Iowa rotary Unity
Doesn't it seem strange that we cannot find one single qualified rotary mechanic in Iowa? Is there not enough interest or what seems to be the problem in organizing a rotary tuning shop in Iowa? I am trying to figure these questions out. I have been a rotary enthusiast for 15 years, never finding any local backup. When you have rotary projects trial and error gets expensive not to mention frustrating. Please do not think i am venting. I would like to persuade some Austraillian rotary mechanics our way. If there is anyone in the Cedar Rapids Iowa area that could use some physical help with your rotary project e-mail me at striegels6@aol.com. I am currently installing a streetported 12a in my B2200 work truck. Any locals with experiance would be greatly appreciated as well.
Honestly, the need for rotary mechanics is so small that it's not like there's people lined up to work specifically on these vehicles. Also, the same principals of working on a piston engine apply to the rotary too. It's not like a piston engine mechanic would have trouble adapting their skills to a rotary. I'm a piston engine mechanic, but know a lot of information on the rotaries just by working on a few and studying them.
P.S. Why did you bump a 2 year old thread? Iowa already has a thread going...

I work for a lot of doctors in my field of work. A general practitioner is a doctor who diagnoses symtoms and in many cases referes the patient toa doctor who specifies in the area of expertise needed. A heart surgeon, neurologist-nerves-brain chemistry etc. Taking your child or mother to a Orthopedic surgeon( bone specialist ) will not help if they have cardiac arrest(a heart attack). Usually the specialist doctor is in the field of study they are in because they have a enthusiastic desire to work in a specified field. Rotary specialist are much the same. Not just because of general mechanical knowledge only. They have specific experiance with each part of the rx7. The guys at Atkins rotary could probably work on a Northstar v8 but they would probably rather work on a rotary powered vehicle because of experiance. Don't get me wrong, some mechanics are just talented mechanics period. Usually underestimated, unappreciated and under paid. Mechanics of all sorts make the world go round. As for the thread, it popped up on a search I did and your response is the result of it. Thanks for responding.
