Thanks Carl! Yeah..I was pretty bummed about that last 13BT BUT honestly I am just excited to be wrenching..no matter what the engine. This one though will have the desired torque I have never felt before

I just wonder why people seem to think these engines do not break?
Oh no...do not get me wrong, EVERYTHING breaks. I know all too well this motors weakness(oil pump, rod bolts, POS T-56) BUT in retro-spect this engine is breathing a hell of a lot easier at 440 hp at the crank compared to a 13BT with equal power at the e-shaft.

Murray, ur ls swap, will be my inspiration after mine pops..
knocking on wood

Good luck, cant wait to see the final product!
Thanks buddy and I hope your rotary set-up lasts you many many miles. TRUST me...if I was single and had all that spare time, I would still be running a rotary. Right now this is what I desire but in the future when family things slow down I am considering finding and building a nice NA FC

I hear you, I've had almost zero wrenching time since the beginning of summer. Family, home, work, travelling, it all takes up the free time, but it always feels good to go tinker on something. V8 in any RX7 is pretty badass even if not true to the rotang, but **** it, its a car for fun right?

Abso-fucking-lutely!

On another note: Since I have not been around on the forum much I will give a brief summary of what has been going on the last 5 months.
I have been collecting parts out the a$$ WHILE taking care of our new baby boy we had in July

The motor is a 2004 GTO LS1. It has 38,716 miles on it and came from a rear ended GTO who's frame was ruined being smashed by a jacked-up 4x4 truck lol.

My upgrades on the engine are small compared to what my 13BT needed for similar power:

Installed a:
TSP Comp Cams 228R
PAC 1580 Valve Springs
TSP hardened 7.400 push rods
Katech rod bolts
ASP Underdrive pulley(needs to go on)
JTR 1 3/4 long tube headers to a 2.5'' X pipe out to 2.5'' SS pipe to my racing beat mufflers
85mm SLP MAF
Since the motor is a 2002+ model is has the LS6 intake(good for 15rwhp more), LS6 oil pump and 241 heads

I have a standalone wiring harness that will make wiring a breeze.
PCM will be mail tuned by FROST off of LS1tech AND then I will be driving(FC on trailer) out to Spokane WA and having Shelley Performance tune it with HPTuners.

I ordered a 2002 SS Camaro T-56 6 speed transmission with 22,000 miles on it
Wilwood master cylinder 7/8 to fit mazda clutch pedal
A LS7 clutch and Pressure plate
Ram lightweight Alum flywheel
C4 corvette driveshaft with a t-56 slip yoke and a custom TII rear diff flange conversion

Cooling system consists of a 86 corvette radiator with a JTR moutning adapter
Taurus e-fan

All in all my parts list is larger then this and if you want to follow my build go here: http://www.norotors.com/index.php/topic,746.0.html

otherwise I will try to keep everyone posted.

Thanks man, I am really digging it and am very relieved it's turning out so nice. It should be running by January(with headers on only) and the exhaust will be wrapped up around April..when ever the weather permits me to drive it to the exhaust shop for welding.

Then in May I will be heading to Shelley Performance in Spokane WA to get it tuned and dyno'ed. Typical results for this set-up are 380-390 rwhp and 370-390 rwtrq. I hope to hit 400 on the head with a super secret modification

Some more pics of some recent progress:

Headers in....and what a pain in the ***. 5lb hammer was introduced to my firewall and transmission tunnel for a second time.... meaning the motor had to come out while they "conversed".

murray- awesome

the guy who bought my LT1 car is doing the llyods cam and heads package, supposed to yield 410ish to the wheels, is your estimate being conservative?

I found going to a 6 speed when I was so used to the same car with a 5 speed uncomfortable, hard to explain but I have had this conversation with others about it, really wish it was easy to just leave a 5 speed in

What's up with the fuel rail in that last few pics? It looks "crusty".

Headers and american engines... you always seem need a hammer to install them.

Thanks Rob! My numbers actually should be spot on, I do think I will hit 400rwhp BUT the common numbers from this exact set-up are 380-405 rwhp and 380-400 rwtrq. It really just depends on what my tuner can do for me and I make sure all my ducks are in a row

I am curious to see what a 6 speed is like....I imagine 1st gear is useless with this HP.

BTW I really admire your LT1 FC you built, great job man! I watch the new owners videos on youtube all the time. His set up will rock once he gets that head/cam package on and tuned.

The rail and valve covers are painted a black wrinkle finish

..yeah the headers should come with a hammer for free lol. I have been concerned with how much header bolts back out, they should also include Nord-lock washers as well.

Martin has done way more with that car then I had ever done with it or had the time for, I envy where he has went with it and I am glad he owns it now.
I will always say the sound of a LT1 is sweeter but once there is something "better" that is what people want

I dont think there is all that much secret in the tuning, if it were a modern car with a auto there is alot to be unleashed with a trans tune but a tune on a LS motor is not that involved

With the t-56 you may find yourself mis-shifting from 1st (spinning) to 4th (not spinning).

OK so I haven't driven them much, but that's how I found it. My cousin has been driving them for ages and he did the same thing!

Definitely not the same as a TII 5 speed.

most have trouble with 3rd gear, you are so used to the throw of the 5 speed that you end up right between 3-5th

traction in 1-2 is useless most of the time
