sounds like you forgot to connect the Alternator wiring, maybe it just went faulty.

I'm having similar troubles. My battery is still located under the hood, I have a brand new alternator and the battery checks out just fine. Apparently I have a faulty wire somewhere. I'm not sure either.

i tried to add a few more grounds thinking that might of been the problem but didn't help.. im going to try and ad a line strait from the alt back to the battery + and hope this will give it the current for the charge it needs.. im also starting to think my electrical load is to much for the stock S4 alt (think its a 60 amp) now that i have added the E-fan along with the stock lights and so on but i don't have a radio.
i had the system tested and the battery droped down to 9.oms on its second load test and the alt tested out fine but after 6 hours i went into my 4th battery..

what size of alt do you have? 100A, 180A, etc etc... cuz it sounds like you need a bigger gauge for your alt..

90A is what I believe the second generation alt puts out.

The only time mine started doing as you're describing is when the ground from the battery to the block was crappy.

Bigger wiring carries less ohms, remember?

Also, check out your alternator belt. If that sucker's even a LITTLE loose, it'll drop just enough incomin voltage to make your car go kaput.

Example: My ****'s running at 12.2v, instead of the 14+ it should be at. This tells me one thing: check the alternator. Turns out that my belt is getting loose, so I went and bought one yesterday, and get to put it on, today.

<shrug> Speaking from my position, that's all.

Have you checked the voltage at the battery with the car running and stopped? Was the voltage different? If the voltage was higher with the engine running the alternator is working at least somewhat. If the voltage is lower with the car running then you aren't charging for one reason or another. FCs frequently have the battery drained by a headlight that won't go down so check your headlights. You also need to buy a battery charger so you don't have to keep swapping batteries. Also enlist the help of someone that knows electrical systems. If I were local I'd help, but there is over 2000 miles between us.

i was told to get a test light or something and put it between the neg. post and the neg. terminal and if the light comes on theirs a short.. he says to pull out each fuse one at a time until the light goes out or something in that order and when the light goes out that's where the short is supposed to be.. .. i think the alt is charging because i disconnected the battery while it was running and the motor kept running.

i think its from the fan and lights and the ALT being the weaker of the three years its just not having much to charge the battery back. if this is the case i can get a S6 ALT but i dont know what to do for it to work with this harness so i guess ill be stuck there

Refer to the wiring diagram on this link http://ausrotary.dntinternet.com/for...r=asc&start=20 guaranteed your wiring is incorrect also when you change to a S6 you will need this information. Alternators changed in 1989 models and up and the wiring is different.
