The master rebuild kit will have everything you need. At least, as far as seals/springs and o-rings go. Intake and exhaust gaskets won't be included......along with their peripheral gaskets (MOP, AVC, etc)

Edit: Just looking it back over, it *might* come with external gaskets? Maybe phone and find out...my FC kit did not however.

Thanks for the link. How long did it take them to ship the kit over to you?

Personally I would go with pineapple racing. While you are at it you could replace the oil control rings at the same time (not a bad idea, but deffinately measue the spec).

Don't worry it's only $1500 american.

http://www.pineappleracing.com/index...PROD&ProdID=44

Personally I would go with pineapple before atkins, but it's your decision. I would go the extra mile and get everything proper OEM with tried and tested heavy duty water seals from pineapple.

Viton oil control rings are touch and go, and there is mixed reviews of aftermarket apex seals (lets not start this again...). Simpily put, OEM is tried tested and abused, there is guys running over 600 hp on stock apex seals...

I'm going to be calling around and shopping around tomorrow so I will see what all of the costs are. I will see what each kit has to offer and then I will go from there. I'm not going to know everything that I need until tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about your need to rebuild...

Not all JDM FD's are bad; there a lot good and bad cars in Japan; alot of importers/exporters try to get the cheapest car possible to maximize their profit and offer cars at a low price...

Good, unabused cars are available if you spend the money to get something good in the first place... But like all used cars; unexpected repairs do happen and should be included in the budget... You should always have your JDM car inspected prior to purchase... your importer/exporter should be able to arrange this for you.

I personally like the JDM cars because they are low kilometer, rust free and usually have expensive JDM parts on it.

Just my $0.02.... Thanks! Mitch

I want to apologize. I have no right to rag on another fellow FD owner. I totally forgot when I was younger and I would've done anything to own a FD.

More power to you, forgive what I wrote in haste and enjoy your FD. RHD, or LHD all FD's are amazing machines. Also, I went to Cali to get mine, so what's the difference between going to Japan where they were born right?

Again, apologizes for being a dick. (3 Apologies for probably 3 really assholish posts by me..)

I guess I forgot that enthusiasm (FD FEVER!) I had before I had my FD's, so who am I to **** in someone's cereal right? And I forgot my own sig, 'They still make money, they don't make FD's'.

Thanks for the appologies ehos. I also appolagize for some of my comments. That week-end was one of the worst week-ends for me in a while. Between **** going sideways at work on me at the same time as me blowing a engine in the FD. I really wasn't the happiest camper around. Hopefully one day we can all meet up and drink some beers together.

Well I just purchased all of my engine parts yesterday and am shipping them off to Vancouver today. As long as if my parts get there by early monday I should be able to get my car by mid next week.

I already have my AST and a few other parts here waiting for the car to come home. My parts should be arriving tomorrow. Since I have a crazy busy week I will probubly be flying down to van next week to get the car.

Hey football, since I sold off my 1st gen RX I don't frequent here as much but since I want to get another RX (esspecially FD) someday I still stop in from time to time. Anyways, this is the first I've heard since it started the trek on the boat.

I'm really sorry to hear about the troubles, but I think you're really doing a good job focusing on the positives. I'm not sure if staying off it would have really helped. Maybe but who knows. IMO the seal could have blown on any car, and had it blown on a LHD you'd be into it for 6-7K more than you are anyways, so that initial savings on the RHD is still there. I think if I were to import one, I might just pencil in a rebuild right in Vancouver off the boat - peace of mind that way.

The fact it's so low miles, rust free, and no sun damage makes it still a pretty good deal IMO. I hope you can make it out to the July meet 'cuz I'm definitely looking forward to checking it out.

And thanks so much for documenting all your costs so thoroughly and honestly. You took a lot of grief that you could have avoided by just disappearing or lying... Thanks for that, honestly.

Football,

I haven't read this thread of late so I am sorry to hear about your troubles. But I must give you props for being a stand up guy and giving out all the info you have, even when you knew it was going to attract flamers. This thread is a great resource to those considering importing an FD.

I've said previously that I can't shift with my left hand, which is one of the reasons I wouldn't buy a RHD FD. But that said I think a RHD FD will be far more collectible in the distant future. I am speaking of the later examples that were never offered in Canada. But that said I think that there is an argument that any RHD is the purist form of RX7 since it was built in Japan for the domestic Japanese market to consume. It would be interesting to know whether the prototypes of the 3rd gen were designed around a RHD or LHD or Both.

I agree, whether you're for or against JDM you've provided a lot of information to everybody at your expense. Props to you. Now get er fixed up and take some pics so we can see.

Judging by the JDM downpipe, I would say LHD. But seriously I'm sure it was designed for both markets.

Thanks everyone. It's nice to hear that people appreciate everything, also thanks for the posative words. There has been a little snag in everything. I guess that the clutch that I was given was for a TII, and the difusers on the injectors were broken. So I have to go and get another clutch and ship that one down. It's a pretty big pain in the *** since I live in Airdrie and rx-7 specialties is right by downtown Calgary. But oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do. I have a feeling I won't get the car next week since my buddy is getting married the following week-end and I'm in the wedding party so I have all that crap to deal with. But soon enough I hope. lol.

I might have to take you up on that offer.

ehos - Staff's Auto in Vancouver is doing the rebuild. Hes going to be taking the car for a couple of test rides for me before I fly all the way down there to pick it up just to ensure that there isn't any little problems with the car. This time, *knock on wood*. I won't have too many problems.

Keep the gas tank full (Seriously). And take it easy on the mountains (I pulled over for a rest when I noticed I was constantly on boost...)

Other than than, don't worry, just ENJOY it!
