MS on a FI 12a?

Ive been reading thru the threads, and the archives and found that all the tuning and the board building has been for the 2nd and 3rd gens.....now im running a 4brl TB with 4 injectors...on a 12a thats being turboed....i know that i need to remove my stock dizzy b/c its secondaries run off the vaccum of the carb (which is no longer there) so i need to convert my dizzy over to electronic....also im trying to convert the ignition setup to the 2GCDFIS if that will makes things easier...

do i need to setup the board any different for my setup? or can i just go with a 13BT map and adjust from there?....im kinda new to this...only worked with MS on a honda before so the difference will be huge between piston and rotary i would expect....

a little about my setup is: 12a streetported, 4brl 750cfm TB, 4x 760cc/min injectors, Walbro 255lph FP, Aeromotive RRFPR

if u need anymore info about my setup just throw the questions at me...ill try and stay updated on this thread....thanks for any and all advice....Parker

Hey, man! When you gettin back from Iraq?

What do you mean by secondaries? Vac. advance you mean? If so, you don't need it. Definitely do not hook it up to straight engine vac.
You can run the stock dizzy, I think a few turbo guys are, but the mechanical advance is locked on those setups, I believe. Maybe talk to FBII, I think he used to have one.. Also, the 2gcdfis is very decent and a shortcut to FC ignition stuffs, just be careful about your timing and how much boost you're running. If you run serious or even moderate boost, you will definitely want to go with MS ignition control. But that's my opinion.

BTW, Mike Robert is running a 12a streetport. If the porting and injector sizing is similar, you may be able to compare settings on the NA side of your VE table..

Yeah, I'd be happy to give input on the non-FI side of the VE map - my injectors flow 750, so , there ya go. Ignition too!

FI = Forced Induction not the more obvious FI. I shouldn't enter messages when tired! What I meant is that I have real world data on the sub-100 kPa 12A instance but do not have hands-on data for boosted operation.

I have a core rebuilt and ported by Atkins. I'm pretty pleased with the product - it just seems to get stronger as it gets more miles. I've got it down right now doing an MS-II 12-1 wheel decode reinstall, will report how that goes in the next couple of weeks.

Mike: James (jsmcortina) and I are going to try to "fix" the ms2 wheel decoder so it can handle the same kinds of high-revs that the msns-extra firmware can handle. Until then, I'd stay below 8000 if you're going to do that.

Ken, thanks for the headsup - I'm benching things tonight, hopefully. Tightening up the ISRs are you (and James) ?

Pretty much... I don't know when I'll have time to do it, or if James is really going to do it (I will if he doesn't) but basically that's what needs done.

Right now the ISR that gets triggered whenever a tooth passes the VR sensor has a lot of division operations in it. So many '/'s it's sickening. The way James got around that in msns-extra is that he kept all divs in the main routine instead of the ISR. Right now there is only one div in the ISR, and that's related to trailing dwell (I put it there), and that doesn't seem to cause any problems as I've been able to run up to 12000 rpms on the bench w/o problems, and 9000 rpms in-car without problems.

I think getting rid of all the divisions from that interrupt handler would make the sky the limit (or close).

alright thanks for some of the info....some of it lost me....but im looking at running some fairly good boost and i noticed that goin above 8000rpm might be a problem? or am i reading this wrong?....right now im just trying to get the main points of what i need and what i need to know....i wont be back in the USA until around the end of Feb...once im back ill be getting the engine rebuilt and streetported and everything tapped and fitted for turboing and all the sensors....now when it comes to MS i just need to know what version of the board should i get and what daughterboard's if any i need to build as well....thanks for all the info and advice...parker

I ran it on the bench to 12K and it was OK (latest 2.5 code. 2.54 I think?) for at least 2 minutes at that speed. Got a little noisy (using weedeater engine to drive CAS) so I stopped there. That should be sufficient to be safe for most purposes.

Note to parker: some of the stuff muy and I are bantering about has to do with future stuff, theoretical improvements and thought experiments. Feel free to ignore. The MS-1 chip running MSNS-E w/ muys rotary enhancements works just fine!

Mike: yeah I think I read somewhere that limit was with a 36-1 wheel, so I'd expect to be able to go a bit higher with a 12-1... the ms2 is less likely to miss the tooth after a trigger tooth if the teeth are further apart. Since the teeth are 3x further apart on a 12-1 wheel than on a 36-1 wheel, I'd expect 2-3x higher. I just wanted to make sure you tested on the bench before testing in-car
