Calgary Meet Sunday, June 25 in Black Diamond

Ok, since the previous thread on this subject has deteriorated into a category-5 hurricane and turned into a good guy/bad guy slug-fest, I'm starting a *new* official Calgary meet thread. Let's keep this one on topic.

First, A few weeks ago I was voluntold by Alak that we should have a meet at my house.

The date for this meet is Sunday, June 25th at 1pm. The address is as follows:

208 3rd street N.W. Black Diamond, AB.

To get here from Calgary:

1. Follow Deerfoot Trail southbound until just after Deerfoot links up with Highway 2 (McLeod Trail) southbound. At this point you are a few km south of Calgary's southern-most city limits.

2. Get into the right-hand lane and take the next exit--- it's the highway 2A exit to Okotoks. Follow this route straight into Okotoks and through town until you come out the other side of town. You'll know you're close when you can see open fields ahead and a Scotiabank, Canadian Tire, Walmart and Sobeys on your left. At this point you should see the intersection of hwy 2A and hwy 7, and a sign that sez something to the effect of Black Diamond turn right.

3. Turn right (westbound) onto highway 7. Follow it for 10 minutes or so. That will put you in Black Diamond.

4. Black Diamond is small. You'll hit a 4-way stop very soon after entering town. That's the very center of town and at the corner of Center Avenue and Government Road. Go straight through the intersection. Take the third right, which is 3rd Street N.W.--- our street. Our house is a tan-coloured bi-level about 1-1/2 blocks down on the right-hand side.

Details:

As previously discussed, this is a pot-luck. Tiana and I are supplying the following:

1. The location.

2. The condiments. (mustard, ketchup, relish, napkins, paper plates, plastic utensils, etc.)

3. Some of the non-alcoholic beverages.

Other items for which we need volunteers are as follows:

1. A gas BBQ and bbq utensils.

2. A deck table. (I think we have enough chairs so no problem there. Thanks anyway NCLBNY)

3. burgers.

4. weiners.

5. buns.

6. A potato salad or two.

7. A tossed salad or two.

8. A cooler full of ice.

9. More beverages. You can't go wrong with non-alcoholic. But if you wish, beer is always welcome. However, we are a little nervous about the possibility of someone getting ****-faced and then trying to drive.

So far, Archangels has volunteered the ice, Alak the table and 7-UP, NCLBNY the weiners and diet pepsi and B@@sted fd the Bankok hookers. (double up on the condoms if you intend to indulge. )

Someone mentioned that you had a bbq. Were they serious or were they pulling my leg? The burgers and chairs sounds great.

I'll bring a good amount of coke, which should pretty much cover non-alcoholic drinks... I suppose I could bring some other drinks for variety, even though it goes against my nature.

If we wanna play GT4 I can also bring my DFP.

I can bring a truck if need be, although I'd prefer to drive my car. Let me know.

Nubian, I'll bring that shop manual for you.

i live south of calgary and i have access to an suv. if anyone lives in the south of calgary and has a bbq that wants to bring it i can drive up in my suv.. my rex is half running and i'd probably be laughed at for my neon anyways

edit: since someone is already bringing non-alcoholic beverages i'll just bring one case of beer to split between all of us...

Depends how you define "better than" I guess. EDV's car is a pristine example of an unmolested and low mileage car with the stock engine. I would thinking finding another car like Ed's would be very difficult indeed. In fact, if you were to put it up for auction I wouldn't be surprised to see a premium paid for it. I'm sure ShaunO would agree.

The truck problem is solved! We have a '92 Mazda B2200 with a canopy. If someone has a decent bbq I can drive over if need be and pick it up ahead of time, and then return it after the meet. Same goes for a table. Just pm me for my phone number. Chairs we have enough of so no problem there.
