Tec-ii
Anyone know anything about TEC-II for streetability purposes? Good to use? Hard to use? What are your experiences with it? Should i get something else? What do to what to do?
I have a couple of friends with both the Haltech E6K and the TEC2 installed in their rotaries and 2JZ Supras, from what I hear from all of them the TEC2 has a much better drivebility and is more accurate due to the fact that it's ignition wheel has so much more teeth(I think it's 64) than the Haltech trigger wheels. Plus since the TEC2 is based on a linear system, it is easier to tune. I have driven cars with both these systems and it's just my opinion that for accuracy and driveability the TEC2 is the way to go. For all out power both systems are the same, but for drivability and streetability, I think the TEC2 is the better unit. Just to add a side note the TEC2 offers a cleaner install, and in the long run both units will cost the same due to the fact that the TEC2 runs it's own ignition coils, with the Haltech you have to purchase an ignition system.
I would say:
first place belongs to : MOTEC
second : AUTRONIC
third : HALTECH
i would get either of these systems, but thats just my opinion.
And guess what, all these ECU's are made in Australia!
I for one have a haltech

On the Supra and RX-7 you don't need a trigger wheel if you're using the E6-K. On the Supra the crank and cam sensors work perfect with no problems and extreme accuracy. The same for the rx-7. I would agree that the TEC II has a much better trigger wheel than the one Haltech used on their earlier designs but the new ECU's don't require a trigger wheel for most set-ups.
Also you don't need to purchase a new ignition set-up with the Haltech, it fires the stock stuff and in my opinion that would give a much better installation look than the TECII remote coils and ignition wires setup. On the Supra when using the Haltech you don't have to remove the coil-on-plug setup so that would be a plus. Also on the Fd you allready have a very tight engine bay so the last thing you want to worry about is where to put the TECII's remote coils and ignition wires not to mention the heat it would have to deal with.
When both systems are tuned properly by a good tuner they both offer good driveability and power. The TECII might be a little easier to tune than the Haltech but the Haltech offers a lot more accessories and features needed to control stuff on todays vechicles and to me it is a lot more accurate in the tuning department.

I'll probably go with an E6K in my other car. So then I'll know for sure which is better.

Electromotive tec 2
Come on Crispeed your stating opinion. We all have them. Nothing wrong with that. I have seen it many times on these forums. I belong to a few of them. I own many chevy v8 cars and boats and its the same thing there. Accel DFI vs Fast XFI vs Motec and big stuff and so on. I also own 2 dune buggys with 2nd gen 13bs that are damn near Identical. One running a tec 2 and one running a haltec f9 and a dissy. I cant even find a software program to adjust my haltec since it was dos based and windows xp vista or 7 cant run to my knowledge that dos program correctly. I have tuned the tec 2 numerous times. Its way different than anything else and seems greek at first. But after a little playing with it its very simple. Its effective, primitive but effective. Lets get down to why I replied to this thread. The motor that runs the tec2 runs MUCH STONGER under 3500 RPMS. It is MUCH MORE RESPONSIVE. RUNS FAR MORE CRISP. Spark plugs last twice as long before there toast. Both cars have excellent tunes and run great. Don't think I am ******* the haltec because I am not. I think it is a great ems too. My guess is the crank trigger and coil set up on the tec 2. The dissy with 2 MSD 6AL boxes with 2 MSD Blaster 2 coils just does not have the spark energy until higher RPMS are reached. So if you putt around town or our case in the sand and don't mash on the throttle to clean it out often be prepared to buy many spark plugs. One thing about the haltec is that it seems to be very reliable. It has a decent wire harness and weather pac connectors, unlike the tec 2. It also has a couple fuses and relays that will go before any damage to anything else occurs and will shut the engine off. The tec 2 has a number of things I hate about it. Mainly the way its wired. Those stupid green plugs on the sides can make you rip your hair out! All it takes is a little vibration a screw loose or some moisture to cause a vital sensor or injector to not work properly this can cause major problems. So much care is needed when wiring the tec 2 and also placement away from water or oil. The Tec 2 has worked great for the price. There are much better ECUs now for the rotary. Pantera EFI is what my Tec 2 will probably hit the garbage can for. Biggest reason being very local support. The guy that designed and built it and many other ecus is located a few miles from me. Picks up his phone and stands behind his stuff. As soon as I have a some more money. BTW The newer haltecs might have better spark when running a diffrent ignition. I don't know. Just stating what I have and how it works. And if you have a MSD anything get familiar with a volt meter and make sure your alternator is working, because if you fall below 12.5 volts for any reason with a MSD your fucked!

Do you realize you bumped a thread that is almost 10 years old?
Since then you have a TEC3, TEC3R and now the TEC GT lol.
