Hey guys, been a while since my last update, I've literally just been too lazy to do so. Also I've been helping a buddy with an issue with an engine that was sold to him that developed a rod knock... Needless to say, I'm sure anyone that knows anything about rebuilding engines should know NOT to use silicone RTV gasket seal as an oil-pan gasket. I think we can all figure out what happened there.

Anyway, the car. Coming along nicely. I have a forum member from Michigan shipping me the bumper and fender, but the other forum member that I was buying a shell and hood off of wont be getting a visit by me :,(. My ride up there with a trailer backed out last minute, but i'm hearing that there is another shell close by that I'm looking into now. So as for the nitty-gritty things on the car:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029012465/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029012465/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Both tail lights are finished being painted and also are back on the car. I personally love the look of them in the satin-black.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029565280/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029565280/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Then I took care for rust spots with some sand paper, rust-to-primer paint, and then some actual primer just to seal it. I also bought some flat-black to paint the whole interior. Just need to mask everything off and wrap the wiring before getting to that.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029011961/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029011961/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Also I've just been away at finishing putting the interior back in and fixing all the small things. Also, you may have noticed a change in my shift ****; that is the **** that I had my friend make for me in machine shop. I forgot to bring my JB weld so next time I'm over there it will be fixed onto the shifter. If anything ever goes wrong with the shifter, I simply will just grind the **** off and machine the hole back out.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029011723/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029011723/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Been busy removing everything off the front end to prepare it for cutting and welding. Also need to get around to removing the water pump to send it back to Rock Auto and get my replacement. I was surprised to see that a Bosch pump failed due to manufacturing error

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029564720/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029564720/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Also got the new bumper support in the mail! Obviously not installed but will be nice to have.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029010771/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029010771/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

My friend in helping me with everything was also able to get the thread chaser into the hole and clean it out and make it usable once more! To be honest, I don't know what I would do without him. Hes bro-spec.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029006971/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029006971/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

And there he is holding the radiator (which he pointed out was for an automatic, due to the nipples on the bottom of it which were capped off.) His dime is in the back of the picture. More on that later.

Overall progress is slow but steady. Some speed bumps in the way to getting it done, but I'm not going to sacrifice quality for speed.

Quick update-

Started to repaint the interior and get everything back together in there.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6040172423/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6040172423/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

I like the way the flat black looks. I thought about just doing a gloss black but then I reminded myself that on really sunny days the hatch would not be a fun place to look at if it were shiny...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6040172481/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6040172481/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Some of these places are just damn hard to reach with a rattle can!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6040722744/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6040722744/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Have to mask off certain areas to make it look clean without painting the wrong things

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6040172595/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6040172595/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Ran out of paint by the time It came for over here. I would have had a lot more but my friend wanted me to give his RC drifter a new look to it.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6040722944/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6040722944/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

I think it's easier on the eyes than the dirty red was.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6040723074/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6040723074/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Also got about to cleaning up the brackets and clearing all the rust and laying down a new coat of black on them to further prevent rust build-up ever again. Brackets were really easy to take off (except the passenger side was oddly different with the left bolt as you can't just use a socket and ratchet to remove it, which was seriously annoying).

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6040173125/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6040173125/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Also got around to JB welding my favorite shift **** on! It needs cleaning up as well as some sort of boot to protect the bottom but I'm seriously happy to have it on and in place. I was thinking, how would it look with the knurled middle done in a super-flat black? Or should I just clean it and leave it how it is?

Another day, another two cans of paint and lots of bolting, screwing, fixing, and bullshitting. I got my fender in today, but its staying in the package until its ready to go on. So today consisted mostly of making everything look pretty while I sit back and wait more for a shell :/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6044182571/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6044182571/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Most people don't even see the item pictured above, but its what I believe is a heat shield for the stock exhaust mufflers. However, since mine doesn't exit the side this was on, I took it off and decided to give it a nice new look. Gave it a good clean, sanded it a little bit, and painted it with Rust Tough silver. Not the chrome lookin stuff they sell, just whatever the actual silver one is.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6044182825/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6044182825/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Finished painting the whole front of the car, looks really good imo.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6044732072/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6044732072/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Then I tackled the poor looking pedals and did them up in that same silver. I decided to leave the rubber things off because it looks better with them off and to me it just feels better to push. Idk why as i'd imagine it probably feels exactly the same, but it's all inside my crazy mind I guess

