If you mean a standalone like haltech, microtech, mega squirt, etc. then you don't have to switch any electronics.

If you mean something like a rtek chip, then you can't mix match things between series.
Yea my fault, I meant standalone, pfc, haltech etc. So if you're standalone there's no need to switch wiring harnesses to run an s5 motor/irons/housings in an s4 car?

She lives! An S5 JDM engine, transmission, ECU, and EM harness all transplanted and spliced into an S4 NA chassis. I've finally got all of my wiring sorted with the help of some friends and now just need to bolt things down and hit the road. Please excuse my crappy phone camera, it's the only one I have.

Is the transmission drop a reasonable one man operation? I got a whining thrust and or pilot bearing and I would like to tackle it, but I'm not sure I can do it myself.
Seems putting it back on my own would prove difficult...

its not to bad pulling it out solo but the install is difficult even with two people in my opinion.

Thanks for asking that , because as soon as I saw the picture of the dropped transmission, I wondered the same thing. Because I have the same problem you have, except my release bearing ceased already. And I will be dropping my transmission by myself too.

i tried to get some good install pics. I had to have one person push on the UIM to tilt the engine back about a half an inch. other than that it was pretty easy to do solo.

due to only having a floor jack i had to put the trans on the jack while it was under the car haha. you'll see!

If you dont have someone to help you loosen the engine mounts a little bit and get a 2x4 or something to put in between the uim and the front of the engine bay some wear to keep the engine pushed back.

Good job on the re install and thanks for the tips.

Did you use the fly wheel stop to keep the fly wheel from turning to keep the alignment for mounting up the transmission?

No, that won't work. You only need the flywheel stop for removing the pressure plate.

I actually took the trans out again yesterday due to it having bad bearings. My old one is back in now though and my whole body hurts like crazy. My seven is driving pretty nice now though so I'm happy

Was it the input shaft bearing?
That's the issue my trans has ...and well it gets stuck in reverse any time I use 5th or reverse...

I'm not sure. It made a loud whining noise in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th. It shifts good but the noise was nuts.
