, but i told him id ask around since i want it to go to a good home. if i had the space here at my house, id buy it back, but i dont think that would go over too well.

he wants $400 for it. same condition as my post when i had it for sale in here a couple months back. i think $400 is a hell of a deal. ****, its got WAY more than that in suspension. he dyed the interior carpets black, and made a new rear carpet for the rear. it looks pretty good. if anyone is interested, e-mail me at straight_into_concrete@hotmail.com.

someone give her a good home.

there WAS a thread on the VMSC board awhile back about shops around town that would align to your specs, not factory. check it out - i remember a few places being mentioned.

Unfortunately the S4 hood won't fit on an S5 properly, so no not interested then.

Are you saying I was supposed to call you Sunday??!

It is fully inserted. Was not that bad, I was able to do just about everything except push the motor under the car by myself.

I guess that talent comes from handling such a large pushrod on a regular basis.