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6044182979/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6044182979/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

You can see where I ran out of my black... Need to get some more to finish. I'm thinking one more can should be plenty enough. And also I carried over the silver looks into the hatch just to have some accent back there.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6044732380/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6044732380/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Shiny

Also I just went ahead and painted it the flat black. I really like the outcome!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6044183723/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6044183723/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

And the interior in it's current state. Didn't really feel like putting the other seat back in yet. I like the way it'll look on track days, if only i didn't have those pesky people that ride around in the car with me...

Mini-update.

Got my fender in the other day like I said, but today I decided to unwrap it and just check it out. (thanks to myturbo88 for the quick shipping!)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6046104803/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6046104803/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Was looking a little beat up and whatnot but nothing really too serious.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6046654180/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6046654180/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Everything cleaned right up with some good ole scratch remover and paint restore.

Overall I'm happy with it. Obviously wont match the car off the bat, but I am saving up for new paint

Nice progress! Keep at it.

The steering wheel and shifter look great together.
Why bother w/ floor mats in a stripped interior?

That fender looks like an s5, which doesn't really make a difference...until you try to install some side skirts. Apparently the distance from the bottom of the trim indentation to the underside of the fender is longer on s4 fenders - fyi.

Thanks man. And hmmm. Well hopefully its s4 . If not I can modify it a bit to work. If not then damn. Haha, but the reason why I stuck with formats was for the comfortablility factor and my heels were sliding on the floor boards.

And thanks on the wheel/shifter comment. I can't tell you how many of my friends say "why did you waste your money on a steering wheel". They just don't understand its not all about looks. Ive never had this wheel slip in my hand, i cant say the same about my old stock one...

So good day today! Got everything that I sat out to do, well, done. Interior is done, water pump is off, fender is (sitting) on, and pullies repainted.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6051282670/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6051282670/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Took those plates off again and gave the fuel pump one another coat and also painted under them just to make everything clean.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050731311/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050731311/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

This is the kid who made my shift ****. Really good worker and chill guy. If anyone is interested, he's selling a freshly rebuilt KA24E. Just let me know and I'll put you in contact with him.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050731943/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050731943/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Also painted the screws to match the wheel.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050732047/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050732047/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Also cut the wiring to the radio to give to my buddy Vegas. He bought it all to put in his Cressida.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050732125/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050732125/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Still gotta clean the gasket off.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6051283540/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6051283540/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Both seats are also now in. Its getting to look so clean. Just need a two carbon 12"x12" carbon plates so I can mock up my own little cubbie hole where the radio was. And at least one Bride. Stock seats are so damn heavy!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050732325/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050732325/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Finally put the speaker cover back on as well as the A/C tube and cover.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050732383/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050732383/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Just another angle of the finished interior. Really the only thing I have left that I need is a new idiot cluster surround from mazdatrix.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050732545/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050732545/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

The fender looks kinda out of place but hey at least it fits well haha. I'm still not sure what color to paint it though... Any ideas?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6051284072/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6051284072/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

It looks very cramped from this angle.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050732779/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050732779/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Here's how that one piece (still don't know exactly what it is, my guess is heat shield) looks on the car.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050732875/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6050732875/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

And here's what I have repainted so far in the engine bay. Will do the other pullies after I get these back on.

Thanks for viewing as always!

In an earlier post, I mentioned Evan's car in the back of my shots. Well since I have nothing new to update on, I am going to spotlight his car. It's bee a really long build (three years and counting) and has been coming together very nicely.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029559844/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029559844/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

It's a little dirty but he is trying to finish buffing it out and making the paint perfection.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029007291/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029007291/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

Ev is huge into drifting, and his car reflects that style. His wheels are Rota Grid 17x9.5 all around wrapped in Federal 959 215/40/R17 rubber. Not exactly a grippy tire but due to the hard compound, is a great choice given the drift/DD spec of the car.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029560374/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029560374/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

The engine is a rebuilt KA24DE with forged internals just waiting for boost. There was a pretty big hiccup with this engine though; the guy he bought it from used RTV silicone gasket as the oil pan gasket, and as a result, oil leaked from it unnoticed every time he drove it. One day when driving home, he could hear the rod knock, and parked it in the garage. I came over, we started to prep the engine for being lifted out, and that is when he noticed that pan gasket. Long story short, the bearings were all replaced, and was just finished and running by this morning.

