haltech wont power up.

im at whits end here guys. i purchased a haltech harness from someone on the forum, and proceeded to hook everything up. since im using a series 5 non turbo, the harness was just a simple plug and play. i however am running into some problems that are just pissing me off.

The haltech wont connect for the life of me to the laptop. the com settings are exactly correct, yet nothing i do will let it connect. I should also state that i have a usb to db9 serial connector adapter. i dont have any other things that use this to test my connection out.

also, how do i check to see if my haltech is operational or powers up outside of the car?

no.

allegedly the haltech was running the vehicle after the accident, but as far as i can tell, i don't know.

could it be my ground wires? there are three sensor end ground wires, and one ecu side ground wire. i grounded the sensor side to the strut tower, and then the ecu side i attached it to a bolt behind the kick panel.

could this be a problem?

Say what? there are 2 ground wires on the haltech harness that have to be grounded, the one that goes to the negative side of the battery, and the harness ground which goes to chassis ground. The ground wires that are at the sensors end dont need to be grounded, they are grounds provided for what ever sensors you need to connect that need a ground.

Also, the shielding doesnt need to be grounded, thats what the additional ground wire with the round connector is for.

Also, did you make sure you connect the gray activation wire to a 12v switched source that maintains power while cranking.

it was a plug and play harness. ill look at it some more tomarrow. it takes power from the wiper connector underneath the dash.

there where three or two ground wires inside the engine bay, and one ground wire inside the cabin.

Is it Haltech Plug in loom or something someone made for you? Why would it get power from the wiper motor and not a more proper source?

it got it from the connector inside the car underneath the dash. he made it as plug and play as possible. it was a harness he was using in his car, wrecked it, then sold it to me.

it gets switched power from there.

check. one is grounded to the chasis inside the cabin, and the one in the engine bay on the particular relay is grounded in the engine bay. this needs to go to the negative terminal on the battery?

Yes! the thick red and black wires go to the battery.

My harness has only one ground wire, but the ecu is getting power and all the ground pins are grounded. The ecu still won't communicate with my lap top..
