I'm still keeping an eye on this. Will you do the first prototype and test fit before ordering bulk parts? I'm not 100% sure I will pull the trigger but I am pretty tempted.

Dan your sources are correct LOL. Sources tell me they fit damn well without any additional hardware. could possible use slightly longer retainer ring bolts, though I think when they get tightened down the tabs will just bend a tad and you wont even need longer bolts.

Thanks to Dave (red_dragon) for offering up his car for test fitment. We installed a set of lights in his FD earlier today as well.

and an example of the light output:

don't worry, we wont start producing them until we have enough people actually paid up and "in" the GB. This list is an interest thread to try to gauge if the GB will sink or float. We're looking at about three weeks to start collecting payments. If we fall seriously short (like only 8 people) We'll either have to raise the price, refund peoples money, or possibly consider hand-making the backing shrouds which will look kinda fugly and lumpy (though it would be the back of the lights that no one sees, and the front and operation of them would look the same).

I can't believe this post was started in Jan and I am JUST seeing this (by accident from a reply you did in another area of the forums) This sounds interesting and will most likely be adding my name to the list once I read this entire post and finalyze my decision

We should be opening the official GB in a day or so. I'm still not sure if we will run it in this thread, or bump over to a new FC HID specific thread, but I'll be posting a link in here at the very least along with PMing everyone on the list if we move threads.

FB/Miata

The FB / Miata prototype is finalized. I've test fit it in my miata so far. All that was needed was a little trimming on the inner bucket, and longer adjustment bolts to push the light out a tad as the projector extends a ways back. I have a local guy that I can hopefully meet up with shortly to test these on the FB.

Don't mind the paper in the middle... its hard to get a shot of these from head on at full intensity without blocking some light.

Just ONE of the projectors:

Same projectors on Dan's FD:

I'm personally thrilled with the aesthetics, but the point of all of this is max functionality, and the lighting output is un-believable. With these lights in, my visibility in the miata is on par with new mercedes, lexus, and BMW's. Plus I happen to like the stock popups.

and I can't remember if I've posted this here yet or not (it's in the FD thread).

Ultimately the best solution would be an unbiased review of the lights in the 1st gen section from someone who would be willing to test fit the prototype set. Hopefully that will happen if/when I can meet up with one of the local guys. I've sent a few PM's and responses to local guys but I'm still waiting for responses, and at this point we still don't have someone committed for a test fit (and or unbiased review/pictures if they would be willing to do that).

That's the plan. I'm looking for a test fitter, and hopefully by the time we test them out we'll be about ready to go forward with them. I think we have enough people to do the NB/miata lights, so I'm gonna say its a go (assuming we don't run into problems at the test-fit stage).

We've tried our best to get the price down as low as possible, and if we run the FC and FB GB together (and have close to 15 in each category) we should be able to meet the $799 mark. If there is less interest, then the price either needs to go up or we have to build the rear shields by hand (which will suck for me to have to hand lay all that fiberglass, and it wont come out as pretty as a production grade rear cover). But no one would ever see that... that's the backup plan. So it looks like this thing will happen one way or another.

So the tentative price per kit (FC or FB) will be $799 + shipping
(and we can do RHD sets for no extra charge if you require RHD units.)
