New Owner in St. Louis
Hello everyone. Completely brand new to this whole Mazda thing. Didn't even plan on getting this car, it basically fell into my lap but, here it is. 1985 GSL-SE. Looks like I might have something really special here according to everything I've been reading. This car is in pristine condition with apparently a lot of dealer options/add-ons and zero rust. These are the only pics I have, taken this evening and they do it no justice. I'm very thankful that there is a forum dedicated to these cars and look forward to learning a lot.

It sure is beautiful!!! You have two of three pieces of the original IMSA body kit. You have the original front bumper and the targa band. The rear spoiler is not a Mazda piece, but I bet the three piece wing was there at one point! What a clean and original SE!! That baby is beautiful! Do you know any history on the car? Would love to see more pics!

I actually have a ridiculous amount of background for the car. It was my wife’s grandpa’s and he bought it new. I have all kinds of paperwork from the sale like the window sticker, owners manual, mileage log etc.
The engine blew at 58k, so he had a new one put in, and I have all the original paperwork for that too. So, the motor in it now has 12k miles on it. He hit a parking block and cracked the bumper but, that is getting fixed this week. We’re also putting it on a lift, draining all fluids including gas (he hadn’t drove it in 2 years) and starting fresh as well as plugs and wires. There sounds like it might have a small exhaust leak at the muffler so that will be fixed as well. I’ll also be fixing a few door dings, doing some touch up here and there and detailing the interior.
So, it’ll be a busy week of sliding it in along with regular work but, I’m really anxious to drive it.

It's been a busy week! Pulled the bumper and it's fixed and getting painted tomorrow. Spent about 10 hours detailing inside and out. Touched up some trim, fixed some dents, drained all the fluids, spark plugs, fuel filter, painted some under hood parts. All in all, it's coming together perfectly and the car hasn't probably looked this good since it was built. Few minor things I would like to do: Find a dome light cover (or fix the one I have, replace the hatch arms, get some floor mats and maybe a cargo area mat. Maybe swap the fog and headlights for something better (led). Other than that, she's pretty much done in my opinion.

As far as plans go, I honestly have no idea. I would love to keep it stock for as long as possible because right now, it runs and drives like a dream. It’ll probably just be a Sunday funday car or maybe date night with the wife car. It stole my truck’s spot in the garage, there’s no way I’m gonna let it sit outside, or see rain for that matter.
I mentioned earlier that it was my wife’s grandfathers. He hasn’t seen it running or clean in many years so I think as soon as I get back home with it I’m going to surprise him and have him take me for a ride.
