Yeah, If for some reason they can clear my car through customs before the week-end I will be flying down on friday and driving the car back eather friday afternoon or first thing Saturday morning. If I do have it back in time I will definatly bring it to the meet. But if it isn't cleared by the week-end I might still come to the meet, but only in my truck.

And Vince I highly doubt that they will ship it to that coast, but it is hard to say. And if they did ship to that coast it would be amazingly expensive. It would probubly be cheaper to transport the car across the land.

And thanks donz. I can't wait for the car to get here. these 17days or so are going to go by soo slow. haha.

Congrats! Your car is the ENFINI Type R edition...

You should rail your car to your home province; it's much safer and cost effective.

Not to stir things up, im sure you guys read up on your JDM cars a lot, but, his car is a "EFINI" not "ENFINI".
The other way the term was spelled was "INFINI" wich was used on the second generation Infini IV RX-7.

and for sh*ts and giggles, its pronounced "on-fi-nee" for those not aware....

cheers

*edit*
I just noticed your title read "PURCHASED - 1992 RX-7 Anfini". Thought id give some more history on this.

Your car is a Efini model, but could have been purchased from the "Anfini" dealership.
In Japan the term Infini was not used/spoken properly by people. to make it easyer for people to pronounce Infini correctly (on-fi-nee), they came up with the name "Anfini" wich they gave to one of there dealer networks.

yeah i realised that after I made the thread. I felt kind of dumb but no one else picked up on it. lol

How much do you think it would cost to rail the car back to alberta? I have an appointment at a rotary shop in van to inspect my car before I drive it home. If all checks out to be okay I was planning on driving it home, but if not then I was going to get it shipped.

Rail from BC to Alberta should be a couple of hundred dollars... no more than $500....

Rail is a good option but be carefull what carrier you use. Avoid SeaRail if at all possible.

What would be a good rail company to use? I'll see what kind of shape the car is in, and after my inspection I will decide weather or not its worth the risk or not. Thanks for the suggestions, this helps alo and gives me a good plan B.

I just got an e-mail confirming shipping information. The ETD is May 2nd and the ETA is May 17th. I was told that shipping only takes 10 days, and here they are saying 15 days. But oh well at least the car is leaving on the 2nd.

It will arrive eventually. I wouldn't count on a solid date, there's ALWAYS Delays. At least you bought it this time of year, when the new car models arn't quite being shipped in hordes yet.

Yeah I think thast the only reason that I could get my car through ro/ro shipping. I'm not really counting on it getting here by a certain date. I've been waiting since december for the car so I'm getting a little impatient but oh well. Once it gets here it should be worth the wait. I hope at least. lol.

Smile Congrats!

Good to see a person picking up a FD, hope everything goes well. However just thought I would say to everyone that you should buy the car as you see it. Do not buy a Japanese car with low kilometres and base it on that alone, as Japanese export vehicles have been known to roll back odometers quite extensively. Best of luck on the new purchase!

The vessel will arrive on the 17th and probably be completely unloaded that day too. If you can you should get your paperwork to your customs broker asap, the most important being the BOL if it needs to be surrendered, all other docs can just be faxed in. To surrender a BOL you have to sign the original copy and mail it to your broker or the port.

Fraser Warfs has been a bit of a pain lately and you may get stuck with a decent sized storage fee if they do not want to release your car in a timely manner. Unfortunately not much can be done about this

I'll see what I can do about the BOl. Do I need to have it signed by me before the car is released? My exporter is curriering all of the paperwork directly to my customs broker so they should have the paper work nice and early. I wasn't aware that I needed to have any papers signed before the car is released from customs. But I guess it would make some sence.

I dont know your situation exactly but if the shipment is in your name and the BOL was not surrendered yet you will have to sign the BOL and send it to the broker or port. However, if the BOL was surrendered at port in Japan then you do not have to sign it and the customs broker can submit all the paperwork to CBSA without your involvement, this is probably the most likely situation for you but I would check with the exporter and/or your customs broker to be sure, its 15$ a day storage at port last time i checked and shipping paperwork around can take a week or more in the worst case scenario.

My customs broker was saying that it should take around 2 or 3 days to get the car through customs. He said that it would take a couple days longer if my car was getting shipped in a container. I'll be sure to e-mail my customs broker and exporter to see about the BOL. Thanks for the info.

Hey there ..... I have had good luck with Allied Transport should you choose to ship the car out to Calgary. They are a truck carrier and have been careful and professional.
Allied Systems (Canada) Co
1005 Derwent Way
Delta, BC V3M 5R4
Carol Sullivan

(604) 525-3321

Just a heads up though .... Expect your FD to have fowled plugs when it arrives at Fraser Warfs. The transport personel may use the gas peddle liberally to get it started if the battery is run down (likely situation).

You will need to get it started before any shipping company will transport it. All the companies I've come across (Hansen's, Allied, Searail) are refusing "dead" vehicles. Hansen's is refusing all JDM units. If the car is "dead" you may have to book a tow to the Rotary shop from the warf. Your customs broker should be able to do this.

btw We've got sister cars .... should meet up when yours gets here

Sean

I'll be sure to let you know when I get it home. I'm looking forward to meeting other RX-7 owners. I haven't owned a 7 for 6 years or so so it will be nice to meet other owners again.

Thanks for the contact info. I hope that I don't have to send the car back on a truck but its always nice to have the info just incase if I have to. I only have just over 2 weeks left. I'm getting excited.

See if you can grab some DOT headlights from somewhere. You will need those for the OOP. Also you will need to hook up DRLs ... I can give you a hand with that as I just completed mine. Hoping I don't have to hook up the reflectors to light up as may be required for compliance. Have my OOP on Friday so wish my FD luck!

GL with that man. Where did you get your DOT head lights from? I'm hoping that my car won't have such a hard time passing OOP since my budy owns a mechanic shop in town. His shop can't do OOP inspections but he knows a shop that can and hes going to send me there. It probubly won't help much but we will see. I'll be sure to let you know if I need help with the DRLs, thanks for the offer.

Great thread...thanks for the info, everyone. Good luck Football22.

May the currents be favorable and heading east...

On a side note...as far as the DRL's are concerned, could you just wire a switch or directly from a circuit 'ignition on' to the parking lights or headlights, or are they more specific as to how to install the DRL circuit?

Will find out for sure how the DRLs should be done by Friday. I purchased a DRL controller that runs the front parking lights at 9V to prolong bulb life as they will be used much more now. It's a little hokey but the controller is activated by wrapping one of the wires around a spark plug wire. I will take a few pictures if this passes inspection on Friday.

Check www.puma-access.com for the Hamsar 45020 DRL Controller. I bought mine through JC Whitney but you will save a bit purchasing through Puma.

There are many ways to add DRLs to a vehicle that was never equipped with them. You can purchase a DRL kit that usually contains a module or relay. You can trigger the relay that controls the headlights with an 12v source from the ignition (single wire method, works but not recommended). Or you can buy a 12v relay and fuse to trigger the headlight relay, this is the easiest method that is also safe.

Most shops that will perform an OOP will also perform the modification for a nominal charge if you dont want to do it yourself.

You will also need to wire in a relay between the switch on the clutch pedal and the ignition before the OOP as well. Japanese vehicles usually have a switch on the clutch pedal but it is not connected to the igniton to prevent starting the vehicle without depression the clutch pedal. Im not positive if the FD's will have this switch or if you will need to install one, I have one arriving this sunday and will verify after it is picked up.
