[AUS] Kustoms FC3S

Hey guys, I recently joined the 13BT club.. here is my story and my build thread - I hope you enjoy it as much as i enjoy the car!

First of all before I start i'll introduce myself, my name is Stef (yes i'm a male) I'm currently 21. And i'm an Apprentice Electrican.

13-10-12

I have bought a RX7 FC3C VERT off my old mechanic who was building it up but lost his job and had to move and sell it off.

Here is what I was left with.

2BE3D760-4E9A-4967-A5BD-E6DCBE6F3BEA-21380-000005ACA6588BBE.jpg?t=1350101496

940A7F70-B810-4740-9C42-ABDCDA63B31C-21380-000005AC4E92297F.jpg?t=1350101432
12FD9789-53A5-428F-80E0-01888672392D-21380-000005AC42E1E694.jpg?t=1350101425

What it had
RPF01 18x9.5 +15 Fronts
RPF01 18x10.5 +15 Rears
Both wrapped in 595 SS
Sparco PRO2000 Seat
Sparco steering wheel
Bride Seat rail
BC BR Coilovers
Final konexxion bodykit with origin lab carbon canards front/sides

What it didn't have
ECU
GBOX
ENGINE
T-SHAFT and running gear
Interior pieces here and there missing.

Anyway, I went out on a search for a cheap, nice donor car I could use to build this one up. I checked out a full bog stock vert. Was pretty tidy then I took it for a drive and wow, I was a little disapointed I guess. I was expecting a bit more power as all my friends turbo cars have had work done to them when i've driven them. So I extended my search for one that has been rebuilt with a bit of port work and bigger turbo.

I talked to a few different owners and after a few I found one on the northside of brissy.

It was a coupe but that was okay as I was just using it for a donor car.

Now that you know the base of the story, I'll start copying over from another forum till where i'm up to today.

Alright.... Where to start.....

Vert is now pretty much out of the picture.... Why do you ask? I have recently found out that it was originally imported as a 'track only/off road' vehicle. Then the guy who owned it before me sanded back the number, bogged it & stamped a new VIN number on... Not just any number, a COUPEs number. I knew the guy and saw the car getting built to where it was so it's halve my fault for not checking but I obviously didn't think he would do this as I knew him but whatever. It's done.

So the plan is take off everything I plan to use, strip the car completely & part out what I can and make back as much as I can. It should equal out if I workout how much It would cost me to buy this or that (bodykit/coilovers/wheels) etc etc. So I havn't really lost heaps but I just was getting keen on having a vert and cruising everywhere with the roof down. That and it's different.... oh well

When I found this out, I went to purchase the coupe. Me and Tom drove out and checked it out. I bought it without Coilovers and wheels as I plan to use the ones off the vert now (BCs & RPF01's) so we chucked some stock sussy and wheels in/on (thanks rhys) and took it for a spin. Drove fine, He told me it's running about 260hp on 6psi with a T04z so it's barely spinning :P Didn't really feel like 260 but probably about right. Definitely quicker than my RX8.

After that we took it back to the seller, had a chat and we shook hands and that was it. I was an owner of an 1990 RX7 S5 Infinity Model.

On the way home, got onto the freeway and BAM, snapped the fan belt. Rang the prev. owner to see if he had some spare but he only had AC ones. So we went to supercheap and sorted that **** out. After that little hiccup we were all good to get home and it's now sitting under my house.

On the plus side.
- I have a full car with a lot of goodies.
- Saved me a lot of effort.
- Very close to RWC (just need mod plate for turbo & front mount intercooler)
- Can now run a roll cage.
- Coupes are still sick.
- Interior is mint.

On the down side.
- I've gotta part out my vert.
- No driving with the roof down.
- Little bit of body work & respray req.

So yeah. That's where I'm currently at. The Sparco PRO 2000 will be up for sale as I've got genuine RX7 FC Infinity seats which are enough buckets for me and love the stock look.

Heres the list of goodies with the car:

-Mildport rebuilt 13bt engine
-T04z 1.0 ar
-Custom Steampipe manifold with 50mm Turbosmart wastegate
-Knightsport braided brake lines
-Dba slotted rotors all round
-Microtech lt10s ecu with ign booster and Bosch coils
-SARD fpr
-Seimens 910cc injectors
-Cusco 2 way diff
-External surgetank and bosch 044 fuel pump
-Full smb exhaust
-Custom alloy piping and cooler setup
-Roof spoiler
-New Mazda RX7 S5 OEM front plastic lip
-Ftp lenses and indicators
-Cluster surround, Ashtray, Gear stick surround, all new vents & Retrimmed gearknob/handbrake boot
-Factory storage bins, foot rest and knee pad, suede door trims

Cheers guys,
Stef.

