Another, "Hey look at my car's rebuild journey" attention deprived thread.

I am about to start the rebuild in a week. I BELIEVE I spun a rotor bearing road racing in the Montana Porsche Club. My oil pressure was low ever since I bought this engine and it had to be the culprit (check out my huge thread tittled "Strangest oil pressure problem...)

Anyway, no major mods are going to be done internally since it already has a mean street port(we'll ses since I bought the short block assemblied). I am considering maybe a half bridge if the street port is large enough were it can't be improved. In addition I will add harder stantionary gears and racing rotor bearings.

The biggest project is going to be rewiring my harness and replacing stock sensors with new units so my megasquirt problems will only be because of my tuning ignorance. I figured new pics of the rebuild process and the steps to accomplish a successful running engine will be helpful to anyone no matter how many of these threads exist.

Here are some pics of where she lays at the moment.
I will keep posting. Thanks for looking.

Fronts are 8'' and rears are 8.5''. Thanks 88

That engine on the floor is an old rebuild that seized due to bad seals. its S4 and I want the lower compression rotors if they aren't jacked up.

Well, it has been well over a week and I have not got much done.

Have had so much going on in my families life and have only been able to hit up the garage maybe 30 mins a week since my first post. I have decided to get all the little things I have wanted to do to my car for a long time and figured since its going to be naked I might as well do it.

I got a sweet deal from BASTARD(thanks bro) on a Turbonetics 62-1/HKS mani and custum DP. Want to complete my fuel system so I am going the stainless route,Aeromotive FPR, 1520 sec/720 pri. I also am working on my MegaSquirt on some spare time, that **** is complicated and I am not looking forward to the issues once I get that installed. I am shooting for 380-400RWHP.

Last week I got a hair up my *** and wanted to remove my engine harness to rewire to aviod some issues on the MS goes in BUT half way through the removal I figured I better keep the F-CON in while breaking the new rebuild in since it ran fine before the motor let go. It would have sucked to deal with all the problems with a new EMS and try to somewhat tune AND break in.

All in all, the engine is ready to get taken out and the only thing stopping me is...my wife She starts as a RN in Jan and the old single income will double. Rebuild kit will fall from the sky then. As promised I will keep you all posted. Here are some pics(the least I could do for making you read this)

Thanks Vip, I figured maybe with some more custom work and accessories it might be worthy to climb up on the 2nd gen winners podium at Sevenstock next year. THEN again though if you show up w/ a new FC I will probably get second place again. (again sorry to hear about the FC).

Im going on 4 years since I started this car and from the day I purchased it it seems that my life has a vendetta against it. Something always comes along and puts the car on stand by....deployment, marriage, baby, wife's college, my school, ect. All good things, don't get me wrong but it is frustrating when you just want to get it finished.

Sweet price on that DP. I can't wait to here it spool. I have no doubt it will get me to 400.

Just a quick update I am deciding to sell my MegaSquirt. It is for sale in the 2nd gen parts section. Selling for cheap and it is in great shape. I have decided I am going to the power FC route with the Banzia Racing adapter.

Update:

Well I just got back from Iraq last week and got a little down time from my job and family to work on my FC. Since the last time I posted I was taking measurements for fabricating my intercooler piping and RB pre-silincer to accomadate my new 62-1 kit. Everything is welded and good to go. I also finished my fuel system and upgraded it to a parallel system. I ended up doing something a little different then what you see on here, I went with JEGS "push-loc" AN fittings and hose all around. I like it BUT kinda regret getting the blue hose since it is so bright I think it looks ricey. I am slowly getting used to it. I also got an aftermarket FPR and 1580 secondaries. In addition I also got all the necessary flanges and lines for my turbo's oil system, push loc as well only in Grey instead of ricer blue. Function 7 on EBAY makes some great qaulity flanges. Higly reccomended!

I also bought some new gauges, clutch, wheel spacers, oil cooler lines, blah, blah, blah. You know the usual ****.

So, as you all know I thought I spun a rotor bearing last June. WELL, I pulled the engine today and ripped into her. I ended up spinning the front rotor bearing, chipping on apex seal that fucked the front rotor and the rotor housing, destroyed my front stat gear bearing and e-shaft journal, chipped a rear rotor apex seal and killed that rear rotor housing AND possibly screwed my intermediate housing.

The side housings turned out OK. I was worried I might have burned them up. As for the intermediate housing there are some crazy located scratches that are on only one side. They are deep enough to catch with my fingernail and I am up in the air if they are fatal to the housing(posted thread in General Rotary Tech sec). Thing that really blows is all the side housings are ported very NICE and is unfortunate that the intermediate might be toast.

GOOD NEWS is I have a S4 13bt coming in next week from Seattle that only smokes a little bit. My cousin has had it in his garage for 6 years abnd wants it gone. There is my part engine I need so very bad!

So all in all I lost just about everything on this motor but at least I salvaged the ported side housings and got some 3rd gen corner seal springs.

The lower compression rotors will be nice for my turbo set up and I will probably port the new intermediate housing. Plus I am pysched to order some 2 piece Mazda apex seals, I have only used 3 piece before. Lets hope there isn't to much wear on all the parts in this other motor OR this project is gonna get a whole lot more expensive

I will update you as I go and want this puppy done before July so stay tuned.
