WA Hello from Seattle

Hi RX / 7 Club. I have a 1994 white car. I bought it new and have maintained in at the Mazda dealer. Everything is stock. The engine blew at 50K (like they all did). I did have an independent Mazda tech (no longer in business) put the new motor in the car because the dealer was way more money. It seems like every year I have to replace something like the door handles... I had a new clutch put in at 72,944 miles in October 2020 for about $3K. At 73,700 miles I started smelling raw gas in the cabin and the new clutch was sticking to the floor. So back to the dealer (I am not a mechanic by any stretch) the work order included replacing all the injectors and seals. Replaced upper and lower intake gaskets and seals, fuel pressure regulator, hoses, engine wiring harness, new drive belts and vacuum lines for about $10K.

I do not know why the silver pealed off the center of the wheels or the white paint is flaking off the front bumper or how to stop it. Took off the license plate so you could see better.

I am kind of afraid to drive the thing... anyway happy to find this site and hopefully the Canadian border will open up and I can go commiserate with other Pacific NW "7's".

Nice car. Applause for your preservation efforts. Value of such cars is climbing and yours is a more rare 1994. In Canada this car would be a good candidate for "collector's plates" which provides for very low insurance, but fairly broad recreational driving rules. Perhaps Washington State has something similar.

Welcome to the forum!!

Mazda had issues with their Hi-Reflex paint on the 93-95 RX-7. Its a wonder it lasted this many years before developing an issue. Peeling and cracking were all too common, even when these cars were new.

As for the other maintenance, just remember that the car is 27 years old and the heat generated by the engine and its packaging takes a toll on rubber components, especially the fuel system and wiring harness. The wiring and connectors become brittle and can literally fall apart when they are disturbed.

I'm just saying that some of what you're experiencing is due to the car's age and not a fault of the car's. But we are here to help and to guide you on the right path for repair and to offer advice to help keep your car on the road for many years to come. Its a beautiful car and I suspect there aren't many other original owners here. Kudos to you for taking such good care of the car for the last 27 years!