Booked in for mod plate Monday night. If all goes well should have rego by the weekend :-D

8-3-13

Left work two hours early to get a RWC on the bad boy. Had a little trouble as the compliance sticker seems to have been removed/lost, weird cause its been rego'd before. Anyway I found out the compliance date by searching the VIN/old Rego number and got it sorted. Went to transport office and bam. I've got rego!

Oh yeah I went to put my plates in and noticed the rear one wouldn't fit (like S13's and such) But instead of bending the plate, i installed my convertible rear lights (y) As I think they look better anyhoo.

Few updates for you boys...

Been driving it all weekend. Chewed through two tanks of fuel :p (Y) Love it, it's running mint. I've gotta drive it to work for this week only due to my car pooling fool is at tafe. But i'm really cheering as I love driving it.

Anyway....

On sunday... woke up at 6 and then all this unfolded... sorry for the spam of pics

First of all, drove to Mick's place from Fat Fitment and got my rear guards rolled... the drivers side cracked a fair bit and looks a little uneven but its only the paint flaking up. Very happy with the turnout, definitely recommend him.

and this is how it all turned out... pretty stocked tbh, very happy as the kit is pretty much just slapped on pig like as fitment wasn't purrrfect. But I'm kindof enjoying that as my RX8 I was so careful and wanted everything mint where as this i'm happy for it to look piglike, cause welll.... look at it... its freakn awesome haha.. hope you guys like it as much as me. I was going to go to Fat fitments meet but other things came up so had to bail unfortunately ...

Nek minnit... Defect. I didn't even last a day registered... love qps
They got me for Wheels poking out, steering wheel, ride height, wheels too wide.. Warning for tint & no front number plate.

Didn't get to take car on skidpan on friday due to my clutch slave cylinder **** it self on thursday. I picked a new one up on friday and hoped to have it in on time, but was on the other side of town and by the time I got home was already 5 so didn't put it in till today, along with some track preparations.

-Clutch slave cyl installed
-Clutch system bled
-EBC Red Ceramic pads installed all around
-Brake system bled
-Tried to install short shifter that came with the vert - to find it was the wrong size.
-Took Diff out of Vert, it's going to be going into my coupe as its been rebuilt and is a 4.3.1 - 2way.

Quick update.

Went to Lakeside today had a ball ! Was a full day session with the MX5 Club of QLD (and some others). Was running great until just before lunch were a shredded/snapped a fan belt (yes - the same one I replaced 3 weeks ago). Not sure exactly what is causing it, but I know a lot of the RX7 boys replace their V style pulleys to the flat style (new style) belts. So I think that will be in order if I keep shredding belts.

Anyway at lunch I went down to supercheap auto and bought a new belt. Fitted it, and was still overheating. Filled up my overfill and cause it was hot I left the radiator for a while. Then when it had cooled down a bit (to about 70) I decided to let her warm up again and see what the go was, but once again she got to hot and i was puzzled. Let it cool down once more and i stood there checking everything I could think of.... nek minnit, i thought, derp... I didn't even fill the radiator back up. But obviously I forgot coolant while I was at supercheap so I filled it up with water and all was well.

But since I only had water in my cooling system I did not wish to go back onto the track just incase...

Apart from that - the car ran great. Totally stoked, really happy. Still got 4 full sessions in (5laps) each, each time beating my PB. And I only checked / fixed my tyre pressure before the belt snapped and it was feeling so much better ! Oh well, next time for sure. My new PB for lakeside is : 1:09.9

Heres a few pics. I got off my phone, I'm sure the track photo guy will have some action shots of it. (I hope).

Cheers guys,
Stef.

Me neither but it's definitely gotta wait till after I get back from New York/America or else my girlfriend will chew my sick off haha. I was originally leaning towards a red but the blue is really growing on me at the moment so yeh might end up painting the the same style blue.

Got a few little things done today - not much but first of all, ripped front bar off and raped guard, siiiick !

Anyway, I removed my white line rear sway bar out of the vert, installed strut brace on the coupe

Then installed short shifter ...'omg feels so good, I can shift through my gears so much quicker and smoother. Feels so much better ! Love it

Then gave it a much needed wash and put some of my mates stickers on that I support and fixed guard/front bar up properly - and also removed c/f canards for daily driving.
Oh and decided I'd swap back from convertible lights to s5 coupe lights here's how she looks at the moment

Soooo keen for skid pan on Friday !

