My friend and i tried to JB weld it with the block still in the chassis but wouldnt work. I know he did cuz he started taking the engine apart as soon as he got it on his work bench and that i had to find a new way to route the oil for the turbo and the front iron (since he tapped it) through to the rear.

I didnt get a new rear iron cuz i figured i would just throw the motor back in but it eneded up turning it into the build im currently invested in. Figured i had the motor rebuilt better just get everything i wanted to be done get done now instead of later lol.

I love the look of your car. Why don't you black out the taillights like the rest of the car?

I really don't like the look of black tails. I don't know what it is, maybe growing up and constantly seeing late 80's "gaymaros" running around with their tails smoked turned me off to it.

Plus a car with just red lights and clear turns looks sexy, unfortunately I couldn't make my rear turn signals clear without major reconstruction. So that is why I went the other route.

I just HATE amber on cars.

Sean,

original thread here: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/just-measured-s5-turbo-rear-iron-factory-bracing-pics-795339/

real quick note about thicker dowel pin casting: I replaced my 88 irons, which had endured 21psi and multiple detonations (maybe 88's are stronger than 87's somehow?), with JDM 91 turbo irons. I measured the thickness of the dowel pin land and it was 19% thicker, ~38mm vs 32mm on the s4 iron. I ditched the s4 irons because my middle iron had a chip in a coolant passage.

Nothing new yet. I did get my side seals in and my new S4 iron with the beefier casting.

I just haven't had time to post any pics because my family and I are moving into a new home and the wife wants some painting done. I HATE HOUSE PAINTING!!!

I should be starting the build in about 2 weeks. I WILL post some pics of the new S4 rear iron come next week.

ARGHX:

What up bro? I saw this thread a while ago when I first discovered my crack. You should see the new iron I ordered, it is BEEFY. Stay tuned.

If you haven't assembled the motor, would you mind measuring the width/thickness of the dowel pin area so I can compare yours to mine? Also note that the newer front irons have stronger casting as well.

No problem man. Will do.

Hey man how did you make this panel? What do you use on the other side to keep the gauge and controller up?
I used a honey comb backing enforced with resin. My cousin did it a while back and since then I have added the comb and used a thin 1/8 plastic back bpanel over the honeycomb secured with some small 8mm 1/4'' screws.

It is ridgid BUT still fragile. My damn CD player was sliding out a half inch everytime I would do WOT pulls tuning.

AS for this thread my move in is finally complete and I am starting to pull the motor slowly. I will have pics up soon of the carnage.

Oh I will

I should say I have been kind of slacking with jumping right into her lately. I have actually taken the FC out a couple times for a quick spin just because I am so sick of umpacking and setting up the house.

The crack has not grown in size but I also was not boosting her at all during those joyrides.

I am living back in Montana now bro. I used to live in Perris, CA from 2004 to 2007. Got back to Great Falls, MT in April of 07.

Perris is alright, I would have rather lived in Temecula.

I got a hold of a cherry picker today...needless to say I am pretty damn stoked! I refuse to buy one because that is just wishing for bad joo joo.

I almost don't want to rip into her...she is still driveable and the weather is PERFECt now. ****!

Pic of the new house. Got it for a great price and is a wonderful home for our daughter. The FC better not break again or it is going to be sold because this S.O.B is gonna take ALL my time..

Yeah like alex said why won't you build it to be bullit proof (yeah kinda of an oxy-moron if you think about it lol). your car is way to awesome to be sold man, it gives me inspiration to get my tps adjusted since i don't know how to do that lol!

I would LOVE to build a stand by motor BUT I have ZERO time anymore for these big projects. Daughter and wife, not to mention work and possible other baby on the way make me not free for much.

This motor will be STRONG. I have a very conservative tune I did myself and it must be putting down some decent power to crack the rear iron. Remeber this is the only thing that has gone fatally wrong since I have had her together.

All my datalogs show nothing dangerous and my knock values are so so small. AFR at WOT are 11.0 and my temps never spike. I am very CONFIDENT in this motor and God willing, it will give me many years of fun without the frustration.

I got some pics coming tonight, motor is 90% out.

Got a day off today so....started at 9AM and by 3pm it is ready to pull.

After about 1 hour.....

??My coolanted looked a little rusty considering it was brand new about 50 miles ago. Maybe residual coolant?? Be interesting to see the condition of my water jackets.

Engine by about 1:30

Found this little bitch crack. I wonder if I should go Banzia Mounts OR Mazdaspeed stiffer stock mounts? If anyone has input, please DO

Will update later this evening or tomorrow.

And.......its out.

I bought this HKS 10psi spring for my HKFake WG. The member I bought it from replaced the diaphram and spring with HKS parts. He SAID the spring is the yellow 10lb spring BUT I hold 14.7 psi in 2,3 & 4th gear. SO i think he put in the purple spring from HKS which is rated in the 50MM at 14.7 psi.

If it is yellow spring inside like the seller said then that is impressive that it holds at a steady psi after the creep.

-----BTW is there anything I need to know before hand when I go to rip inside this wastegate? Any input on past mistakes or tips would be appreciated.

Surgery on the block starts soon.................
