If I only wanted 255hp i would go back to the factory 13BT set up with the old plug in play F-CON and a hybrid turbo.... I have been there man. I want around 400rwhp, a LSx is a very easy way to get there for out- of- the- box fast.

I know you all hate to see this conversion but my circumstances and trials/tribulations have made me not give a **** of what is under my hood.......I just want to enjoy my hobby car.

I have to agree with you in this situation. I am not real fond of V8 powered 7's, but hell, if you love the car and want out of the box power and extreme reliability, then V-8 is the way to go. Don't get me wrong, you can make a rotary very powerful and extremely reliable too, but **** is it expensive.

for the same reason he doesn't swap in a honda b series engine to be different. it doesn't make sense in any way. LSX does. if you look at it completely objectively, an lsx swap is better in EVERY WAY! that's why "everyone" is doing it. cause it's a classic recipe for kick ***!

sad to see something like this happen... but youll bounce back... with what ever engine you decide to go with... you do good work...

not to jack your thread... but i also am thinking of going the LSx route... in my situation, it just seems like the right decision.

You got to do what you got to do. Sucks seeing a pinnacle of rotary engines go down like this over and over. I don't blame you for wanting to make the switch, but I will never be as enthusiastic myself if I gave up my rotary to drive it.

Not saying in any way you should be ashamed. You have poured a LOT of time and sweat into this as well as money. There comes a time when you need to have fun as well. Keep us up to date on the swap. Some may try to dog you for it, but many of us will want to know how it's going regardless.

Yeah...I have been researching and a LS6 ntake, header, free flowing exhaust, mild cam/head will yeild over 400wrhp. Pretty cheap 400 hp. AND if I can find a LS6 then hell....headers, intake and exhst will get me to the 400 rwhp mark sooner.

murray- I agree with your decision.
Anyone who thinks the swap is over rated has probably not gotten a ride or driven a nicely swapped FC

My vert may always stay rotary, but I sure miss my V8 coupe and would definitely get another one.

I don't know a single LSx swap owner who doesn't get bored with their car pretty fast. But I guess I only know a couple. And they always seem to feel like outcasts after that, not fully accepted by import/rotary crowd and not fully "fitting in" with the domestic crowd. But I guess you're not much into the whole "import scene" anyway, not as part of your regular social activities.

It seems so much easier and cheaper to just pull the motor and rebuild it (you only broke the iron, you didn't grenade half the engine). Put the thing back together and don't run as much timing. You blew your motor because you ran too much timing. That's all there is to it. You didn't have a CAS issue because Power FC's don't have those problems. The altitude just complicated the tuning in ways that you, myself, and others who have given advice could not fully predict. If you had pulled 5 degrees leading and 10 degrees trailing (I now feel 10 split is aggressive) from the timing maps over say 7-8psi you would still be driving it right now. I'm not saying it's your fault (I've detonated the crap out of a couple cars), but that's simply what it comes down to. There are basically no decent knock control systems available for these cars, that's a big reason why they blow up. These engines aren't glass, they just have primitive electronics (and I consider most standalones primitive compared to OEM controllers).

Just do the math. You buy the LSx, you put all that **** in it, you have the tranny and all the wiring... that's a lot of time and money. You could just pull the motor apart and fix it (something you've done before) and then roll it out. In the end though it's your decision and I wish you luck with the swap if you go through with it.

I've enjoyed wrenching the past years like anyone else, but I'm getting a little a older now and I just want to drive the car! I agree with the LSx swap. IMO the rotary isn't what makes the 2nd gen great, it's the chassis. There is nothing wrong with a great motor (LSx) in a great car. It's not like any of the fun factor is coming out.

Personally I do the rotary thing because it's funky and there is no reason for it. I've killed 2 motors myself and eventually I will get out of it all entirely. I'll have my fun with the building/wrenching part of this hobby as I'm sure you've already had. It's understood you've had yours and now it's time to have the fun doing the driving & cruising.

Ignore the haters and the blasphemy-callers and just enjoy the drive.

my V8 swap was admired and liked by rotary and domestic guys, all CAR guys liked it

Besides I don't drive something to get the acceptance of others, I could give a **** what someone may think of what I am driving

I am sorry dude but I was running 11* Leading and a 11 split. That is pretty damn conservative......**** I was told to run upwards of 12-13 L and that was considered "safe". I even talked with credible tuners with insight and adjustment to my map from them for the main reason of a safety cushion.....

well anyway.......yes it would be cheaper to build again BUT what would break next? I know it is lame playing the "what if" game but when you start to feel more and more nervous about every little part/parameter on your(my) rotary motor...that is a sign to move on.

I just dont enjoy the platform anymore and I remember going for a ride in my buddies C5 383 stroker and thinking to myself, "Man this motor would rock in my FC"...................I just needed the motivation OR fresh start to allow that avenue to begin.

BUT I do want to say thanks for all of your help over the last two years Ray, you really were a great source of common sense knowledge and credible rotary skills, I appreciated it very much.

i just read the whole thread and wow man that engine bay with the rotary looks amazing. can't wait to see what you do with ls6 swap. and i don't understand why people get mad about a piston swap... more power more reliable more torque... why not...

Thanks man! I look forward to what this "push rod peice of ****" will do.

My motor set-up routinely dynos about 390 RWHP/ 380 ft/lbs so it should be fun.

I am installing my cam set-up this weekend.

Nothing wrong with a V8 swap I just wonder why people seem to think these engines do not break? Maybe more reliable then a built rotary but they are not bullet proof. An engine is an engine, things will break. Anyway I can not wait to see this come together. Your car was awesome before and it will be equally as awesome now, just different.