Hey guys,

Bit of an update. On friday I got the following done;

-Swapped old diff (clunky and pretty worn out) with a rebuilt Mazdaspeed 1.5way - though I want better ratios.
-Installed Front & Rear sway bars.
-Raised front height by 8mm
-Mad skid pan night at QR.

To swap the diff you've gotta drop the exhaust, and pretty much the whole rear subframe. Soooo gay, don't really want to do one again haha... so a massive thanks to Tom for letting me do it at his workshop with a hoist Made things 30 times easier and faster. Heres some pics for you girls.

Heres my car completely loaded up !

Gave it a startup with the exhaust off just after the cat (so normally i've got a reasonator and 2 mufflers behind it) only revved to 2.5k cause people were around.

and heres some pics i've been tagged in on facebook from friday night drifts by Jacob Torino (thanks man !)

Had a great time in skid pan. It was my first time ever skidding a car really so was a good learning experience. Basically learnt by the end of the night to let off the gas. I think I was having a lot of trouble hitting boost and just nailing it when I should be letting off....

Soo really I just did 10000 hoops. So my bad to anyone watching. Sorry for being a novice but that's what Friday night practise is for right definitely keen for the next one.

Also, looking at going widebody fronts so I can space them out a bit and I want to run some camber on the front. And since I'm doing the front I may as well go widebody for rear too (but not going to run camber) - What's everyones thoughts on this as ATM I love how aggressive it is. I'm a little bit worried with going widebody I'm going to lose that aggressiveness even though my wheels are still going to be same poke/flushness - if you follow what I'm trying to say.

Would like to hear what everyones got to say.
Thanks to the people who came up on Friday and had a chat. Had a blast. Hopefully catchas around soon !

Cheers,
Stef.

Hey guys,

Small little update tonight.

My plans have changed a little over the last few weeks while I havn't been updating. With all this action going down with the new hooning & policing laws I've decided to legalize this as much as possible and go for a little bit of a cleaner look rather than an agressive style body kit.

After deciding this is what I wanted I found this picture with a Shine Auto Type I Front bumper & some Origin lab canards which I absolutely love.

After trying for 2 weeks to source one in or around Australia without any luck only option was through the Australian reseller/distrubuter who wasn't being very organized with the next shipment I decided to leave it and look for another option I enjoy. I came across this picture on AusRotary when the previous owner was telling me i'm a idiot for changing his car, and realized that this is what I would really like, it still has the fitment and aggressiveness but isn't as low & illegal as my current kit, which is really one of my main problems. I want it to look good without being super low(or illegal).

I picked up a few items from Panda from the forums here, top bloke ! I grabbed some Shine Auto Side Skirts, Shine Auto Front Widebody fenders (+30mm) and Shine Auto Rear Widebody Fenders (+30mm)

Today I started dismantling my car, took the front bar off, skirts & front fenders. I Sat the Shine Auto Front fenders on just to have a look at how much space I have to play with and its not much due to my old guards had already been flared a fair amount. But very happy at the quality of the fibreglass products, definitely high-end gear.

During the week I purchased a new Mazdaspeed Carbon Gear **** & Nardi/Mazda Steering wheel off a BF Famila - Still waiting on delivery of these items (I love the look and also to legalize my car as my current one isn't padded).

I have also ordered some parts from RHD Japan which i'm waiting on. Supernow Engine Baffle Underplate

and Attain FRP 60mm Triple Meter Panel to house my Apexi Gauges.
(FC3S Is the one on the right)

Can't wait to sort out exterior so i can be less police bait and enjoy driving it a bit more. I only have to do a little bit of work on the interior afterwards then I want to move to tidying up the enginebay a little.

Cheers guys,

Once again great to hear your thoughts on anything & everything.
Stef

EDIT; holy **** huge pics. Will resize tomorrow, cbf tonight.

Heaps of changes in the last 6 months, was looking at buying this FC myself but was offloading an S13 at the time.

Do you have the bride rail for sale? Sounds like you have a FC wrecking yard of spares already.

Update pics of car

Been looking at diffusers or pods for the rear as front is gonna have a lip and I've got skirts so need something to match rear.

What do you guys think ? I'm leaning towards pods as its more / cleaner

Diffuser

Pods

Let me know what you think!!
Cheers, Stef.

Do pods. It'll suit the rest of the car IMO.

Yeah have decided on pods as it is more subtle/clean styling and also a lot easier to source here in Australia.

Cheers,
Stef.
