You're welcome . I'd never seen it on that kit either til a few days ago & it blew my mind. Pretty easy piece to fab up too. Nothing you couldn't do with a sheet of aluminum, a marker & some cutting utensils

I can certainly make it out of aluminum but then I'd be afraid of cutting my ankles every time I got in/out of the car. I have to be careful when I walk behind the car with my rear wing cause of that same reason.

Nothing a thin rubber strip couldn't fix. My plan is actually to tack on a thin rod to the end in the shape I want & then just wrap the ends over it & voilà! Safe & aesthetically pleasing radiused ends!

Thanks for the compliment.

Been looking at my schedule and I don't think I'll be able to get the swap started and finished in time for DGRR this year. I definitely want to try to make it this year for the first time so I've decided to hold off on the swap until after the event. May tackle the custom side pieces though but will get the hood, fender, headlight cover fixed, and a few other little odds and ends done prior to the meet.

You shoulda kept the duckbill wing! We coulda been twins! Sorta...lol. Why did you decide against it out of curiosity? Personally my favourite, so if I ever need more rear downforce I'll just be adding a rear bumper mounted GT wing. Plus I'm moulding mine into the body...so that would be kinda difficult to remove, lol.

Lx_machado and I bought it with the intentions of duplicating it but unfortunately, the quote we received from a well known composite shop was just too much so he bought my half of the share. Plus, I didn't want to mold it in as none of my panels are molded for ease of removal in case anything happened and needed to be replaced.

Now that you gave me the idea of the side pieces, it'll fit in with the wing as it'll be of the same material/finish.

took a 10 minute break from work and mocked up the following:

it's 8 inches wide and butted up against the pinch weld. it's a little deceptive due to the brown of the cardboard but when it's white, it would look pretty nasty i think.

side skirts

Looks interesting. You can wax Masonite and fiberglass will pop right off. I made all the parts this way except for the fenders and rear spoiler. You can use modeling clay to add radii in the corners and to add details.

Looking forward to seeing it come together.

I'll be using the same .080 aluminum panel as the wing for this, I think it'll be easier to work with and will not require much fabrication or paint. But need to find the rubber edge protector...I found the Trimlok stuff but they don't seem to sell small quantities.

Go to your local auto parts store. They should have something called Automotive Edge Trim or something to that effect.

Otherwise, if push comes to shove, just buy vacuum hose with your preferred radius, slit it, and voilà.

Oh oh oh! Another suggestion (I seem to be full of those lately)! Not sure if you fancy the idea, but I was thinking that it'd look pretty cool and more "finished" if you gradually brought out the rear part of the side step to match the width of the rear quarter panel. Just a thought. In my mind, it would look best with a radius starting roughly 3/4's of the way down the skirt. I'll try to make this the last suggestion, lol.

lol, no prob. input is always good. i'm trying to picture it in my mind but i think i like it the way i have it right now. i'm afraid it would look too "fat" in the rear if i tried matching it up.

i would like to get suggestions for a rear diffuser though as the side view of the rear will seem like something is missing with these side skirts. frankenmazda's custom rear end looks awesome.

K. Well I was bored and haven't sketched in a long time, so I decided to try something.

First, just to give a better idea of the side step:

OR

craaaazzy's Widebody REW project-image-1815743728.jpg

As for the rear diffuser:

*The vertical lines on the diffuser are fins

Also, you should pull sheet metal/aluminum over the "bumper area", I think it would look awesome just bolted/riveted on.

Good sketches. I like the rear design just not sure I can fabricate that as I have no metal brake or access to one to make the bends.

Luckily I have a solution for this also! To make a nice clean bend, draw the line you want to bend on the sheet metal, then, using an angle grinder, run a cutting disc down the line, penetrating roughly 1/2 way through the metal, and then simply bend up. Then either run a couple stitch welds or L-brackets to maintain strength

At some point in the future I do plan on making one for my FB & then offering it as a product from my shop.
