I have a quick and important question that was brought to my attention by Chuch earlier this week. Are we mapping out gas stops for people that are running E85 in their cars? I know there must be some sort of schedule for gas stops and all that but the E85 is alot harder to find and those guys have to fill up quite a bit more often than the normal 93 octane guys. Just curious how we're gonna be working that out.
Either way, let us know what you find b/c we would still love to have you on the caravan.
The location that we are meeting at has 3 gas stations, so we'll make sure everyone is topped off before we hit the road. We will play it by year (depending on how much spirited driving will take place ) which we will try to keep to a minimum to conserve gas, so we'll shoot to stop roughly every 300-400 miles to fill up.

Dennis already mentioned the schedule, but for more detail:
I've found it's best arrive sometime Thursday. We get in late that night, there is nothing going on that day.
Friday is a prep/meet and greet day. You also can get acquainted with the Dragon at a leisurely place to minimize your chances of going off the side of the mountain on Saturday
The main day of the event is Saturday. Car show, Dragon runs, Fontana Dam photo shoot, etc.
Saturday night is the awards banquet and beer drinkin'
Sunday usually people have breakfast and head out. There is the skyway run for those interested, usually the more local guys do that.

I'm 100% for the caravan, but I'm having a few minor scheduling issues; I'm trying to get Ray Wilson to tune my car since I'm going to be passing right by PFS, I don't know if I should go early and meet you guys in Maryland or if I should ride down for a bit with you guys and just split off at my exit. I'd like the first option better because I would be riding with the caravan for much longer, but I think it would be difficult to coordinate what time I'm going to be finished and where we could meet.

This is what worked for us last year on the caravan:
We only made stops for fuel and for a quick bite to eat. We didn't speed like idiots, but kept to a nice consistent 70 to 75 mph the entire way.
The intent is to get there late thursday nite, have a decent nights sleep, and relax friday. We can check out all the rotaries as they arrive, enjoy the surroundings, and maybe make a Dragon run or two. It helps to take a breath and get ready for Saturday, which is the big day
I have received speeding tickets on the way down there, especially in VA where radar detectors are illegal and the cops are sneaky. Racing and swerving in and out of lanes are kept to a strict minimum (ie none), I didn't get a ticket last year and hope for the same this year.
In order to leave thursday morning and arrive that night, we'll have to spend the majority of the day on the road..... no time for scenic detours, hanging out at random rest stops etc.
So--- road warriors only need apply
