Buckey's Pro-Am Build: '87 Mazda RX7 TurboII
Gearing up to leave for Long Beach tomorrow. Registered for the Slammed Society Showcase, so bringing my FC out to dump in the show (pretty much paid for tickets and got free in show parking how i look at it) while it gets some photos for the sponsors.
Hot Line Performance styling has been rubbing off on me...

Hopefully if we can get the haltech sorted out this 2nd trip @ Steve Singh's new shop Rotary Lab, now that the engine harness is rewired i'll look into driving balcony before heading back to vegas. really looking forward to getting it running again. these issues definitely take their toll on ones mind set...

Since i've been lagging on updates here goes:

Long Beach was rad. Witnessed Daigo Saito take out pretty much every dude in FD with his 2JZ/NOS/GT45 Lexus SC430 except for JTP who took top spot! Dude is charging for number 1 this season. Couldn't happen to a more deserving dude.
I also went back to Steve Singh's new shop in Montclair - Rotary Lab to get my Haltech checked out, and the engine harness repaired. The office looked a little something like this:

After a solid 9hrs of switching everything over from parts cars, back probing harnesses, and both of us swearing back and forth to each-other out of sheer frustration we finally switched the ECU (for the 2nd time) and loaded my old map into it, and it worked. We started replacing all the old/questionable parts back onto the car, and basically everything was good minus the ECU. When we first swapped it, it must've not fully loaded the map, because it wouldn't work at all... Steve absolutely busted *** on the car, and i can't be happier that he cracked the code and got it dialed again - as always. His new shop is pretty boomin' with customer work which is nice to see for a dude who has always been putting out solid work.

I was able to sneak a cruise on the streets of Long Beach in my FC. Such a rad place.

dropped by the @Dstroyr Booth during FD LBC

Also saw this cool guy sitting in the Exedy Booth during set-up. So rad seeing a car i painted in a booth at FD. Jtp/John Jimison are rad for hollering at me. hopefully no one saw the runs from spraying single stage like base coat, in the dark :/ hahaha damnit we forgot to wetsand those out before...

Mounted up the twin oil coolers thanks to Hot Line Performance for the help!

Made a pretty cool Carbon Kevlar vent delete after seeing some cool things at Hot Line and getting the hook up on some left over scraps.

that place made me hate how gay the inside of my car looked, so i went to town. lol

Now that we're up to speed, it's almost that time to load up again, and head to XDC RD.1 this weekend, and put in work! Going to feel rad driving again! Hope to see some peeps out there!

Cars running great tho! Second video is nice bro...smooth
Dang im lagging on this thing.... ended up making XDC AZ. sat out all of practice to get the car up to tech requirements. went to qualify, and first run, somehow/luckily managed to sneak into top 16. Struggled with the cutting out issue to the left. ended up only doing a few practice runs before top 16 to see if we could pinpoint it. ended up getting it a little better by adding a sock to the fuel pump (despite it being fully submerged and still breaking up)
the car was so fast. felt amazing. maybe 'cause i wasn't psyching myself out thanks to some good advice. got paired up with forrest in top 16 and ended up miss-shifting 3rd because we almost smashed before even getting to the first initiation zone. laid down a good run hoping he would screw up. my lead run i dug out on him, but still couldn't get throttle down through the most important judged section letting him sink in. dude kills it. ended up winning both events. BUT seeing how my car was walking his 600hp 2j car kinda bummed me out because i couldn't gain any feedback from the runs....

2nd qual run was promising but no dice... entry was cool - then zeroed out. faster than first run but still slow.

Since I've been MIA with the car build in Colorado, here are a few photos of some of the stuff that went down up there.
Pulled my new 13b-REW out of Grid-1 Motorsports Pikes Peak/Drift FC RX7 with the help of the shop owner, Don, as well as the old 13b-t from my personal FC.

Took the chassis to the car wash, sprayed out the 3 seasons worth of oil, dirt, and tire debris that was everywhere to make it easier to work on.
Made a mount based off the Grid-1 FC, and mounted it up with JR's help

Pulled the Intakes off, and started taping it up to paint it Satin Black, and noticed how huge the Irons were ported

1 thing cool about the S6 motor is the fact that they have a lot more vacuum ports, and coolant lines when compared to the standard S4 13b-t. The only downside - blocking off the ones you're not using. I must've made about 6 block off plates the first night.

Got rid of the stock wiring that i had tucked under my V-mount, and made a custom mount for the battery, and remote kill/power distribution block. So much cleaner inside the car with the Painless 8 Circuit Fused switch Panel, and race wiring.

Getting in on that Instagram cool kid hype. Just kidding, but here are some of the pics i tossed on Instagram.

