So Im trying to figure out how to get the correct dead times for injectors. I am running the ID725 injectors and when their spreadsheet info is added I have higher then normal VE numbers, close to 70 at idle and up to 142 under boost. What is the proper way to get the dead times right so that I can get my idle VE closer to 50-55? I have been told to set 55 in the base table in idle range and then page up the dead times until I get to the AFR I'm looking for (13.7). Is this proper or is there a better route to do this? I have confirmed everything else is correct like base fuel pressure (52psi) and all sensors has been correctly set. Most are the haltech sensors and then there is the fast reacting air temp that I got the calibration from Ludwig. Timing is spot on with the FFE hall trigger wheel. Any help is greatly appreciated.
If you're using the factory sheet for dead times and its that off then something else is wrong with your base setup - fuel pressure (right according to you), flow rate, table axis, what have you.
So this is where I'm at. Totally here to understand where I may have messed up. I went out and primed the fuel pump and this is the reading and what I have entered. Also these are the ID spreadsheet that I've entered with the axis shown here. I feel its correct but I could be wrong
And this is what my basemap looks like. Everything runs in perfect AFR and runs smooth but I'm still told its "wrong" for higher VE. I just want to understand why and how to fix it
You're not inputting the dead times in the correct map. It's vs volts, not psi. The tables are in micro seconds so you'll have to convert to milliseconds. You have to actually enable the feature to input individual injector settings and then the option to input the dead times will populate.
So I just have to flip the axis? I have volts vs psid just with volts on the side. These numbers have been converted to ms from usec. 1910usec would be 1.91ms or am I completely misunderstanding?

If there was a tuner near by that would touch a rotary I would have done that but Ive instead spent months learning and trying my best to do this myself with a decent understanding. I know I can turn that setting on and select the injectors from the list but the settings cannot be adjust so I guess I just roll with them being correct? I was previously told they are not normally correct and that I should enter them from the spreadsheet and being I could not do that when this setting is on I never tried it
Because of advances in tuning technology, your tuner doesn't need to be anywhere near you. An internet connection is all thats needed. Please do your research on these people. Finding a bad tuner is worse than making mistakes yourself.... because you have to pay them lol
If you have spent months learning to set up a base map then the actual tuning part will likely be out of reach. Odds are high you will damage or destroy your work. It is highly recommended you find a tuner. It does not take much to destroy a motor from improper settings.
Sometimes we have to concede when we are out of the bounds of our abilities. Theres nothing wrong with learning or trying to figure things out but the stakes in this situation are extremely high. This would be on the dangerous end of risk assessment. Find a tuner, have them go through it and ask questions along the way.
I guess I should rephrase what I said. I tuned my platinum ecu on this car with no issues but did it on injection time. I also tuned this one but first time using VE. I have been running the car very happily for the last few months and have even been able to up the boost from 10 psi to 14 on the big turbo with zero issues. The car runs very smooth and ive got my AFR's all looking great thru the whole range. All I want to sort out is why im 20 points too high with VE. I know it should be closer to 50-55 yet im at high 60's. I tried your suggestion of the per injector setup but the car wont even fire up. I am not completely dumb with this stuff and this is not me working on a base tune for months. The internet is just a world of stating things are wrong but amazingly no one can state why. I either hear adjust your dead times (without of course any information on how to do it properly) or you hear just find a tuner...yes I get it a tuner will have more knowledge but at this point paying someone 2k to solve that last little bit of this seems silly. If I was doing things wrong I would have cooked my motor years ago on the old ECU and hell would have cooked it in the last few months since getting the Elite, yet here we are with a strong happy motor but still no one able to tell me why my VE is a tad high. I would love a professional to look it over but the two ive talked to want like $1500-2k and they are US which with conversion really hurts the Canadian wallet.
Is it weird the car wont fire with the per injector set up on? Ive changed all the dead times and flow rates to work with 52psi fuel pressure. I want to see if this solves it
EDIT: My mistake I didnt save before loading the dead times and flow rates. So now she fires up but is still spot on where I have the VE at 69. So this changed nothing at all and car runs exactly the same. I worked out from the injector data sheets these numbers at 52psi base fuel pressure. This would be correct right?

Thats been my experience with Haltech and the ID injectors. The VE table is high but it works. The dead times seem to work well for their respective voltages. You can fudge the flow number to create an overall trim to make the VE values read whatever you want. In the end, if it runs well and is consistent in all environments, the numbers don’t matter.
