raced a eclipse tonight in the fd...

i was hanging out at the local spot tonight and this eclipse rolled up beside me. from what i could see he had a front mount and a single turbo. not sure what kind of turbo or boost he was running. so we go out to the freeway and we start at 40 and i was in 2nd. we take off and we are neck and neck then he shifts and i keep right on going pulling on him more and more then i had to go around a truck and was still pulling. let off at about a 120 and i had a car and a half on him. fun night. this was my first real kill. my mods a a trust exhaust, intake, and a dp. lol fun to beat a single turbo with that setup.

sounds to me like a 16g eclipse.
Those cars are pretty trashy unless you do the right thing to them.

problem with those cars is that you have a lot of kids modding them, and basically just throwing parts at them with no real reason.

Sounds to me like this one was AWD (why you pulled him so good up top) and a small turbo... if it was the 2g he could have upgraded to a 14b which have otherwise came stock with a t25, basically a little smaller than a hairdryer lol.

With a 16g and the supporting mods mid 12 second passes are not impossible with the AWD models.

Nice kill though

you're right my friend, dsm's aren't junk cars in any way, it is proven that the 4g63 is the worlds best and powerful 4 cylinder engine. 1000+whp is not easy on a 4 cylinder engine. i respect dsm's everywhere i go, it seems the eclipse the thread starter race wasn't all that modded, because if he had a 18g or 20g turbo with good tune it would have smoke his fd looking at the little mods the fd owner has, my brother has an eagle talon tsi and he walk over me all day long but he is indeed heavily modded, the only thing stock about the engine is the pistons and rods that's it.

Yeah I'm deff with tooslow7... I had a 92 tsi awd 6 bolt with an 18g and supporting mods.. I never had the chance to run it at the strip before i blew a timing belt and bent the valves but after that big turbo spooled up it was pretty insane.. Thos 6 bolt motors are bulletproof. The 2nd gens with the 420a are junk though so if you beat one of those don't feel to special. 420a's crank walk like a son of a gun. I had a problem DSM though and those do exist. Seemed like i was always working on that thing.

Uh, the 420a is the engine in the second gen non-turbo eclipse. The engine in the second gen turbo DSMs is still a 4g63 but with the 7 bolt motor. The crankwalk issue is overstated and is basically a manual specific problem. The 7 bolt is a VERY strong motor, but the 6 bolt basically ensures you wont have any crankwalking issues at all. Most problems with DSMs are people doing ridiculous stuff like turning up the boost on the small t25 and then saying the car sucks when it blows. I have to admit that I have had electrical issues with my DSM, but after the initial maintenance and stuff that comes with a 10+ year old car..the car has been very strong engine-wise. Been through an alternator though..

+1. Kids that buy old cars and don't do the proper maintenance and then buy a boost controller and ebay intercooler and think they can beat anything. Not like that happens in every auto community to some extent. I have an original unopened 7 bolt with 170k+ Miles. With a 65lb/min turbo so it's not like I take it easy on the thing.

If you guys only know the power of the 4G63 you guys wouldn't talk. I had a 11 sec FWD DSM fellas...with stock internals. Thats why I'm putting a built 4G63 in my FD. The motor is the most boost loving, hard hittin',dont wanna break, cheap parts, most versatile(AWD,FWD or RWD), runs like a V12, baddest 4 cylinder motor on the planet. Better recognize man. If I were you catch-22, I would feel lucky...lol

who's this shitwad?

the 4G63 is an okay turbo 4. It makes good power for real cheap, then dies. There's plenty of motors that are better than it and it's the only motor I trust less than a turbo rotary to start in the morning. You come in here and claim all sorts of ricer ****, then make a joke(?) about the 4G63 being so reliable when there's 17 years worth of people who know that's not true. Sure the Evo seems to have had the kinks worked out, but you can't be serious and say that the old DSMs were anything but crap boxes.

Oh and people have been talking about putting 4G63s into FDs for years, but I've yet to see one completed. If you finish it, bravo, you took out a superior motor to put in a turbo economy motor that was created(deficated?) by a merger of two companies that could barely support themselves to begin with.
