posted this in 3rd gen section but maybe this is a better place for it.

so what happened is today i planned on getting the shortblock assembled, 20 minutes into it, i gouged the surface of the front iron when one of the alignment dowels slipped out of the front rotor housing. here are some pictures. im concerned that it will affect the compression as the gouge does have some depth to it and the sideseal will pass the area at the point, im guessing, where compression is 75-80% completed or so.

lol, forget that the "gouge" even exists! Do, however, check VERY closely to see if there is a tiny "high spot" around the edge of your "gouge" ---more like a dimple, honestly. BTW, the sideseal passes over it soo fast, that it won't affect a single thing.

is it as simple as getting rid of any portions that are raised? the indent wont hurt compression ?

Test it with a step meter. I think that is what it is called.

it has some pretty good depth to it. maybe paper thickness?

Use a flat stone and varsol or wd40. The finishing stones that I use will continue grabbing at the craterwall till it is perfectly flat. Then the rotor seals will think it is just a very small port.
