Picked up a really sexy exhaust. Full Ti exhaust by greddy. It's unbelievable how light this thing is. It ain't brand new but it's nice. Got major plans on the car now.

Haha so I know this is named budget build thread but I already lost track of my budget. Im sure its around 11,000. Heres some pics of what I got done tonight.

Some pillowball bushings and SuperPro.

So far only these two out. Only got to work on it for a hour. Would have had the lower control arm out but the camber bolt is giving me trouble, soaking it in PB Blaster overnight. 20 years of grime on those arms with 98,000 miles.

nice that your car is coming along! My FD still at my friend's shop sitting. I have some idling issue I need to figure out. And now I am back into the dealership life, making things even harder!

do yourself a favor and media blast those suspension parts while you have them off. it's so nice putting all "like new" super clean suspension parts back on the car

How she sits after the suspension mods.

Jayscoobs Budget Build Thread-image-1116507275.jpg

Next idea is to further mod exterior or since I'm going to LA in October maybe bring her down for a tune from Nelson S. but not sure what setup I want to do for this tune yet. No matter what my turbos probably have to come off for waste gate porting. I have no idea why I didn't do it when I was rebuilding. But if they coming off matterswell do non sequential, not sure yet.

Jayscoobs Budget Build Thread-2013-11-14-21.55.43.jpg

I really need to learn to take more pics instead of just powering through working on the car. Got it stripped down. I sent my injectors to RC engineering for modification. 1300cc secondaries and primaries were just cleaned.

Installed fuel pump and got a lot of it put back together. Found out my water pump makes noise when turning so I ended up ordering a new one from Ray.

Got the duct in, that was quite the tight fit with my aluminum radiator. Also checked clearance for intercooler, looks like I cant fit a slim battery, so relocate time, kind of didnt want to lose my bin but oh well.

Lastly I decided to actually stay with twins, mainly living in Cali made me have to stay for ease of passing smog. But they are going to be in non sequential form. Already cut out all the flappers and ported the wastegate. The plan is to get BNRs and either have them NS or Seq, hopefully I can decide when I get the funds for the BNRs.

Jayscoobs Budget Build Thread-2013-11-18-21.04.33.jpg

Heres a nice inspiration pic I found that helped me the right decision for twins.

Just a heads up. There is absolutely no benefit to running BNR's in non-sequential mode vs a properly sized single turbo.

If you go BNR do it in sequential. Otherwise just go single.

Yeah my original plan was single, but living in Cali I need it to pass visual and a big single there would make it near impossible. I know a single would be better in every way but I figured if I want the power of a single, BNR would be the only way to go in Cali.

Running the stock twins in NS to see how the power is, if I dont like it the BNRs will be sequential. Been looking at the graphs comparison too, Seq would be nice but I dont like the dip and how it loses power in the upper RPM range.

I wanted to add something. Water pump isn't new. Just found out when I received it. You send in your core for, 25 bucks back. So it's actually around 75.

Wrapped my downpipe. I estimated slightly wrong on how big of a wrap I needed. Oh well, I at least wanted to do the main area.

Heres a example why to buy good quality parts and not cheap out. I got a cheap downpipe when I first built the car, nothing lined up, It was very hard to install, Took me a day of cursing, blood and manly tears, this new downpipe took 10 mins to install, most painless install I done on this car haha. The downpipe in question was squished so I think it was mainly for RHD cars. I picked up this one which looked like a night and day difference on clearance to the bottom left stud since we all know that one is the hardest to get on.

So this is a bad build thread because I never update. I need to start updating more. Big updates on the car, here is what has been done since I last updated.

Battery relocated to the bins, this was very time consuming and was thinking if it was even worth it. I could have easily went front mount or a small or medium SMIC and retained the battery in the engine bay. I kind of like it though only because I would like to use the circuit breaker as a extra aid against theft.

Got my AFR gauge hooked up as well as my boost gauge. I may have to address the boost because their may be a kink in the line or a leak. Boost shows around 10 inHG but my Power FC shows 400-450 mmHG.

It feels great to hear the car turn over after doing everything. 3 months with it down is a killer. Got my Non resonated midpipe in there, geez its loud even though I have one of the quietest catbacks out there. I have the Apexi Noir.

Catch can installed, Boost valve switched to a MAC valve. Got some intercooler piping in there. Car is almost there and almost ready to start tuning. Shes either going to be tuned by me and some friends on the forum or im just going to take her down to LA to Nelson, we'll see.

Also sucks to forget to buy things on this car. I forgot to get a Fast reacting Air temp sensor, so I have a triumph sensor and adapter harness coming, so the UIM comes off once again.

So I got the car completely ready to run and heard great things about GarageLife so I decided to tow my car down to him for tuning. Great guy btw. Heres my car on the way to LA. Yeah I want to invest in my own trailer. The trip took a brutal 10 hours instead of the usual 5. 55 MPH towing it and my truck transmission was overheating so I had to stop a lot.

When I got down there I guess since my car was running so rich my AFR wideband decided to get stuck at 14.5 AFR, assuming sensor is fouled or something. So we used the tuners Wideband. Everything went really good, Car put down 310 whp at 11 psi. I do have a problem with the MAC valve not holding boost to redline so that has to get fixed. Boost drops to 7 psi after 6.5k rpm. Car on the dyno. DK tuned it really good! If I get a Adaptronic im having him tune it too.

Some parting favors from DK before I left and since I was in LA I decided to pick up some Mazdaspeed Coilovers while im down there.

Mazdaspeed coilovers installed.

Then finally my completely engine bay for now. Im really indecisive and most likely my setup is going to change, but first got to fix a few things. My trans is kind of on its way out(grinds on redline, 1st to 2nd synchro is going out). While doing trans matterswell do clutch too. Maybe more driveline and suspension parts. New wheels, and brake upgrades. Also got to change my muffler hangers, im using some hangers from autozone and they holding my catback too high, its burning my bumper. Really pleased with the car and how it turned out, engine feels great.
