My '88 TII Daily Build/ Rehabilitation of neglect

Hey everyone, I'll be posting updates frequently in this thread. And just for some background info, I bought this car from a second owner in Boca Raton, FL. Overall, the car is in pretty OK shape. Never been in an accident, motor and turbo is flawless... but the body took a bit of beating due to some serious neglect unfortunately. Seems like it had been parked under a tree for a long time so because of that, the leaves got stuck in the drain/gutter under the windshield and rusted out the area where the AC blower is under the dash, right next to the screen. So, this has been my main conflict with the car so far. But, the plus side is the car came with a nice carbon fiber hood w/ pins (least it won't fly up on me), a somewhat new unrusted hatch, kyb rear shocks w/ eibach springs, tokico front shocks, and a new painted sunroof. Also, I don't know what brand rims are on the car but they're in serious need of paint.

Here's the damage which will be cleaned up and patched with fiberglass.

here's the car when I bought it... had a roll cage inside too which I recently sold and traded for a sweet pair of seats. (Thanks rx7freak13v!)

and as it sits currently

Have a carpet coming in soon to replace the beat up one that's in the car. Pics of the new buckets waiting to be installed will be posted soon. Anywho, more progress pics to come!

Do some light/mild compounding, then a good wax. I bet the paint will wake up.
Looks like a good starting point, but that rust... EEEEW

Yeah the paint could somewhat be brought back and that rust has been the biggest pain in my ***. That's really the only thing keeping me from being able to drive it when I need to. Now that I'm online, wanted to ask this... does the dash need to be removed in order to remove and install the carpet?

In theory, yes, in practice, no (if you're willing to do some cutting).

Removing the dash isn't really that big a deal, I would do it.

I would. Well, I did, and have done it twice now. It's not that hard at all. There's threads covering removing the dash. Just takes time!

Had to do this a little bit at a time so I didn't break anything. The defrost vents took a **** after I realized I didn't need to take them out, but at least it gives me a chance to super glue the few pieces back together and condition them so they could withstand the florida sun. Anyhow, she's out!

Thanks! Next on my list is to refurbish and install some s5 lights that I bought recently, and save up for body work and a respray (for now I'm just going to detail it the best I can).

I ran into a small problem installing the s5 surround for the radio/ac controls. It won't stay on lol... Plus, I noticed my radio is rather large for the surround piece. Tips/ ideas?

You could probably compound and buff that paint out. At least for now to save some money. From the pics the paint looks savable.

Lol not likely but I'll keep it in mind.

oh, Ta Da! Also might be picking up an catless-back (if that makes any sense) exhaust.

Btw, anyone seen these rims before? Don't know the brand but they remind me of the camaro rims from like 98+.

Another question, it seems like the outer lense is pulling away, on the end near the yellow lense. This normal (probably not)? Was thinking of putting some clear silicone or rtv to pull it back and hold it. Thoughts?

Did you try pulling out the boost control ****? Some of them lock into place when they are pressed in.

Yeah I did that, still doesn't turn.

Anywho, I was cruising home tonight and decided eh why not get on the gas a little bit. Stepped on it gradually in second gear, shift up. Nothing crazy. I noticed that the stock boost meter in the gauge cluster shot up to max. It never worked previously cause I have the aftermarket one hooked up. Weird. So after about a minute, it just fell all the way back down like it was before. Then I also realized my "Shift Up" light is now lighting up after 2500 RPM's. Wtf? LOL
