Julian is going to be soldering his megasquirt tonight (more of it anyway) if anyone wants to come by. He's getting pretty good at soldering now.
I specified "learn to solder wires" b/c that's what falnfenix needed to do... and it's easier anyway.

oh yeah, jason's 'vert is running a lot better now. Not perfect yet, but we're getting it there... the fuel maps are almost dialed in where jason wants them just a little more tuning at really low revs (like idle to maybe 2000) and high vacuum. Jason seems to be able to hit parts of the map that almost nobody else ever hits. Like 800 rpms and low vacuum (high load). I have to hand-tune that because at low revs the megasquirt can't respond fast enough to the afr to do anything about it (plus I have closed-loop only turning on above 1000 rpms).
At cruise and high load, the engine pulls pretty nice (could probably use more ignition advance, but we're playing it safe until we have an EGT gauge). Deceleration fuel cut works nicely... there are spots in the datalogs like 15 seconds long or longer where there was no fuel being injected on engine braking... that should save some gas.
I'm going to tune the accel enrichments tonight to get back the throttle response, and then it should be daily drivable from 0 throttle to full throttle up to 4000 rpms. We need to get the aux ports and VDI working before tuning any higher (I'm fairly sure actuating the aux ports or VDI will change the volumetric efficiency of the engine a fairly large amount, so there's no point in tuning without them)
I've also ordered the circuitry I need to switch back over to the stock rotary ignition... leading only for now, and then when the code is good enough, I'll add trailing back... then the stock dash-board tach will start working again
There are a few mechanical problems still though, like the throttle linkage seems to be getting stuck at 2% throttle occasionally, and the alternator can't decide whether it wants to work or not, so those are affecting the tuning a little.

. and don't worry, my car doesn't have aux ports or VDI, cause it's not dumb
edit: well I have a l337 FD alternator already, cause my car is awesome

The MS-II isn't going to be available again until July or August anyway, and there are plenty of people running the firmware I'm running on rotary engines... so it's a tuning issue, not a hardware-speed issue.
All that said, by July/Aug when the ms2 comes out, we MIGHT switch... we won't need to, but it's that "it's working right so I need to break it" factor

anyone that posts with us have a first gen? I found 2 in the bone yard in laurel on Friday. One was a 85 in great shape and one was a 79 with a alomst perfect tan interior. Anyways I grabbed the speedometer guage cluster, center storage/arm rest column, some passanger seat lever that lets the driver put the seat forward, and 2 dash switch housings for defrost and a few other things. I am going to carbon these in probably 2x2 5.7 oz twill if anyone wants dibs. Also I wont bother making these in the future due to costs over gain and the fact that their is 2 different 1st gen interiors just wouldn't make it worth it. Drop me a pm if you need something made.

it was at crazy rays. The car was red and the interior was grey. Motor was complete with carb. Very clean car. Its in the import section all the way in the back of the yard. You better get what you need soon. Rays crushes cars after 3 months and I am not sure how long it has been their.