As you can see, a LOT of things are held on by zip ties.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029010679/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029010679/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

The engine mod list is pretty short, with things limited to an Injen cold air, 4-1 header, test pipe, and Isis blast pipes. This thing is LOUD, but we love it.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029563546/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029563546/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

The suspension is where all the money has been going to. K-Sport Kontrol Pro coilovers, SPL inner and Tein 350z outer tie-rods to control bump-steer, solid engine mounts (aids suspension by reducing movement made by the engine thus reducing weight transfer), and quite a bit more things that I can't remember.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029564140/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6029564140/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

It's really low, and scrapes over every bump in the road haha. You might not be able to see but the interior is stripped and Bride Vios III buckets with 4-point Sparco harnesses have been installed, along with a rear strut bar (one in the engine too). Weight savings on a decent level. I for one can't wait for the same, as stock FC seats are stupidly heavy.

All in all, Not my exact cup-of-tea, but I love it none the less. Fun to drive, good on the eyes, and lots of quality and hard work put into this thing.

With a rubber mount, just like the springs on the car, they still transfer the same exact weight, but they do affect how quickly it transfers. So instead of getting a sloppy, slow transfer with a rubber mount, the solid mounts directly transfer the weight of the engine with the chassis.

Exactly, hence the reason I said 'reducing' and not 'eliminates' :P

So quick question, since I plan on staying NA, should I go with Rtek7 ecu? I was reading up on their site and to me it sounds like a good idea. But you guys have the best knowledge so help me not make a mistake. Should I get it, or not?

So this was waiting in the garage for me today when I got home from work Not in the best condition but you know what, it's a bumper, and I need one haha. Will have to paint it just to clean it up a bit but I'm happy to finally have it. Now all I need is a hood, and still if anyone has one laying around, I would prefer a shell to get some bodywork from. I have a few dings and dents around the car and I am perfectly capable of cutting and welding so just let me know.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6098957678/http://www.flickr.com/photos/globekidd/6098957678/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/globekidd/, on Flickr

And if by chance you do have a spare hood laying around, pm me if you want to sell it. Just please don't break my bank, there are plenty of other things this car needs haha.

Hell I'll take that. How much for the hood you want? And what color/material/year is it all? Cause it it looks like the one in your profile pic I won't be offering more than probably $50 plus the shipping haha. But yea, just pm me some pics and hopefully we can work something out

Does anyone know what thread I'm about to ask about? Someone made their own fiberglass shroud for their e-fan using a wood/fabric mock up then laid the FB, then cut it to fit the fan and mount on the stock bolts. I am going to get an e-fan sometime soon after i get a few more things sorted out and I really would like to do the same thing. If you can help just let me know. I searched forever and can't find it for the life of me!

Edit: oh and btw lastfc3, at this point i just need a hood so just pm like i said and we will work out somethin. And also, I'm not even 19 yet (3 mo 25 days til my bday) and I am VERY much enjoying this car I often wish I would have been in this stage of my life in the 80's and racing. Couldn't have asked for a better era of automobiles...

Yea that's what I plan on doing, but I just wanted to see the way he did it again just for guidance. His looked good and fit well. I could always just come up with all my own dimensions and do everything myself if worse comes to worse though. Just wanted it as a reference is all.

Other side note- I never heard from anyone if going with an Rtek7 2.0 ecu would be a good investment for my n/a? I know I would need the pocket logger and cable as well, but I just need solid ground to stand on for spending ~$500 on everything. I don't want to spend the money and see minimal improvements. It doesn't have to bee big power gains, i'm not expecting that, just overall improvements within the drivability and durability.
