Real estate and income taxes are lower than MD.
Energy prices are lower too... Gas bill for my house in the winter is less than $200 to keep it at 75 deg. Electric is about $150 to keep it at the same temperature in the summer.
I've gotten worse tickets in MD than in NoVA.
Then there's that whole issue with guns... If they won't issue CCW permits in MD, can you open carry?
Plus, it's semi-official... MD drivers are "the devil"...

That's kind of a crappy outlook on it though. Don't buy a nice car that you want simply because you don't want to pay the taxes on it every year? I'm a car guy, I like nice cars. There's no way I'd make my buying decision like that. I like nice things too much.
Gun laws, I don't agree with. But then, there are very few states who have gun laws I do agree with. And I was raised here and know family and friends here, so I'm willing to give up a little in that area.
I carry my gun (illegally) when I feel like I may come to have a confrontation. I'd rather be alive and ask a judge for forgiveness than be a dead law-abiding citizen. And yes I know that things like that happen 'any time, anywhere' but if you know ahead of time you're going to be in a bad part of town or out late in a secluded area, you should know to bring your gun, if you're willing to use it.
Seriously, I couldn't live in VA. Call me the devil if you want to, but having seen the kind of drivers that come out of DC into Maryland, I'd rather be the devil than a blind and angry mutant goat.

Meh. I just don't buy expensive vehicles.

If I buy a $2400 car and it lasts me two years, I come out ahead of the guy who's paying over $100 a month for their new car... When's the last time you ever even heard of a $100 a month or even a $200 a month car payment?
I was looking at a used Tacoma that was two years old and had 50K miles on it. Dealership wanted $410 a month for it for the next three years. I walked out.
I'll keep my '96 Honda Passport. (Isuzu Rodeo) Which, having 4wd won't stay pristine for long. Soon as I learn to use my MIG Welder, it gets a Dana44HP under the front end and a 2" DOM Mild steel exo cage... After that, I can chuck the V6 and put in the 3.9L Diesel 4 banger.
I'm a car guy too. I turn wrenches. Me. Not the dealer... Hence, no new cars.
VA tickets are simple... If you get a $100 ticket, it's $100 whether you go to court or not... Unless the charge is dropped, then it's nothing.
I got pulled over in PG county and the trooper was making up numbers. I took the tickets to court and the judge charged me with less than half the amount on the tickets. That's corruption. It was my most expensive traffic stop ever. Over $600 in tickets.
Besides, once you know the areas you drive in, you can avoid the cops. It's been over five years since my last NoVA ticket.
I gotta invest in a radar detector if I'm gonna keep on going south though.
Not everyone can weld and turn wrenches - the majority can't. So for the majority, VA still SUCKS.

My duallie was 40k. There's a monthly payment, but I write off the entire cost of it over 5 years - 8k in deduction for it each year. And no yearly taxes on the vehicle itself. I fail to see why I would want to pay the state value based taxes on it when I paid sales tax at the dealership to buy it.

Considerably more disgusting than your Ram though.
Got decent hauling capacity though:
Drove it like that all the way through Chicago to Aurora, Illinois... Then south past St. Louis, Missouri. Good times.
Other photos from that road trip are below... Including something slightly more ridiculous than a cobbled together tow truck.
I've never consider myself part of the majority.

I got pulled over today with highly illegal tints, no front plant and a suspended registration for emissions. I got a warning for the front plate and the cop let me go. (btw, I'll be selling the horseshoe in my *** for 1 beeeeelion dollars.)
Alternatively in virginia, had I gone to court I wouldve gone to jail for 5 days (according to that guy davita that FDnewbie always reccomends) for doing 80 in a 55 and had an 800 dollar fine.
I agree the DC area sucks, but NOVA is worse then the MD side of DC.
This is quite possibly the only arguement you've got us beat on. It's nigh impossible to get a CCW in MD and the penalty for concealed carry without a permit is a mandatory 5 year sentance.
Read #6 carefully, and use your imagination to determine what reasons you would consider valid reasons to carry:
Concealed Permit:
May Issue to Residents and Non-Residents
Requirements:
1. Is 18 years of age or older.
2. Has not been convicted of a felony or of a crime punishable by imprisonment for more than one year.
3. Has not been committed within the previous 10 years to any juvenile detention center for longer than one year.
4. Is not an addict or alcoholic nor has ever been convicted of a narcotics offense.
5. Has not, based on the results of investigation, exhibited a propensity for violence or instability.
6. Has, based on the results of investigation, "good and substantial reason" to carry a handgun, including a finding that the permit is "necessary as a reasonable precaution against apprehended danger." [5]
I won't go any further into it because it's not necessary. Anyone who has doubts, suit yourself, I don't need to argue the point.

Crash Test Joey, #6 on that list is how VA got their CCW laws. Oliver North and his buddies in office.
Im perfectly happy with my .22 handgun and will be even more when i get my 9mm this xmas (father-in-law already bought it for me).
Apparently Stun guns are illegal in Howard County. oh well..
Rapid change of topic, i finally got my LC-1 working in my new supra. apparently the 1.10 firmware is 100% CRAP. 95% of ALL the problems were fixed by rolling back to firmware 1.00a. my car now cruises down the freeway at 12.4-12.8 with longer nonvariable throttle runs getting it up closer to 13.8. when turbo kicks in, it ramps up to 14.4-14.6 and holds.
already got a couple datalogs of my O2 to review and from what i see, its only a little tweaking of my MAFT to correct some of the rest of the patches. hopefully byebye single digit gas mileage.

I enjoyed 28.2 MPG on my way to florida. Yes thats 409 miles on 14.5 gallons of high test. I <3 teh ls1.
My car is so heavily modified and the ONLY electronics on it is the MAF Translator to replace the AFM. now that i can get wideband reading on exhaust, i can actually tune it out. i still hate having to use false data to the ECU to trick it into doing what you want it to do, but thats what i gotta do in the meantime. still have issue with the blown pipe and that pesky fuel cut at 12psi
the plus side, i can run with full boost on 89 and sometimes 87 fuel because it stays on the rich side.

The bad news is my 160hp NA RX7 gets maybe 220 miles on the same amount of gas
