big ass alum wings, gay, no?
well i got lucky and didnt actually pay for the wing. it came with my car when i bought it. the only reason its still on there right now is just for the fact that its so damn expensive (and for that matter no one around me has one).

I know you posted this a lil while ago, but I was drivin behind the new Carerra this morning, and it started to dip, so I was right behind it...and when it hit 75mph, the spoiler came up
So I was thinkin...hmmm...How often would the german geniuses put totally non-functional "ricer" equipment on their premier vehicle...a Porsche?
Without a doubt, spoilers help generate a great deal of downforce as speed increases (yes at the expense of drag...)
The average speed large spoilers generate significant downforce at is 80+ mph...(granted it becomes a SERIOUS resource at like 140mph). Point is, I dunno how your driving is, but I definetly exceed 80 mph on practically every drive I take the FD on, regardless of day/time
Oh and Batman, I'm definetly lookin forward to the pics =)

i like rear spoilers, but to a certian extent. i like the stock wing, the 99 spec wing, and a few others. they serve their purpose: they look good, and cause enough downforce needed for street driving. as for the double deckers, and the wings that sit above the top of the car... just makes it look like something that belongs to a 16 year old. no street driving needs a wing that big. speeds that make a spoiler like that useful should only be reached on a track, hence F1 cars have huge *** wings. but if you like the way big wings look, go for it. its your car, and you can do what ever you feel like.

yes, but how big was that wing? ive seen a video of the same car you are talking about, and the wing on the porsche turbo is a normal sized wing. it fits the car nicely, and looks good.

You're right about it being your car, and do what you like cuz in the end you're the one who's gotta deal w/ it...
But one point. Unless I'm just abnormally calm that day, anytime my FD hits the streets it's definetly going at significantly higher than street-legal speeds... and while I got flamed for this before (someone was outraged at me doing 120 on the highway) I say sorry... too bad, move on over. Cuz when I see that Corvette or Porsche or wutever, I'm goin for it, and you're definetly bound to break 100 EASILY. So in that sense, the wing is very functional to me

i agree joe-they have to serve a pupose but on a side note, aluminum=whack-*** but carbon fiber=bad ***, because if its truly there to serve a purpose, it should also have to be as light as possible

yes the difference is minimal but my point was that in the only acceptable situation (full on racing) you would want to go with the all around lighter piece wether it is marginal or not. On a side note - the pedestals are going to be where the major weight difference is, if they're cast compared to c/f
so many newbies say that they hate the look of em just because its cool to say they're ugly... i think they look good on some cars, not so good on others. for me, i think if its a black car and its a aluminum wing, the pedastals and the ends have to be black and the car has to have silver wheels... if so it looks nice... aluminum only looks good on black cars and red cars... thats it

I don't mind some of the nicer stuff on a well done car, such as the C-West Carbon Fiber wing. But the cheap *** APC garbage and knock off aluminum wings on a stock bodied car just look like ***.

Let's face it, they are mad gay. The only reason you see them is that they are cheap and easily stolen so all the guys with primer colored bodykits can buy them cheap. Then they have more money for Wal-Mart beautification upgrades. Which reminds my I need to by some more chrome door trim to put around my gas tank cover. Oh, and I can't forget those cool plastic double-bladed wipers and my dash mountable bubble compass WITH built in digital clock!!

Eg Red lights on the windshield washers. Looks interesting but it is gay nevertheless.

If you quite frequently push past 100mph, then guess wut...it's pretty damn function for you
EDIT: RedRex, this wasn't directed at you. It was more of taking your statement and directing it at "others..."

its all about contrast... if a car is reletively stock exterior wise, then alum. wings do look gay, but if they have a kit on it, then it does look good

It's just broad sweeping generalizations classifying ALL large wings as gay that i think is ignorant...
and here's my $0.02 for some of ya
the 99 spec stock wing...while lots claim it's fully functional, and it's technically "stock" JDM, i think it looks BUTT. MUCH worse than many other wings ive seen. And id take a large wing that "looks like a bench" over a bookshelf on the back of my car ANYDAY (not to mention that wing is practically the SAME wing as the ones on celica GTS' and WRXs)
(i also think a lot of ppl are more obsessed w/ something bein JDM more than how it actually looks... ("oh that's JDM? it's GOTTA be hot!)
