started the car this weekend and the turbo's i had are still smoking from the front turbo. i swapped the front section from another set i had but same issue so maybe issue w/ the center section. found a set of rebuilt twins so that's coming to me (2k miles on them), modified to run non-seq already. should be the last thing to do...crossing my fingers.
almost 3 months later and i finally got around to swapping out the twin turbos for another non-sequential set i bought. now need to top off all fluids and check...

started the car up the other day and after the car warmed up, smoke started coming from the engine bay. i know on the old twins, oil was leaking but this set has no leaks that i can visually see on top or underneath. i checked and rechecked. the only thing i can think of is either an exhaust leak or residual oil leftover from old twins (i did not wipe the metal gaskets clean prior to installing this set as i didn't even think of checking). will need to run a few more heat cycles to see if it clears up.
great truck... I have a 97 Landcruiser.. over 300K minimum maintenance...runs like a top
thanks, it's a great truck which hauls the family around comfortably. mine's at about 150k but i'm counting on it to run for a long time. hard part is trying not to mod it...
unfortunately not. family priorities always comes first before hobbies. but I do keep looking at it...my battery charger on the RX7 died on me so I had to send that in for warranty (NOCO genius G3500) so waiting on replacement. need to start it up a few times again and go through some heat cycles...maybe next week.
funny you should ask...I actually started it up yesterday. has it been over a year since my last startup? wow. but good news is that it had no issues starting and idling. still need to tune it. I did change my insurance to a higher stated value now in preparation for driving it.
Funny, I did the same just the other day. Went with Hagerty. They did me a solid. I’m real pleased and now feel I can live with some stupid school child running a red light if it happens. I was painfully short on my previous policy.
So it has finally seen the outdoors! Only took about 5 years since it’s last drive. Got a good wash...forgot how much I like this widebody. Have not driven it on the road but soon.
This was my original 84 Se as it sat in my tool and die shop in 2016.. when I moved south it had to go. Sadly I sold the roller and it came back to take 1st place to my 2nd place at DGRR 2017... never drove this one with the wide body kit. I did drive this in it’s original version from 1988-92 though. At least yours runs.. but I don’t know how you pace yourself. Yours looks so ready. Can’t wait to see that you finally drove it.. looks scrumptious..

The finished version of mine when it took 1st place DGRR 17.. kind of hurt my feelings to see it done.. but it wasn’t going to get finished in my possession..
That’s nice! Did it have the original
motor when it got 1st place? Back in 2013 (I think), my widebody received 3rd place so it did pretty well already at DGRR. Will hopefully make it back next year...in the mean time, still need to tune.

i sold it as a roller and took the engine w 86k on it to Savannah GA with me. I sold the engine to Mike, one of the OGTA guys. Long story. But it is the same roller that beat mine. It was a stock 13b in it which kinda soured it for me.
sounds familiar. I actually sold it to a person that sold it to him.
We didn’t talk at DGRR. He saw a post of mine of it in my shop and hit me with a comment that went something like “how’s it feel to lose to your own project car?! “ it’s been a couple years ago so the details escape me. Here it is at the show. That wide body kit was an AirBuni brand from the middle 90’s as I recall.
Yes,Derek is his name. I was looking at the car while another guy was talking to him about problems with his Nikki carb. He treated the guy like he was beneath him, insulting him right to his face til he just walked away.I talked to him briefly about the car,he acted like he needed to be somewhere else. Found him to be rude, arrogant. Paul, that smarmy comment fits him to a T.

well as you remember it was the “weekend from hell” for Cindy and myself. If I met him I don’t recall, the compression test guy kind of deverted all my attention. But it served its purpose. Nobody will ever touch my cars again. With all this talk going on here I’m thinking a white wide body is looking for a drive.. the Rotary gods have awakened this thread!!

Nice man! Glad to see you're still at it.
Hope to see her at DGRR this year.
Any chance you have a picture(s) of the front bumper and where/how you cut it to fit the front fenders/center piece? I'm installing the same kit and trying to see how others made it work.
