Need help connecting to my megasquirt.

Well, I've had megasquirt for a few years now, and I've only used this one computer to tune with and I've never configured another megatuene before.
I had a virus the other day and had to re-install megatune but its a different version than I had before, its 2.25 p3, and I cannot get it to connect. I'm using the same computer with the same cable and USB adapter and I check the device manager and all that to make sure I have the right comm port selected. Is there anything else I need to do to connect to the megasquirt?
I have a V3 board btw.
Thanks, Philip

What is the problem you are having? What errors? Has the Configurator been run to configure Megatune to your ECU and options?

Try turning all the buffers down to zero for that COM port.

its not connecting to the ECU when I go to the setting/communitation and try to test it, it says "no response"
And no, I did not run the configurator at all, what do I need to do? I had to completely re-install megatune on my computer... but I'm using both the same ecu, laptop, and cable as I did before.

Also, how do I turn the buffers to zero? Is that in megatune or windows?

Thanks, Philip

You will probably need to configure Megatune via the Configurator as it's unlikely your setup matches the default setup.

You will find the buffer settings for the COM port in Device Manager. Right click the COM port and do "Properties", then check the "Port Settings" tab. The buffer settings are generally accessed by clicking the "Advanced" button.

could you remind me of how i'd find instructions to configure megatune via the configurator?

I remember now that a CD came with me megasquirt that had the software already set up on it, i'm not home now to look for it. So i've never done this setup process before, any more help would be appreciated.
thanks, Philip

Open up Megatune and from the File menu, select "Configurator". You'll then need to know what sensors you are running on the ECU.

Are you sure you have the .ini file in the ecu that matches the software version you are tying to use? It looks like you need to reload Megatune. You need to have the same version. If the version loaded on the ecu is different from the one you are tying to use now, it's not going to work.

Ok, that makes since.
I did have an older version on megatune before...
1. how do i know which one I had before?
2. Where do I download earlier version? The one I downloaded is the only one I could find.

Don't bother downloading an older version of Megatune. Stick with the newest. Find out what firmware your 'Squirt is running (use Hyperterminal to view it's boot up string when powered on) and then download that firmware version. Use the copyini.bat file to move the INI file to the correct location and then use the Configurator to activate it.

Yeah, I wish this was simpler as well. I'm about 75% through my step by step Megasquirt write up and firmware differences are killing me.

thanks guys, I finally got it to work.

With out a few of you in here I would have gotten nowhere with megasquirt.

And I seriously appreciate writeups like that, the ones that mythbuxor did in the FAQ helped my tremendously in the past.

Phil are you going to be at the next meet? Do you have a wideband? I'll bring you a full timing map. Just aim for 13:1 afr's across the board. This will be a real good starting point for fine tuning it all in but will probably run better than any tune you've had so far.

naw, I won't be at a meet for a while... but thanks for the offer... I probably won't bother tuning it too well while its just N/A.

It did suck that I just have to make a 1,200 mile drive not being able to connect to it. I still got about 20.5 mpg but I put the stock vert wheels back on with some skinny *** tires.
Those 275's I got from kyle were killer on the gas mileage.
