Is the oilfilterbracket a 2-piece? Looks like tracks of the facemill all over it, but there is two threads in the way for that

Looking good. Have a question though- If the stock oil pump cavitates at 10.5k, and it is now spinning 2x as fast, wouldn't it cavitate at 5200?

I've been following this since day 1, and WOW, amazing fab skills!

My one and only concern is the placement of the fuel surge tank. Is there a specific reason you put it up in the front?

Awesome build!

i've know of this build for some time now, but didnt come to reading it.

the amount of custom fabrication in this thread is too damm high! But that is a good i suppose, nothing but admiration for that amount of dedication and 'ambacht'!

Love this thread, this being done in the netherlands and even really close to where i live And great you've chosen an s4 fc-body for this monster

only one thing i am wondering, maybe it has been asked or clarified already: how are you going to get fresh cool air at the intake, since it seems the engine will sit in a closed compartiment with that rad-shroud

Yup, 2-piece, or well 3-piece actually. The aluminium block has holes with M20x1.5 thread tapped into them. I machines some threaded pieces on the lathe using C45 steel, they are screwed in there. A type of defcon was used to make sure they stay there forever.

Good point, it probably will cavitate, but others have already used the same setup with succes (the granny speed shop frankenstein 4-rotor used one for example) so I'm hoping it will also work for me. I did try to minimize cavitation by modifying the inlet tract between the pump and the oil sump. The feeding holes have been enlargened and I made a custom oil pickup tube without a filter which is shaped like a trumpet. We'll see what sort of oil pressure it makes, if it's not sufficient I'll probably try to fit a external nascar style pump and go dry sump, shouldn't be too difficult to fit one of those. The mazda comp dry sump kit is not an option for me since they almost cost as much as the rest of the engine combined.

Yes, there is a reason for it. Placing the surge tank in the trunk was not an option because of safety reasons, it's not even allowed in a lot of racing classes around here, space underneath the car is very limited thanks to the huge silencers so it couldn't go there, which meant it had to go in the engine bay. I didn't want to place it in the right side of the engine bay because the exhaust header is there, which can cause a fire in case of any fuel leaks. I couldn't place it on the rear left side because of the clutch, brake and oil stuff, so I placed it more to the front. It's a nice unused spot that's also safe in the case of any fuel leaks. And when the tank is full it will probably only weigh about 2,5 - 3 kg's max, so I'm not worried about placing weight in the front part of the car. In my opinion the safety factor more than makes up for a 0,2% difference in weight distribution.

The engine bay isn't a completely closed compartiment, there are 2 holes in the front that allow some air to go around the radiator into the engine compartement. You can see the opening in this picture near the upper side of the radiator:

The radiator ducting isn't as wide as the frame there so there's a gap. The 2 holes aren't huge, but I think it's enough to keep the engine bay temperature under control.

I.D. = 50mm, O.D. = 53mm near the trochoid surface, 60mm near the slide throttle housing.

After focussing on the engine bay and everything in it for so long work on the rest of the shell has finally started.
Took out pretty much everything I could and prepared the chassis for the rollcage. Went pretty well, getting the sound deadening material out and cleaning everything up was a crappy job though.

Now I have to wait for the ordered tubing to show up before starting work on the cage. Untill then I'm keeping myself busy with fitting the seats. I'm trying to get the stock seat rails to work with the sparco seats so I can adjust them. I think it will work on the drivers side, don't know about the passenger side though. One of those seat rails sits on the transmission tunnel at an angle, so I might make a fixed mount on that side.

might want to make your own brackets for the passenger side, note that it sits about 2" lower than the driver side and at an angle if you mount it flush.

the seat hole locations on the FC are rather dysfunctional..

I am amazed at how fast your project is going, I can only guess you either spend all day on the car when you should be working or you never sleep =p

You're right, the driver side is OK but passenger is ridiculous.
I'd definitely go fixed mount for the passenger.
