I'm rebuilding my 13B because it has a low compression. I've opened and I found this! Do you think that is the cause of low compression? Will I have problems?

Looks like a piece of carbon go crammed against the housing. Being at the trailing plug hole probably lowered the exhaust stroke compression.

Hi guys! Thanks for the answers! The seals looks well on both housing, but the compression are low including on a no damaged housing. Obviusly on damaged housing it's lower.

What I can do?

1.- Is it possible repair the housing?
2.- If I buy a new one, could will join with my "old" rotor?
3.- I've read that it's recomended replacement in pairs. But, why?
4.- Any alternative idea?

I think its repairable in the US.
You can buy a new or a used housing, what matches your existing housing. S4 N/A usdm housing has sparkplug holes 5mm closer to eatchother, i recommend to search it from the forums

if the gouge is in a critical compression area and your nail can catch it then it probably isn't a great idea to use it, i wouldn't even recommend refurbishing it.

critical areas include every surface area of the housing excluding 1-2 inches before and after the exhaust port.

minor burrs and some boot wear can be removed by resurfacing. chrome cannot be repaired currently but a few shops in the northern americas are working on that at the moment. the chrome has to be stripped, reapplied and cut smooth again which is not a cheap process.

Just buy another housing. They're pretty cheap. $100 give or take.

I've seen that, but it's a lot of money. If use an use housing, could have any problem? And if I use a new? Which difference have? I read that if I use a new brand housing (only remplace one...) could quick wear down it and shakes crankshaft.

Well they're cheap here in the US at least. I didn't notice you were in Spain. Ebay, Craigslist, and forum embers have them for sale for less than $150 in good shape. You can use s5 NA housings as long as you use them on front and rear. Don't mismatch. The spark plugs are at a slightly different spot. Not sure of any other differences.

We have a problem with the older rotary (pre-rx8) second hand market here in spain, mainly due to the fact that only few rx7 units was sold.

turbo s5 is the same as fd housings. fd housings wont have the water port drilled in to them like the turbo s5 housing but if your other housing is good, you can use that one for the turbos water port and use the fd housing for the one mazda just blocks off anyway, or you can just drill it out.

Are NA s5 the same as well? Besides the diffuser in the exhaust port.

technically the S5 chrome is a little weaker than the series 6 FD rotor housings. the FD housings always come out with the least wear.
