Question Installer needs help

Hi - I'm new here at the RX7 forum - have been nice and polite, doing a search and trying to learn.

Anyway - I have an installer working on putting in a new stereo system in my 93 RX7, and he has run into trouble - here is an E-Mail I got from him today:

Just wanted to check in with you and let you know how things are going. We ran into a pretty big problem while putting in the stereo...we can't seem to get the stock cd/radio out of the car. We took apart the whole dash and still can't seem to get it out. Never seen anything like it before. Looks like there is a bracket housing that comes from behind the unit with two screws going into the back of the unit to house it. Only thing is, you can't get anything back there to take the screws out. Do you have a login for the rx-7 club???If you could go on there and ask some people how they got there stock bose units out I would appreciate the help. I talked to a few guys at the dealership and they didn't even know the answer.

Any help (is there an easy answer???) you can give him will be appreciated.......thanks!

you will need the "din keys" it's a piece of metal, like a coat hanger, bent into a "u"shape. There should be 2 holes on the left and right side of the deck where this is inserted, and used to pull the radio out.

Ok - I talked to my guy - shared the above with him.

They did try the "DIN" tools - but once they got back there, there is another mounting bracket holding the radio - screws into the back of the head unit - he says it looks like an "E" bracket but no center - has 2 lips on it that the screws go thru, but cannot fit a screwdriver into it - even the smallest snubbiest one.

Some one else suggested taking the center console out to get enough room.

This is driving them nuts - what shouldn't be such a hard thing (to guys who do this often) so any other suggestions will be helpful and definitely appreciated.

Sounds like he needs an "offset racheting" screwdriver then, or you need to find a new installer. Worst case take the whole dash apart.

the two screws in the back only holds on a rubber *** which supports the radio from the back, it should slide right out.

Tell your installer to insert the keys, and Pull. You have to pull the stereo hard enough to get the rubber to let go. Not rocket science, but the job made me scratch my head for a moment as well.
