It's from Pettit Racing and is very high quality. Excellent fitment right out of the box.

As an aside, I have some misc. parts for sale:

Turbosmart wastegate, Spa fuel gauge, etc.

So all of the powder coated/cerama coated parts are back and Jesus says they look great. Most were coated in black to continue the look of the stealth thing I have going on. The turbo though was coated in......

blue

So Jesus is sending it back to be coated in black. It's the intake side so it should be good to go as the material holds up to 1600 degrees in temps. Having my strut bar polished and the ends coated in black.

Maybe done with it all and tuned next week? We'll see. When it is ready, I'll be back on the dyno to crank up the boost a bit to around 18 PSI.

Still having mental nightmares on the blue turbo! Black is the way to go - don't know if I have seen the intake side done in black so it should be interesting and unique - just not blue!

Get your dad on the job Dying to get the car back and have a little fun driving.

It should be done next week. I saw it today and it looks very nice. We're prepping for some upcoming races at New Jersey.

Its called Summer Slam at Raceway Park in Englishtown. Should be a good race! Then Pan-American Nat's at Atco a few weeks after. Lot of racing this summer. I got the 99 spec. bumper so now I can use that plate you gave me as soon as I put it on!

I'll have to look this weekend at the results to see how you do. Are your going up with other "Kilo" cars or is it just you and your dad?

You'll love the 99 spec bumper and I want to see pics of it!

Its going to be more of a North vs. South thing because a lot of cars from Florida are going to be there. We're bringing 3 cars. Here is a pic of it sitting in my room:

Hey David,

A great thread to read--like a roller coaster, actually. Hope you're finding ways to enjoy your very unique car.

I had a few quick questions:

1) Is the strut tower brace a custom piece?
2) The rear fenders are Pettit from the original conversion, yes? Have you ever thought about replacing them or molding them into the rear panel?
3) How is the Pettit nose holding up to daily driving?

Cheers,

-ch

A few answers!

1) Yes, the strut bar is a custom Pettit piece. They would probably make one for you if you called them. I'm having mine polished and the end pieces powder coated black.
2) Yes, the rear fenders are from the original conversion. My plan back then was to have them molded in or replaced with metal ones welded on (was afraid of the molded fiberglass cracking over time) but I have grown to like them so much I don't think I am going to do this. They're held on with really nice stainless hex bolts and look pretty nice IMO. My inspiration for doing the flares was a Pettit car that had them molded in so I know that looks nice also but I'm kind of liking the screwed on look. The current plus is if the flares have an issue, they can be easily removed and repaired/repainted.

A shot of the bolts:

Note the flares even have the matching rock guard paint on the bottom of them.

3) Great. The Pettit nose is very high quality and has held up nicely for over 4 years. The fitment is very good, almost OEM-like. I did put the nose through my garage wall a few years back so that required a fix - short and embarrassing story. For those looking for a plateless 99 spec bumper, I highly recommend this piece.

Kilo Update

Back from Kilo in Orlando and the day was hot, hot, hot! Literally, it was so hot I could have melted into the asphalt. Throw in a lot of humidity and it was a scorcher.

The car is pretty hot too if I don't say so myself. The new powder coated pieces look great and give the engine bay a nice subtle blingy show car kind of look. I call it the Rich/Goodfella effect Too bad stupid me forgot to take any pics of the engine bay. Sorry.

I did take a few shots of the new steering wheel though - another Rich idea. It's not quite as easy as others have made it out to be but not too too bad. The biggest struggle we had was fitting the FD connectors inside of the Miata wheel. Had to do some trimming of the connector holders (the parts not used by the Miata, but it turned out well I think. The airbag didn't explode, the horn works and the cruise control does also so I am happy.

Before:

After:

Jesus has a few items to button up before I take the car back next Saturday. The plan is for me to drive down then and go to the dyno with him to check out numbers at low boost 12ish PSI and high boost 18 PSI. Should be fun!

Makes you wonder how the FD got such an ugly steering wheel in the first place.

Looking good.

My 17 year old nephew exclaimed the FD steering wheel looked like the face of a digibot. Didn't know what this meant until I saw Transformers with him
