VA Flooding and starting

ALrighty then. I had a buddy of mine try to start the car and he flooded it because he pumped it too much. I went back out an hour later and it started up after 20 seconds of cranking. Boy does that thing smoke until what I am guessing all the gas is burnt off.

I am noticing that the car is chillin at 2k rpms at idle. . . BUT i noticed... that when I turned the wheel my a/f ratio went from 12.5 to a constant. 14.7... is that normal? I am not sure how accurate is the gauge but here is a video.

The only effect turning the wheel should have is idle speed can dip & mixture can change slightly (if you have power steering). The engine won't idle well at all (or may stall) with a mixture as lean as 14.7:1. It's much happier idling in the 12-13 range. The 02 sensor is also not used at idle, so there's no reason the ECU would try to adjust the mixture to 14.7 (stoichiometric).

In other words, I don't trust your gauge, and there's bound to be another issue that's causing the engine to idle at about 2k RPM. The TPS or a stuck throttle cable can do it. You might also look into the gauge's wiring.

Not at idle. You're quoting WOT mixtures under boost.

Turning the wheel puts load on the engine witch in turn will change the amount of fuel and air going in the motor. Also with the motor being flooded you factory o2 sensor could not be up to operating temp as fast as normal so the ecu is not sure how much fuel to add until it had been warmed up to temp.

Well it flooded again at the shop today. Imma bet the shop who works on muscle cars and carbed cars pumped it. Well I pulled the EGI fuse and cranked it a few times then it ran like a charm. I had a hunch since I havent checked the fluid since I bought it. Well

It had like enough oil just to cover the tip o boy. I put it 2 things of oil and it was doing quiet well. Now back to the flooding.

Is it my injectors or is it my o2 sensor? Ive read that the 7s dont like short start ups due to something like not finishing warming up.

But on better news the exhaust sounds good. Its close to stock quiet which I like until I can get it properly registered and fixed.

you don't PUMP an EGI'd Car!..
that is why you are flooding.
Try starting without touching the pedal.IF it fails to start then pull the EGI fuse and then try to start it again.

??.you asked a question.,I gave an answer..so don't kill the messenger!

The Rx7 also has a tendency to foul injectors(they stick and produce flooding).Solution is to get the injectors cleaned/serviced.
..oh..and the Water thermo sender(back of water pump housing) tends to Go out of whack and creates Hot start problems.Flooding occurs as the engine thinks it is still cold, when it is actually hot and up to temp.

Idle issue at 2k could be an out of adjustment thermowax, had the same problem with hight idle and that adjusted to correct. set screw is on backside bottom assembly of throttle...hard to get to wothout removal. As for the injectors...yes they don't like short warmups, have the same problem on primaries.. I did the EGI dance many, many, many times

Rebuilding my engine now...No it did not fail.
