Jayscoobs Budget Build Thread

I finally decided to make a little build thread about how far I came in the car enthusiast world. Now keep in mind I only have done simple bolt on parts to my WRX and RX8 that was prior to this car. RX8 actually made me fall in love with rotaries and I missed boost from the WRX so the FD is best of both worlds. But the FD made me learn to wrench and get the great satisfaction of finishing something and say you built it. I built this with a very low budget so this isnt a all out build, It will be eventually.

Car History:

I was looking for a FD shell because I figure I can build one far cheaper than the 16k that people were asking for stock FDs. I was about bargaining lol. I found this 93 VR FD for sale. 97k miles for 4k, still had A/C and interior so I had to jump on it.

Previous owner had plans for a V8 which is why it became a rolling shell. In my eyes I wouldnt give a rotary car a V8. I bought a longblock from Japan2LA, took a very long time to show up here. We all know how bad that guy is. Here it is

First things first, blow up the vacuum diagram and replace all the hoses with silicone as well as the JDM harness with a USDM harness

I put it all back together and got the car running. But I did a rookie mistake and didnt notice the fans werent coming on until its too late. But its okay, 20 year old coolant seals in there, engine should be refreshed. Took it all apart again. Had the help of JBronson on this motor build. Good thing we did take it apart. Both stationary bearings were shot.

I got a lot of parts for cheap. total build up until this point is 8k. Break In period almost over, time to have some fun. Completely stock with the exception of these.

Full silicone vacuum hoses
OMP block off (The OMP is bolted out of sight until I get a Power FC just so she doesnt go limp)
AEM water and boost gauges in the A pillar
Downpipe
FC Thermoswitch
Aluminum upgraded radiator
Trust Exhaust

Plans is to finish off how I want the engine. Plan on keeping the twins and just doing intercooler and Intakes. Power FC. And Hi Flow Cat or Resonated Mid. Then to start overhauling suspension and exterior.

Haha yeah the build is pretty much done.

I actually ended up selling the Veilside fortune kit because I realized having that much horsepower and a full body kit was not a good combo. I want to be able to actually drive it around without worrying which side of the car I was going to crack next.

Here's a kinda old pic of my car in its current set up:

Made 670 hp to wheel at 10 psi. =P

Where are you located again? Maybe we could meet up one of these days. I'd like to see in person what you turned my old roller into.

Went to EuroSunday. These people got some serious money. That Ferrari is chick owned, and apparently she has 3 Ferrari's and actually tracks them. That particular model is a a rare one, apparently only 500 made.

Installed, I guess my neighborhood didnt know I have a FD. It never stays outside of the garage. Had so many people slowing down and staring and thumbs up. I guess it could also be that I was doing the idle learning process on the street. Heres my commander holder for now until I pick up the Banzai mount.

Some new parts - Greddy Airinx intakes, and RE Amemiya AD7 Wheels. Also got Tein S-Techs, Rear Pillowballs and some rear toe bushings. Been busy so working on the car quite slowly.

Yeah he's the best. I thought my paint couldn't be saved. He made it possible. 4 stages, wash, buff, clay bar and wax.
