Idle AFR @ 11.5!?!?
Idle AFR @ 11.5!?!?
Hello Dorito fans and aficionados!
Just got the engine fired on the MicroSquirt. LUV it! I give much thanx to aka Taranabes for his help along the way of the installation. Couldn't have done it without his help..
My question is, what AFRs you all get at idle?
I'm running on an LC-1. Here is a link to the car idling ('87 Tii, S5 block, stock ports) :
Much above what the gauge shows, the engine starts to fight back. The exhaust is not bad at all.
Vacuum is 16.5 inHg per my trusty 30 year old USA made Craftsman vacuum gauge.
Throttle response is instant as if the flywheel lost weight!!
Here's the thing. TunerStudio's AFR gauge is displaying about 0.8 point higher. And yes it's wired up correctly with the LC-1's heater ground wire on the chassis. It's a real head scratcher.
BTW, I'm running 550 x 1680's, in case I shoot towards higher power 1 day. If any1 has a similar set up that is willing to share the MSQ file, it will be much appreciated.

Guess I can answer the question myself. I see some1s post who claims 11.5 also and what appears to be on an FD. And likely sequential. So, 13.5 seems an unlikely target to reach more so on batch fire.

mine is weirdly temp sensitive, when its not warmed up it wants to be at like 11.5, when it is warmed up its ok to about 12.8, so i've been compromising and i think its at like 12.2?
i did a quick sweep, of AFR vs intake vacuum, and 12.2-12.5 is the sweet spot, at least for mine.
the default PFC map had it at 11.2 which ran ok, but very stinky.

True, though it depends entirely on system configuration/makup - ports, injectors, injector controllers (in this case an MS) - and at times that recipe makes for a richer than desired mixture at low load and RPM. It's the nature of baking an engine cake.

ive run into that as well, the 800rpm idle and actually driving at 800rpm use the same cell in the map (i think), but need different fuel. i just need to quit driving at 800rpm! (the FC Tweak works more quickly if you're in 1 gear most of the time)
Mine (stock port S4 NA, MS3X) idles around 12.5 at 900rpm. It will idle as lean as about 13.5 before stalling. This is with stock injectors and sequential fuel.
I have an exhaust leak I'd like to fix before trying to tune it leaner, but I think it should be achievable. One day once I have some more modern injectors I'd really like to see if I can get it to idle around stoich. But this is mostly academic, since really you should just tune for the smoothest idle and not worry about the AFR.
Besides, if you're spending all day idling, you're driving the car wrong
