GA V8 rx-7

Bored so why not start a build thread.

The car is a 1985 Mazda RX-7 built for SCCA IT7 class. The car was raced for awhile powered by a rotary and taken off the track for a V8 swap. The previous owner never finished the project and put it up for sale and that's when i picked it up.

I wasn't really looking for a project car at the time but i also didnt want to end up seeing this car flying down the track with a V8 in it.

This is going to be a slow build thread due to work and life taking up most of my fun time.

Woke up early this morning and started to tare the rest of the car apart to get it ready for paint, Still not sure what color to go with.

Hear is a picture before the V8 was taken out, All wrong

Now the fun part starts, taking the car apart and seeing what were working with

The car has Tokico Illumina shocks all around, Unknown camber kit, and unknown coilovers.

Going to take the stock tank out and install a fuel cell

The car came with alot of spare wheels and tires

Been doing some thinking about how to go motor wise and just started buying parts.

Bridgeport 6 Port irons.... Brap Brap Brap

And the HUGE purchase of the weekend was this, a Borg Warner T70. The previous owner was making double my HP goal for this build on a stock port 6 port S5 motor on 16psi.

Just trying on the Rotor Rim

Wow that's going to be a serious machine. I'm looking forward to see how things develop Alex and thanks for saving that beauty from V8 Hell.

I'm assuming this is going to be a track car so we probably won't get to see it at the Suwanee OGTA meets, but when you get it going let's talk about organizing a weekend meet at the track. An FB salvaged from V8 Hell has got to be worth 2 12A equivalents at least.

A truly inspirational story. Please keep us updated, I know I would like to see this poor abused machine get back to its rotary glory.

Wooh hoo Alex, you got me thinking. That's a cool way to do a 12A.

Maybe I need to do a rebuild.

So far, I've got the cat, just need to shop for the rest.

What's the process for installing a fuel cell into a 7?
I'm interested in converting my 7 over to a fuel cell as well.

Do u cut away the spare tire area and hang the fuel cell below?