I made some actual weld on tabs to the bash bar to mount the oil coolers as opposed to the last bolt on bracket idea which was cool, but not ideal. welded those guys up, and the finished result

Playing around with where to mount this thing. Originally i wanted it in the glove box, but Don brought up a good point about having to access it, in a seated/harnessed position. Was thinking of doing it on the upper cross bar on the cage, and running the wiring down, and Don pointed out a better spot on the cage door bar (at the floor) beside the seat which i really liked. But then got to thinking about there not being any weather stripping anywhere, and the fact that someone could potentially t-bone that spot (ironic huh) and could break the panel so i went with this spot for the time being. me breaking my $100 S5 center vents also added to this decision.... lol Ultimately I would like to build a carbon/carbon kevlar switch panel mount like the HKS JGTC/drift cars

Pretty much where I'm at right now. Was going to redo the i/c charge pipe to this i/c core, but i swooped a larger core @ Hot Line Performance and will be using that, with custom end tanks, as well as cutting out the bent core support and doing some dimple plate mounts for everything.

I've always had a pretty sketchy car, with some things either being on point, or no where near. for once, it's very close to being a seriously competitive car, and look rad (key part for me) thanks to Grid-1's efforts, so i am breaking the habit of rushing to make things happen. Don @ Grid-1 Motorsports helped a bunch with a lot of things throughout, and I'm beyond excited to get it going, and drive it. Thanks man! Hopefully be all squared away asap, and make another trip up for tuning/testing in the next few weeks.

For those of you who haven't seen their shop, see what they're all about @ http://www.grid1motorsport.com/team-and-car/
Havent had really any updates... Needing someone to leand a hand wiring up the AEM ecu, and trying to gather funds to pay off the motor + cover overhead at my shop has been mentally taxing. Ive missed both top drift rounds, and will be missing the 3rd round of vegas pro-am this coming weekend aswell...
Im hoping to have it running by FD Vegas but im not expecting it to happen, or if ill even drIve due to not having any seat time this year.
Ive had a friend helping out in his spare time. Today he pretty much got all the chassis wiring finished up. Im really only needing to figure out this engine management or move back to haltech, and have some fab work done on the itercooler piping. If anyone has leads on a cheap haltech, or can help get this thing running (and do it) ill legitimately give up the side of my car for the renainder of the season.
Im desperate to drive, and to the point of wanting to sell it all to get out of debt... I havent had internet in months so ill try to get some pics up on here soon

I feel you! I haven't spun my wheels in over a year! Everything is out of my control. We are on the 4th motor! Now that justin's season has started, I don't know if the next engine will be done before the end of formula d.
I'm at the point of feeling like just selling everything and buying a boat and going fishing everyday.

^ dude... there's nothing wrong with your car man. All you need is a good rebuilt short block. And a good tune from a good reputable tuner. If you can learn to do it yourself.. even better. You'll save more. It just seems like your running into problem after problem....but they're all because I feel like you havent taken the necessary time to set your car up correctly. No offense in any way.. But for one.. I could have told you your motor was going to blow... and blow quick with the amount of boost you had tuned to on that last tune. No one in their right mind boosts that much without water/meth injection on a rotary... If you want it to last my advice would be the following.
Stick with your haltech
Get a nice fresh stock port/med street port motor
Water/methanol injection is a MUST on any track fd unless your below 12 lbs of boost and dont push it
Get someone who knows how to tune the car to make descent power without turning up the boost sky high.
And lastly.. start reading why other peoples motors have blown on the track. You'd be surprise how much you could learn from this forum. Selling your car to start over would be a huge mistake. Have you forgotten how much time/money/effort you've put into it? Your a final step away from having a car that you can compete with reliably. I'm rooting for you.. just stick with it man.

Its not that im an indecisive kid. Im an idiot who makes stupid choices, trying to have a solid setup and losing sight on just driving...
If i werent in this position an my car were runnig id give no ***** about anything but thinking of having to come up on $5k to get to drve it/call it your own is a tough pill to swallow ya know? I appreciate the advice, and i was pretty much right there but i sold my water/meth to get to cali to get it aligned and now im just stuck in a rut.. Everyone has probably been in a spot similar to this with their cars and got through it. Mine was 3yrs ago when i had went through 6 seperate motor builds in 1 year with a stock turbo......
I went through the same thing with my LS1 FC build. Got to a point where the money, time, and labor were starting to catch up with profits and had to sell/part everything just to get back to zero. It sucks thinking now that I could have just rebuilt the 13B that was in it and caged the car for way less than what I put into it going almost V8 :/ Should have thought more about driving and competing than being cool haha. Lessons learned the hard way...
Now I'm building an FD shell about a year later and am taking it slowly, step-by-step. Making thought out decisions instead of acting impulsively.
