FL Bodywork ????????????????????????

OK I have taken on the task of doing all the bodywork myself on my rx7. I am wanting to do a color change on it. It was blue. I havnt decided on the color yet. I have narrowed it down to either Black or White. Ill probably do white since it is the first time ive done bodywork and the imperfectins will easier to see with the black. I have never done bodywork ever and it seems that I need to stick to motors but im too far into it to stop.

My question is:Any reccommendations on where to look for more info on what im doing? I am really lost. I have started sanding. Fittied the bodykit but im not sure how far i need to sand the car down. I does haveat least 2 coats of paint on it already. I dont want to sand it down too far and cause more work later. What grit sandpaper do i start with and how do i know when to change sandpaper grit. I do have a big aircompressor for airtools and sprayguns but ill deff rent a booth to paint it in (if i ever get it that far errr).

Any help you can give would be great. I am a noob when it comes to bodywork. So thanks in advance for the help.

read the tech sheet for the paint you will be using it will tell you what grit to sand to.

usually you can paint over the original paint just sand it up to 400 grit then lay your base then clear. if you have gone down to metal in spots use an epoxy primer or self etching primer then lay down your regular primer.

if no bodywork is needed then use 320 on a DA and scuff places you cant get to with the DA with gray scotch brite.

ok here's an update on the bodywork. I am still trying to complete it. I took the wing off the car cause i wanted to go wingless for now. come to find out there was some water damage under it. so I cleaned all that up. spent a huge amount of time on the hood trying to get it perfect. im only about 40% done with the prep. I have come to realize i suck at bodywork. THis will deff be the last time i do bodywork. I would love to become good at it but it has sucked so far haha.

I have been half tempted to pay someone to finish it but then ill never learn it. I have become pretty motivated since my dad passed away. He is the one that gave me the car. so now it has kinda become a memorial restore now instead of a restore and road trip.

Anyway any tips yall can give me would be great. The biggest thing im struggling with is when filling a low spot i sand it too much. then i have to fill it again. Ive gone through a huge amount of filler and theres not much left on the car haha. I really dont want to pay someone to finish it but ive got to get this thing done. it has taken waaaay too long.

Use a longer block paint stick on your glaze. Use a guide coat if needed.
