They have a reputation of having the most inconsistently prepared karts. Some will be fast and others will be dogs. They claim that all of the karts are prepared to be within tenths of a second of one another. BS! If you feel like you got a dud kart, complain. You're paying good money at a facility that should care. Unless they have gone through some sort of metamorphosis, I'd guess that things haven't changed. And believe me, their opinion of the arrive and drive guys/gals is that they think that you don't know any better.
:smiley_12 :smiley_12 :smiley_12 :smiley_12 :smiley_12 :smiley_12

They'd probably get you another kart (eventually) but they sure as hell wouldn't restart the race on a Sunday. I went last weekend at 1pm... got the next races available for 2:10 and 2:20.... they were over an hour late (didn't bother to tell us that though...) and in that hour while we were watching, three people replaced their karts. The race kept going, and those people lost a significant portion of the race. They were not refunded or given anything.

Then they lost most of the time slips and they lectured all of us (this low-20-something kid) about how it was a privilege to get the time sheets, not a right... and they weren't guaranteed.

They throw out penalties inconsistantly – often flagging a group of people just for the heck of it. In the two races, one of my friends had a broken kart both times (and replaced it once, missing half the race) and my other friend had a broken kart on one race – the frame was coming apart in the front left and hitting the ground and the wheel on two different karts.

I’m going today to be social, but F1 isn’t great – and Sundays are beyond bad.

It would not be hard for RA to out-do F1. I can’t believe I haven’t gone yet.

Furthermore... they change the track configurations (I'm not sure why - maybe depending on how busy they are, to slow the track down?) which screws up lap times. Between that and the vastly different karts... it's impossible to know where you stand.

/end rant. ...for now.

They did the day they opened.

Rarely do they run late, and at that, it's only by 10 min or so.

One of the best things about RA, is there's not much in the way of hard things to hit, like you have at F1, so the karts stay in better condition all the time.

Here's the fees for RA: $10 monthly licence or $20 yearly lic. $20 race on either track. That's it. (F1 only SUndays for that) Track 2 is longer, so you get less 'laps' but the same amount of seat time for both.

They have events where you pay something $100 and you can run all day until your arms fall off. They have some nights that they run a linked track. (Yes, open to public, not league).

And the people running the place make it that much more enjoyable. I've never seen anyone on the staff get pissy with anyone. They handle 'issues' in a calm and respective manner.

What this 240 lb person likes the most? There's no hills! It's all flat... which makes the racing more even. (I'll still get walked by someone that's 120 lbs wet... but not as bad as the hill at F1).

F1 is a place to go if you need something to do. RA is a place to go race karts.

I had a great time. Good meeting you guys. I know Ethan wanted to get involved with autocrossing, so heres a link to the SCCA schedule for this year: http://www.ner.org/Solo/06/06schedule.htm NHIS is a bit of a hike, nearly 2 hours, but Devens is close by.

I had fun again, but probably because I didn't feel like I was shafted on the track this time. Can someone give RA a call and see if we can get 17 and maybe 16-year-old drivers on the track?

Thanks Peter! It was nice meeting you and Patty (is that how he spells it?) - and your Father... he was hilarious. :]

Let me know if you're going to one? I'll do the same. If you're on AIM/AOL - my screen name is gaget00 (same as here, but without the 'd'). Or email me at ethanpease@gmail.com

-----
Not a bad turnout afterall, yesterday. It was a good time. Looking forward to the next meet! ...hopefully I it won't be as expensive a day for me...

Also - if anyone wants to go to Racing America with me this week, let me know (^contact info above^). I think I'm going to go and check it out and then try and get into a league.

I'll be at Racing America this Wed. again around 7.

I go Wed. because its $10 a round, unlike normally its $20. Less people, but still enough people to race. And carts are def. better.

They're both good company and I can't keep them away from karting. The correct spelling of my brothers name is Paddy, same as the whisky. Its short for Patrick, but no one calls him that. He probably wouldn't respond to it either.

I'm hardly ever on AIM. My handle is Petabred12.

We should keep this going with meets on the first Sunday of every month. Try and alternate between RA/F1/NED

Any good? We want to rebuild MattB's Turbo II engine (that we bought) for our AE. Originally we thought Kevin Landers but it would be nice to do it locally.

BTW, next time meet at RA. If my 17 year old son can race with you the other "young bloods" should be able to (with the proper licensing). He'd kick our butts, but it would still be fun. He says that half of the fun is screwing around in the RA parking lot.

Sounds good to me. Also - I'm planning on going to the first NHIS AutoX in Loudon, NH on April 23rd... any chance you or anyone else here wants to go?

Like I told you before, its not worth going to check out. Just go and race. Thats like going to a bar to check out the scene, but not staying to have a drink.

BTW, if you've never auto-xed before, you'll learn that you are the slow part of the car/driver equation, not the car, tires, suspension, etc. And KC (Imp) will kick all of our asses in his stock RX-8.

I'm up for it - just let me know.

And as for "Bring the rx-7 club to work" day.... I was checking out the Boston Sportscar website last night... and I agree with Zumspd 120%. If I worked there, I wouldn't be able to sleep every night before a workday - I'd be way to excited.

Bring the RX7club to work? Thats not going to happen. We do have an open house in the fall and I'll let you guys know about it when it comes around. The website is a bit out of date. Look out for a huge update in the near future.
