New member Rx7 FD3s 1994
Hi RX7club Forum folks,
I'm a new member but actually have been viewing, researching and learning from this website intensely for a year now before and after buying my first rotary engine car. And, am most appreciative and thankful for all those who have posted informative experiences and solutions.
Here's the information on the RX7:
- RX7 FDS3 1994 Black
- 102,000 miles on the odometer, but the engine was rebuilt by the previous owner ~85K miles.
- My son and I have left this mostly stock, no porting, no single turbo conversion, etc. and just did upgrades or maintenance that enhances the reliability of the car so we can have fun driving anywhere and on the twisty backroads in any weather with no breakdowns.
Example of things that were done (with the assistance of SakeBomb) was:
- rebuilt brake calipers
- replaced coolant overflow reservoir
- new shocks: Ohlins DFV road and track
- NOS turbos bearings
- upgraded old tubing with silicone vacuum line replacements
- rebuilt the fuel injectors
- new exhaust: Racing Beat Dual Tip exhaust (still hefty exhaust note and does not drone like the previous exhaust that was on it)
- replaced bushings throughout
- SakeBomb garage brake lines
- new Centri front and rear brake rotors
- Petit Racing Aluminum AST
Since completing the work, we have had nothing but fun with this car and it was certainly stretched to its limits on a 108F hot indian summer day going up the steep Santa Cruz, California, mountain grades in sweltering stop and go traffic. After reading all the forum experiences of overheating, blown seals, etc., it was for this reason we toned down any engine modifications. Well, all worked out well. The car ran perfectly, had no issues, and has since been taken to Lake Tahoe and many mountain road twisties since. What an amazing car this FDS3 is. Light, nimble, and 'love' the second turbo when it kicks in.
Jump in it, it fires up immediately, let it warmup a little and then...go! This car feels a part of you and makes you want to exercise its road going limits. Of course, you all knew that already. ;-)
Fun!
