It is a 50mm Synapse unit. The Synapse wastegates work differently so a 50mm Synapse is capable of outflowing most 60mm units. Here is an article on the Synapse units:

http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/07...ate/index.html

Because the unit is so configurable, I am sure it is a matter of just hooking up the unit properly.

So after thinking about it overnight, I got up early and drove down to Kilo to "help" with figuring out the Synapse wastegate issue. Turns out I was more helpful than I normally am, which usually amounts to me circling around saying "is it done yet?". I researched the issue and set up a conference call with the Synapse guys and we figured it out. The Synapse unit indeed is hooked up a little different than others to a boost controller. Not hard but just different, including screwing in an M4 bolt into a hole on the top of the unit to "activate" the wastegate for an electronic boost controller.

Actually helped in hooking it all up and then set the baselines for the Greddy Profec B Spec II unit. Had to wait on the bastards for 2.5 hours before I finally got some very nice and quick support. Should be all set up now for Jesus as he is taking the car back to the dyno tomorrow to tune for 14 PSI and for 18 PSI. Should that go well, the car will be back with me on Thursday or Friday.

Some pics of the car:

I've had several items polished or powder coated since last posting pics. All in all, it's shaping up.

I was up in the Orlando area on Monday and Tuesday to look at Mark's 20b that he's selling. Saw your car out there, looks even better in person honestly! Did you get results of the dyno testing yet?

So are you going to buy it? It's the red one right? Nice car.

No dyno results yet this time. Spent all day yesterday getting the wastegate and boost controller configured for today's dyno sessions. Jesus is going over to do some tuning and to dial in the boost controller settings before I show up. Rumor has it it made over 525 WHP at 13.5 PSI between 10 and 10.5 AFR which is pretty rich

I'll go back tomorrow or first thing Friday to watch some runs and get some numbers. Or at least that's the plan which is dependent on everything being hooked up correctly. The Synapse wastegate has 4 ports coming off of it, two on the top and two on the bottom. Each is either a large surface or small surface port and each controls the unit differently. After speaking to Synapse, we "tee-d" the top two ports together and tied them into the Greddy boost controller. We then used the larger of the bottom ports ("C") to tie into controlling the turbo. In theory this is the safest setup which allows the wastegate to quickly open.

If we properly hooked up the Synapse unit then Jesus will need to fine tune the Greddy Profec B Spec II boost controller. I hate these things don't allow you to enter desired PSI levels but they make you put in % levels that equate to PSI. I currently have the Greddy set to 5% for low and 10% for high, both of which I think are way too low for 14 and 18 PSI levels. But better to be safe than sorry. I then set warnings and bleed off levels to 16 PSI on low and 19 PSI on high which ironically, you can enter in PSI. If the car overboosts, then it will immediately bleed off at 16 and 19 PSI.

So Jesus will need to fine tune all of the above to get it right.

No doubt, it poured yesterday afternoon. I had the back end of the car sticking out into the rain just in case the flame shooter erupted Seriously though, Jesus took car of this issue and there is no evidence of any soot or flames on the back end. Compare to this pic from DGGR a few months ago:

Note in the above you can't even see the backup lights or the carbon fiber exhaust guard. That's because it was singed from the flames out of the exhaust.

Sounds like it should be a monster then; a reliable 525 at 13.5 psi is somewhere I'd like to be at. You're running a T-78 in there right?

And yes, his 20b is the red one at Kilo. He picked it up Tuesday, but has to bring it back in for new transmission. I will be buying it actually Looking forward to it, and I'll probably be driving up to Kilo for any work I need done. Jesus seems like a stand up guy.

Yes, a T78 dual BB. For a 20B, it''s a tad bit on the small side, but it is capable of making up to around 800 so it is plenty good for me.

I think your car (potential purchase) has twin stock turbos right? That will be fun to drive but don't expect more than around 400WHP unless you go single. That was the top I could do with the twins. It did make about the same in torque though so it was quite a fun ride.

Jesus is a great guy and does fantastic work at reasonable prices. I would most certainly recommend him to you. You can't go wrong with him and we could meet up periodically for a 20B get together. There are a few other guys in Orlando that are also 20B owners. Maybe go out and terrorize a few Mustangs

Funny, you are correct. It's the least of my issues now though as I anxiously await to hear from Jesus about how the tuning went today and if the car held 14 and 18 PSI.

What HP range are you trying achieve? For me personally 550-600 would be ideal, although I could settle for a little less.

And yes, it has stock twins at 10psi at the moment. It pulls real hard, and drives nice. I will probably stick with them for a bit, although I know I will want more power like always. He's giving me a brand new GT42R if I decide to go single turbo. Should be able to hit 500's with that.

Meeting up would be great, I'll be up there probably by the end of the month to come pick up the car. If your car is done we should meet up! We could terrorize most of the cars that I was seeing up there How are the cops up there anyways?

PS: Sorry for derailing the thread, should probably take it to PM's haha

For WHP, 525ish at 14 PSI and anything above 600 at 18 PSI. Both should be easy to reach although in 95+ degrees and high humidity, it might be interesting. With a GT42R, you can make up to 750 or so WHP.

As I am not from Orlando, I don't know what it is like with cops, but on my way home yesterday, a bunch of state troopers were out giving tickets.

I know, but the Mustang guys are everywhere in Orlando and Jax so it would be fun. The Ferrari and Lambo guys are old and usually wouldn't race. Would be interesting to see their expression though as we blow on by

As an update, the car didn't get dyno'd last night as I understand it pounded down rain and Orlando had tornado warnings. Jesus said he was on his way to the dyno shop in my car when the rain came down and all hell broke loose. He said he bypassed the dyno shop and limped the car to his house at 15 MPH as he couldn't see in front of him at all. Apparently his wife wasn't too happy he was driving an FD in all that rain.

So we will regroup today and hopefully it (the tuning and dyno) will happen.

To be determined. Jesus is on his way now over to Central Florida Turbos for any of you that live in the Orlando area. The Deliruim Motorsports guys haven't gotten back with him today so Jesus is going to plan "b" and will use the dyno at Central Florida Turbos. They will also make sure the boost controller is set correctly.

More to come...

I will be buying it within the next week or so. I will be out of town till the 24th, and when I get back I will be transferring over the money and what not. After that I just need to come pick up the car.

That looks pretty good then. It's the heat down here that makes me second think running so much boost, but I will mess around with the car once I get Mark's back down here. Yours should be a blast to drive once everything is done. Any ETA on when the car will be finished?

I've heard some nightmares about CFT but as long as jesus is the one tunning the car and he is just there for their dyno then no worries. let me know when you heading down to pick it up i would love to check it out and maybe go for a spin.

warning signs, have you driven the car? i saw it at jesus and the car looks very nice, except for the way the swap was done. the engine sits like 3-4 inches back and it looks kinda weird.. other than that the car looks very clean.
