With this LIM you use all of the OEM TII stuff and your NA block..

C Ludwig (?) did a similar project for one of his customers and was running NA intakes (aux port area was cut and welded), FMIC, Haltech and put down 253whp@8psi.

i already have both uim and lim from s4 TII i was just curious to if the na tb would work, but if not i would just get the TII one with throttle cable, which sounds like what i got to do. but i do have some questions. Tell me what im missing from my list of planned items. I have s4 gxl just as fyi with complete suspension done to every bushing. with wide offset 17'' 5Zigens FN01RC with full exhause except header cuz planning turbo, with apexi N1 single outlet. Please tell me what you think of this list:

engine rebuilt and ported
new clutch
emissions, air pump, ps(rack and pinion gear installed), ac all removed
TII uim lim ported to match
5th and 6th port sleeves removed
TII fuel rail with either 720cc or 1000cc injectors not sure yet
TII tb
TII ecu with rtek 2.1 (fuel & timing tuning capability)
TII front cover w/baffle plate
TII maf or afm
TII throttle cable
air/fuel guage with sensor
Boost guage with sensor
ss autochrome Turbo manifold with super T4 and 40mm wastegate
FMIC and BOV (not sure on one i want yet)
255lph walbro fuel pump
new driveshaft and trans debating on whether TII or NA(cuz i heard they are
same internal bearings and gears just different casing

Goal is to run 10+ psi with around 300hp

Please let me know your thoughts and experiences with similar setups. Anything is appreciated, and i do not really wanna swap whole TII setup in just cuz I wanna be different and would like to take the more difficult route just because I like challenges. But please express anything. except rude comments, those really irritate me.

You're missing the TII MAP but other than that it looks good. Some people have had problems with the SSAC manifolds, you might want to look into that and see if it'll be worth it.

For the OP, I just came across this:

https://www.rx7club.com/time-slips-dyno-128/check-its-tuned-801967/

Guy is running 18 psi from a T70 on 9.7:1 rotors with 100 octane. Needless to say, 12psi on the stock turbo with water and methanol injection will still be on the safe side with the car tuned. With boost over 9psi the ECU does nothing for timing retard under boost so you can either get an RTEK 1.x and an SAFC (~$330) or pay ~$450 for an RTEK 2.1 and have full control.

yeah the t70 was actually my first choice so ill probably just go back to that. and for the tb i thought i read somewhere that it could be flipped around, but guess i read wrong. Will the rtek 1.x SAFC be just as good as rtek 2.1? Can you control timing from rtek 1.x SAFC setup? I read that tuning the timing is crucial when turboing the NA.

i got a couple more questions.

if i run a stock turbo, does it matter if it is s4 or s5?

any suggestions to the other parts of the engine?(ignition, oil, cooling, fuel)

Yes it does, the S4 will fit fine with a 2.5" block to manifold spacer and a ~0.2+" spacer on the turbo flange. You could double gasket the connection if you wanted. The S5 will have clearance problems with the frame due to the extended wastegate area on the turbine housing and manifold design. You can't make it work with the stock manifold, there is no way unless you cut the frame. (https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=808335)--more info.

If you plan on using the S4 turbo you better have access to a die grinder or a cheap machine shop because you'll need to port the wastegate from 16mm to 35mm+. I ran an S4 with a 32mm and still had boost creep, although restrictions in the intake/exhaust side will reduce boost creep. I was running a 3" DP and 2.5" IC piping to a front mounted stock TMIC. I've moved onto an S5 turbo now and ported it slightly with a dremel to a combined wastegate diamater of 53mm, haven't ran the car on it yet. When spending time and money on the wastegate, don't forget that you can get a cheap external gate from ebay and have a machine shop weld it onto your spacer...its a much better setup.

Ignition: some people run BUR9EQ in leadings and trailings to take advantage of the colder heat range. Coils/wires are the same.

Oil: same, might want to add some heat shielding to the oil line near the turbine housing.

Cooling: if you're running a front mount it will be choking the radiator for air. You might want to upgrade or run ducting to the radiator.

Fuel: 550x4 for 8psi and 550/720 for 12psi. FD pump can support 300whp, upgrade to Walbro 255 for more flow.

The turbo will add a lot of heat in the engine bay. Be sure to use proper heat shielding for wiring, oil/coolant lines to minimize heat transfer.

what if i was to get a custon turbo manifold made to bring the turbo forward a little more? would this work?

and i plan on running a v-mount setup for the intercooler and radiator.

so what do you think of these plans?

Yup a custom manifold would work great. But spending $500+ on a manifold for the shitty old 70's technology stock turbo wouldn't really be worth it unless maybe you were keeping it for a while. The V-mount is a great setup.

i was thinking maybe a bnr turbo upgrade.
and the cost of the manifold isnt gonna be too bad, got a family member making it. lol

another question. what about timing? what do i have to do?

Ah. Personally if I had access to someone that could make a custom manifold I would go full T4. It gives you much more room in turbo selection in the long run, bigger hotside and external wastegate. Unless you are only autocrossing this car you WILL want a bigger turbo later.

Timing depends on ECU. With a BNR upgrade you can probably get by without an EMS. I run stock timing with the stock TII ECU and sensors running 8psi. The stock pressure sensor retards timing under boost up to 9psi. Above that is fuel cut and no more retard. An RTEK 1.7 will give you timing retard above 9psi, remove your fuel cut, have a 720cc secondary injector preset (no need for fuel controller), and some other little stuff. S5 TII people are stuck (unless you want to run an NA ECU w/ the 2.0) because there is no 2.0 out yet. So either full EMS or an RTEK 1.x + SAFC II. You could also retard your timing using the CAS a few degrees if you plan to run high boost but you will lose a lot of power. Be sure to use 93!

Also before you plan anything unless this will be a DD I suggest you research E85 conversions, 105 octane for less than the price of 87. Run more timing and more boost.
