The issue with the 13B TB and the 20B UIM is the shapes of the two parts are not exactly the same. The 13B TB is square with a square gasket and the 20B UIM has a square top with a rounded bottom. In the rounded bottom, the 20B UIM has a moon shaped groove cut into it that allows air to leak out of the bottom of the 13B TB gasket. The bad solution to this was to put silicone sealant into the groove and then use a metal 13B gasket. This works temporarily until the silicone degrades as it did in my case.

The better solution is what I have now. Jotech cut a moon shaped rubber gasket to fit into the moon shaped groove and 'glued" it in with Toyota bond. They then made another rubber gasket to replace the metal 13B gasket and glued the new gasket on with Toyota bond. The result? No boost leak, even under much higher boost levels than the 20 lbs. I'll be running.

Can't say enough how impressed I am with the Jotech guys.
So what does Gotham Racing have to say about all this?

I agree Gordon. The experience has been phenomenal just like you would imagine it to be. They said they thought about adding rotaries to their business but didn't because of the rotary alternatives in the area. Rotary Performance is right down the street from them. The owner of Jotech is Kenny Tran, racer/builder. Here is a link to the shop:

They are moving early next year into their own free-standing building, which is three times the size of the current shop. It's going to be impressive.

I'm meeting George at 10 am this morning for the final tune. Will keep you posted.

Quickie Update: 577 WHP and 444 FT LBS of torque before we had to stop tuning due to a water injection system problem. The pump is fine but for whatever reason, the system barely puts out any water under throttle. George said it squirted about 60 feet before and now it's barely a whimper? Don't know just yet what is going on.

Game plan for tomorrow is to troubleshoot the water injection system and if that is not successful, then to tune the car to a low, safe level of boost. The waste gate spring is 14 lbs. so we'll tune to that and then get on the road, dealing with the water injection system back in Jacksonville. Problem with this is I won't have a final "final" tune and I'll have to figure out who/how to get the tune done in Jacksonville. Maybe I can take the car on one of my trips to Asheville and have Roger Mandeville tune it? We'll see what happens tomorrow and go from there.

I did snap some pics of a Nissan GTR that was at the shop. Beautiful car. Still don't have a camera cable so I'll post up pics and a video when I can.

Still some pretty decent numbers though. What turbo are you running again? I forget.

good luck getting mandeville to tune it. im local and he wants nothing to do with turbo cars. the nicest person you will ever meet and very willing to give advise/share knowledge, but no tuning. on the flip side it never hurts to ask, and if he does tune it for you i will bow down!! lol

did you check the check valve? also look for a hairpin leak, that is the common problem i've seen if the pump is turning on.
Good luck

It's a Precision Dynamics T76 dual ball bearing. Can't remember the internal specs at the moment. Too laggy for me though. Was told it is a quick spooler but it's clearly not.

The water injections kits i have dealt with have screens/ filter in the injection nozzle. I would check them and see if something got clogged in the line. Good luck.

You are correct on this sir. The filters were clogged. They're circles about 1/8 on an inch in width. Hard to imagine something like that could hold up going home. Ordered a new flow meter (with new filters) for install tomorrow AM. The flow meter was warped and it still worked but better be safe.

The plan is to install the new flow meter tomorrow morning and finally get the tune done.

I have a turbo flow issue to deal with once I get home. The current setup is laggy and boost is tough to control. "Rumor" has it the turbo flange doesn't exactly match the LIM and they overlap. I'll check this out once I get back home. Also, the wastegate appears to be too small for the car. It's 46mm and probably should be 60mm.

The final issue to deal with in the morning is to reseat the starter. I'm getting a grinding noise out of the starter as if it can't disengage quickly enough. It's brand new and was just installed on the brand new tranny rebuild so the thought is it's slightly out of alignment. We're going to take it off tomorrow and then reseat it. Hopefully this will correct the issue. Don't want to damage the new carbon triple disc clutch and flywheel.

More fun and excitement tomorrow gents!

Yes, a 46mm waste gate is probably too small for the amount of exhaust your flowing... particularly at your power levels. FWIW after trying many different waste gates on my race car I've found the HKS GT II series wastegate to be by far the most reliable and best performing of the bunch. I use a 50mm but my two rotor is putting out a lot less power than you... they have an available 60mm that would probably work really well for you.

glad you are getting things sorted out, but it's disturbing to say the least. I'm going to need a rebuild soon and now I'm not sure where to go.

I was very pleased to see 540rwhp, thats getting very nice imo.

Get the car home, and like that other shop showed, a fresh set of eyes may help you sort some things out.

Dave hi,

I am reading this thread since day one and all i can say is WOW.I could never be that calm as you are after all these "problems".All i can say is good luck,i really believe that this time the saga will end.One question though:If the fliters of the WI clogged so soon, what will happen when the car starts to make miles?Maybe you should pay more attention to that...

Taken care of already. I'm now running the proper mixture of water and methanol. They won't clog now.

Well, the car made 650 WHP and 475 ft.lbs. of torque at about 20 PSI before I shut it down today. Too too many things to sort out. The car is simply not ready for driving. Sounds wicked evil though.

Replaced the water injection filters in the flow sensor (actually replaced the entire flow sensor) and now the system does not work properly. The ecutout shutdown because its power cord was laying on the downpipe and it melted. Fuel is now an issue too - maybe the ecu or something else? The pump is working and we're getting pressure but who knows?

I'm going to get some sleep and then decide what to do tomorrow.

Wow David. I don't know what to say, I didn't expect those sorts of issues after being with Gotham for so long, very surprised.
