Cold weather = Harder to start

The car starts fine but it takes longer than usual, about 5-7 cranks as on warmer weather it takes 2 cranks. The E6K is not tuned yet, I set it up to a 12.7-13.0 AFR at idle, but now that is cold, once the car starts, and reaches normal temp, the idle AFR went down to 12.0-12.2. This is on a base E6K map, with a midly tune vac range under the cruise rpms (2,000 - 5,000 rpms), and a set AFR on idle of 12.7-13.0 (at least during warm weather)

Any ideas?

you will have to play with your coolant temp fuel correction maps, as well as your air temp fuel correction maps to get the afr's where you want them right off of start up.
Good Luck it is a trial and error process as you will have to do this every morning when it is cold before your car starts to warm up last winter it took me about a month to get everything dialed in for a good solid winter start up.

Actually you will need to play with your primer map if I remember correctly, it's been a while since I've played with Haltech.

You will also need to play with the coolant map but that just keeps the car idling. As the car warms up and the bar moves closer to the right, you just keep adding or taking fuel away to keep the car at a nice idle.

I used to start my car at sub zero temps and never had an issue. Really, the best way to do this is by hooking up your IAC motor. You can then set what you want the car to idle at. Once you have it hooked up, there are settings that will allow you to idle up the car (plus X RPM) when the car is cold. Once the car reaches normal operating temp (you set what temp) the car will idle back down to where you want it.

Another plus of having the IAC motor hooked up is for AC control. When you turn the AC on, the car will idle back up to where you set it rather than dropped down 300 rpms.

I'm sure if you play with your primer map and add some fuel, it will start a lot quicker.

The car needs the entire correction map spectrum to work right no matter what engine conditions are. The use of an IAC to try and "fix" this is also subjected to how well mapped the tables are, because if you half *** the tuning and compensation and expect the IAC to cover you will cause more problems with runing later on.

The best way to get the best results is to tune the engine right, with no IAC, then after the car runs and drives good you go in with the IAC and make it perfect. This way the IAC and the Haltech have less of a workout when they you run the car.

It's really not that complicated.

Primer map - starting.
Coolant map - stay running
IAC - fine tuning idle

Update!

After playing with the coolant maps for a while, I wasn't really getting anywhere nor helping the issue. I then reverted to the base map, and started playing with the primer map, WOW!

The car starts much faster on the cold weather, it is not perfect yet, but so far I've cut the cranking\start up time by a half, at least!
