Nice update. What "mods" will you be doing now that the engine is out?

Any plans? Or just get her fixed and back on the road?

my only plan so far is to build my street port engine and see how that works out. ill probably port this engine and put it in the red car!

so i guess i didn't seal one leg of my front rotor housing.

Very cool, man! I can relate; mine has a streetport ('87 T2) with a Stg 3 BNR turbo.

haha first bit of advice.... step away and take a deep breath.

Now, i know nothing about your build so im gonna assume you have all your stock wiring and it is properly done. If you're doing a swap, now would be a good time to double check everything.

Start with the basics. Does it have compression? Are you getting spark and fuel? And also check your timing.

When i first tried to start my engine (before i rebuilt it) it would crank, smell like a ton of fuel and i shocked the hell out of my self when i put a screw driver in the end of a plug wire trying to get a ark to the chassis. Then i decided to borrow a compression tester and found no compression.

after i rebuilt it, it would not start due to a vacuum leak witch took me hours to realize... this is why i say step away and breath a bit. clear your mind and dont get frustrated. its always something simple because it is simple. its just hard to find. like where's Waldo.

send me a PM and let me know what you find and give me some more info on your build. i spend at least 3 hours a day on this site, mostly just reading or looking threw the classifieds but ill respond pretty quick.

So i started assembling my street port engine today. I had to press in new bearings and give a blood offering while pushing in the stupid atkins viton oil control rings. two deep cuts and a nice chunk taken out of my thumb. Funny thing is i didnt feel it happen, i just noticed that there was a chunk of skin on my rotor and then saw my glove was ripped. Anyway i decided to use a small piece of 2x8 to press them in, it was easy and quick.

On a side note, i had mentioned that i cut into the oil control ring side of the port a bit. well i put the templet on today to see how deep i went and it was hardly noticeable, so i used it. after assembly i turned the engine over and looked in with a good light. I couldnt notice a difference between the two and neither oil control ring was left unsupported. my fingers are crossed but honestly im not worried. i did buy this engine for the soul purpose of learning.

I still have a lot of work to do but i'm gonna try to have it running by wednesday.

here is the crappy cell phone pics!

I'm gonna try and do a four thousand mile break in in this engine, and you're more than welcome to come along for the ride! This engine is going in my black car. I wanna take my time building the red one and I have to be able to drive a rx7. I'm addicted!

For those concerned I looked up how hot the exhaust gets after receiving a resounding NO and removed the tube. If it were a bit more flexible I may have rerouted it to the other side but it's too stiff. I have since installed a new water temp sensor as shown above (the stock one didn't work after the swap for some reason) and a boost/vac gauge. It's not rice if you need it right?

Also got a set of seats and now my head doesn't rub the ceiling and there isn't foam everywhere from the 3 foot wide split down the driver seat. New set of wheels and primed body ready for paint, everything is coming along nicely.

Next comes brakes, bearings, and rear steer eliminator bushings. Mine are worn and sloppy. Feels good to be planing maintenance not repairs.

Texas JDM Engines. Same place I got the drive train from only back then I lived on the other side of the state and now its a 10-15 minute drive from home. They had a small field of seats and when I walked in my eyes immediately went to these. They're an almost perfect match to the rest of the interior and pretty comfy. Apparently they came out of an Evo but once I remover it's rails mine bolted up surprisingly easily with only minor modification.

Yes it is plastidipped, but I'm afraid it looks much better in the pictures than real life. I sprayed it like I was spraying paint which I now know is a big mistake with plastidip. It took on a surface like 80 grit sandpaper and the hood has some mad unevenness. I've learned from my mistake and am in the process of peeling it off to try again.

As for the tap, I looked and called all over town and could not find anyone with a wrench that could open up to 1". I did however find something that I could jam it between and clamp the **** out of it.

Very comfortable. Not to say the stock seats aren't but this is my old driver seat. It looked like this when I got the car.

Like I said I like the stock seats but my head rubbed the ceiling when sitting upright like I prefer so I wanted something a tad bit lower. These just happened to be a perfect match and in great condition. $700 for the set. I looked them up online and the cheapest I saw them for was $1000 each seat plus shipping. Granted that was brand new but I still think I did good.

I did the same thing plasti diping my hood I sprayed to far away and it came out like sand paper but when I did my head light covers I sprayed closer than I usually would with regular spray paint maybe 6 inches an it came out super smooth but on the whole car with a rattle can it would be hard no matter what tiger stripes out the ***.

I got her started today! I've been trying to zero the timing but its off by about a tooth. I'll have it fixed tomorrow and start tuning hopefully.

I have some short videos. dont mind the annoying taping sound, my intercooler piping is rubbing against the leading coil pack.

first start!

idling with timing lock on!

Nice! have you driven it at all? Any noticeable difference in power delivery through the rev range?
